Is anyone still using it?  

In the past I have used it to source a few cars but over the last few months everyone I have called seems to have a story.

As for selling, we used to sell a lot of cars off there but anything I put on these days gets very little interest apart from the normal 2 e-mails (what will buy it? and the other is generally an offer of 15% off trade).

the whole area has changed, every single dealer I know says the same with the trade platforms , if selling not getting good prices or other dealers bidding silly to try and pinch stock , trying to source cars off the platforms no one ever calls/emails with anything .. I think it's just sign of the times and the difference in dealers on these platforms ! ( I was one of the 1st on ATM ..But sadly had to throw the towel in after AT took them over as I feel they destroyed THE BEST Trading platform)

Dealer Trade are nice people. Think they’re ex-Autotrademail. I’ve never found anything that’s a bit of me though. There’s a Honda Jazz on there at the mo for example but I’m always suspicious as to why they’re trading it. Was the same with Autotrademail. I never got on with it myself but probably just me. 

Sytner a waste of time like Auction4cars and mostly DA also.  Too many on it. 

It’s the same with main dealers that we all used to buy out of. Now they have a go at them themselves (before putting on DA etc).  Just another way your margins/business is stolen/squeezed over the years including. Not like the good old days (where’s TV? He’ll agree with me :o)

Yup.I remember a few from when I was a kid: ‘VAT killed the game.’ ‘Fuel injection, Front wheel drive, computerised MOT’s.... punters at auctions. Places not taking cash or rewriting invoices. Women in the motortrade

Autotrademail is a good thing. I'm still using it. ukwritings.com review is using it for a long time. But results are worth it. Hope it helps

I used to use this platform, but like another user said, when A Trader bought it and doubled the monthly fee i came off immediately !!!

Just had an invoice of £99 plus vat from Dealer auction, and ive decided not to renew that either, cars are NOT as described , and the prices are mental at times.

I bought and sold lots on autotrade mail pre autotrader take over. 
 

There’s no independant dealer site that’s open to businesses like mine for buying and selling. Good idea for someone?????

Thinking about it, not that comes to mind really, some would whinge about VAT, others about new fangled MOT's, or drink driving laws, but those really were old boys. Maybe I was on the fringe too much back then. 

Only watched an episode of Minder yesterday where, Max Wall comes out of jail and Arthur tells him what he has missed "something called VAT, but don't no need to worry about that".....would of been 8%, they were the days?

That said with the caveat that car dealers can lean towards half full types, not enough cars, too many cars etc

That also said, things were a LOT more relaxed and casual back then, and dare I say it more fun. Trade to trade on the whole was more upfront, bar the usual wrong ern you'd give a swerve, but one important thing that a few forget.

In general, I think customers knew a LOT more about the product we were selling, yes really, honestly. They would often change their own oil 'n filter, a bulb, service cars plugs/points/belts/brake linings etc, some would even pull heads.

If you are of an age remember of all those car parts shops that were on every estate.

........ and heaven forefend, and this is true as I sit here, some would even wash the car on a Sunday, without paying a criminent to do it, fag in hand to spend more time on their Iphone posting pictures of their dogs latest turd.

....do you know why the AA response and fix times are what they are... because they change so many wheels. 

 

great post, interesting point about trade to trade being upfront, think it was due to having to mostly deal and trade locally, everyone knew each other and socialised together with many trade deals done in the pub, these days you can trade a car to the other end of the country without even talking to the buyer, and strange how these days a lot of local retailers and traders don't know or talk to each other.

Face book warrior sells anything we have really that we don't want .

Buying is hard as you know , depends what you sell too . Auctions sell at retail prices plus fees . main dealers are who you know not what you know . Any other selling site is a joke , We buy any car gives public prices that's pretty high so PX is challenging then that little twat jumping about saying sell here and get a discount is trying my patience  . Privates are liars plus traveling round the UK is unfeasible looking at junk on peoples drives .

I get what you are saying . I was surprised to see Autotrademail not functioning after it was such a powerful portal back in the day .

new idea back in that day , worked pretty well , but everyone got on a band wagon ride since and ruined it all , split stock everywhere , dodgy selling of privates cars , hitting bids up , not being honest on descriptions , by the time they all charged  a monthly fee to login looking for cars that frankly weren't there is was doomed . 

Auto trader ruined the Trade Mail when they got greedy ,
