Anyone actually bother with the UKCGR sections?

Always constantly running over CAP, not just running, sprinting!  It's crazy insane.  What are BCA doing with all these cars?

Been on Manheim for the past week as BCA got too annoying although some Vendors were not too bad but I couldn't get any small cars (Fiesta, Polo, Jazz).  Managed to pick up a few from Manheim this week, no Jazz's though all under CAP average.  Gob smacked.  PLUS - Delivery was cheaper!!!

Just wondered if anyone else has given up on BCA UKCGR sections?

I don't buy many from that section but whenever I have, it's always had issues even with a clean report. I guess that's why they end up at WBAC

Indeed. I just see a pile of metal that joe public knew was a lemon so they offed it for whatever they could get. 

I know they aren’t all like that but I find if I treat them all the same i’m not disappointed! 

Someone else can pay silly money for joe public’s lemons.

Might be ok for the odd 'banger', but i wouldn't want to spend any real money on someones old turd. There are two buyers for this wbac stuff, private buyers who don't know any better and traders who think they'll buy a car with a fault that's easily fixed?

I've heard there are diamonds in the rough but i've never found one.

I'm going to go against the grain here, and say I've had some of my best / most profitable cars from this section! 

I avoid anything 'sheddy' and anything specialist / sought after, as there is usually a reason why it's there!!

But I've genuinely had some gems, the sort of stuff that the last owner didn't want the hassle / strange people turning up on their door step, and I'm convinced I've had the odd where the last owner has deceased, and the family have just got rid through WBAC. 

Agree there are a lot of lemons, but most of them should be easy to spot with a bit of experience / gut feeling....

Too true. I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule but to my mind the sort of person offloading their vehicle to one of these car buying operations is doing it for one of two reasons.

The first is the car’s knackered.

The second is they are desperate for money. The trouble with this sort of seller is they certainly won’t of spent anything on maintenance and seem run them into the ground.

At the block the main dealer p/xs are bad enough, I like the easy life so simply treat these ‘car buying vendors’ the same as the small trader entries and walk on by.

My 'gut feeling' is that all that crap is there because everyone else has tried to fix it and failed.

Personally I treat them the same as any other non fleet/finance car.

One thing is for sure, it's one hell of a business model.

I just find it odd, that since November the prices have gone through the roof but nothing seems to be selling.

They're not even discreet in running the cars now, just blatantly obvious...  Starts at 7 then 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 - 7,800 within 1 second and it's at cap clean.  I do find it quite amusing that someone online always gets suckered into the bid though.  WHY bid?  I find it strange dealers want to pay so much and earn so little.  It's tough enough when you get them at a decent trade value let alone paying over the top.

Mind you HROWEN at Blackbushe had some decent reserve prices yesterday.

Well guys,I beg to differ.......I have bought about 5 recently,paid mental money but they have gone.Only one issue,a service history had been doctored ( 3 recent stamps from a franchised dealer which cased trading 20 years ago !)We had been charged £27 for an Assured Inspection Report and the service history was  material to the description.The mileage was right but we established through social media and streetview that the one lady owner with a mint semi,touring caravan,immaculate garden and painted front step had a motor trade related partner ! The mind boggles.Anyway after the usual BCA company policy run around,they have just agreed to settle our claim............So yes,there are some gems in there,but I think you have to be present at the sale,I would not buy them online.....too risky!

I went to the block Weds, got a free pen, some usual bullshit from the manager and a greasy breakfast. Home by 11am and no broken cars costing silly money to worry about. It's not often I leave early but when hunting painty junk is making £500 above book and the world and his wife have decided on a day out it's best not to get wrapped up in it

We must be lucky here, apart from the odd silly month UKCGR stuff usually goes way under cap especially in “trade”. The “select” section tends to come with its own tax though as even rough cars in that section seam to fetch a premium. A fair bit of our stock comes from there but as said it is a gamble and I would never pay over the odds for the risk.

I will admit though it’s very rare we get one that doesn’t have some kind of fault, some minor, some more serious but rare we get a perfect one.

In  the early days I mainly bought out of select and got some real gems when everyone was too worried to buy in this section. Now its like a bees nest and they all go mad for them. A lot of scrappy cars in select recently. (Blackbushe) I buy out of premium these days and some cars are behind cap clean and its not too busy. I've bought more shit in main dealer sections to be honest!

Interestingly, I've just done a deal with a really nice, genuine, affluent couple. Whilst I was typing up the invoice, they had a conversation between them about their current car, naturally my ears pricked up. But as it wasn't something I would stock, I let them continue...

The Husband suggested selling it privately, but immediately the wife said, "Oh no, I don't want to be going on test drives with people, we'll just sell it to WBAC, Much easier." Now I don't think the car was a complete lemon, (they were changing to a different type of vehicle for genuine reasons), and it was a low mileage 14 plate. So, I know not everyone has honest intentions with WBAC and I agree it's a convenient lemon drop off point, but some people do genuinely sell their car that way for an easy life.......

Same here.  Done well with them, but I've actually gone up to the block to attempt to see it start up, go through/look at the dash etc...

However, I disposed of my wife's TT Roadster (low mileage 3.2 DSG auto) through WBAC a couple of years ago, as I just couldn't face retailing the german junk.

BTW-Does anyone else who uses Manheim get worried about bidding on a car where the say 'Unidentified Strong Odour?  This bothers me, even if the Sure Check is Silver etc.  I'm too suspicious it's code for 'don't buy me because..'

In the 6 months to Oct 17 BCA sold 107,000 WBAC vehicles,up 20% on the previous 6 months.As most of these would be bought by the trade,I think this underlines the fact that they must be a good source of stock for many dealers........Can you imagine how many of these WBAC have’ nicked’,I imagine ,it must be a large proportion.

Well to put it into perspective I bought a 58 308 1.4 out of UKCGR last year. Won it for around £700 plus fee’s. Turned out it had an immobiliser fault that would of cost more to repair than it was worth. Just out of interest I got an online quote off WBAC to see if it worth offloading back to them. 

They offered me £410+ £50 admin fee and that was before even seeing the car which they will always try and knock down more on inspection.

So if that’s what they gave the original owner for it BCA made around £500 on just that one car and that was on a cheap day. Cap was around £1500 on it if I remember correctly.
