Some of these posts really make you question yourself on times, i remember a newbie running around the block telling everyone about this amazing new painter on the scene just started up and was cheap as chips as he wanted to grow his business....you guessed it by the end of the month the painter had so much work he put his prices up.

Well he is a happy chap

Dont think you will get much luck with auctions dealers already paying way over the odds for this kind of stock who are well established and can offer a perceived added value for the stock and therefore charge more than you will be able to.
As epv suggested i would be looking to buy private and build from there.

Wrong shape ball for me, if you have never been to a six nations or World Cup rugby match it’s well worth a try amazing crowd.

As for pensions, no one in my family has ever had one as they’ve all either been self employed or ran companies. So a kind of cant afford to loose mentality
I think most people view it as one of the easiest ways to be self employed.
In truth hand on heart it would be easier to become a doctor, there is nothing easy about the second hand car industry the customers dont like you the suppliers dont like you the revenue dont like the advertising companies 100% dont like you..hell somedays i dont even like myself.

Still amazes me how people view our industry as rock and roll and something to aim for.

This may sound a very odd thing to say but being very passionate about cars (I think you meant cars, but) isn't a great skill to bring to the table. Even worse if you like 'flashy' ones as my mum would say.
.....this job will soon turn you off that, there isn't much of thrill in owning and driving yet another Fiesta, Corsa, Focus etc, they don't make curtains twitch either. You are then left in a worse situation than before.
Not liking cars is far better, you can be detached from the product as they are there simply, to make money, end of.
Being good at valeting, sparks, on the tools, paint, sales are far better skill sets to offee.
See if you can work on a site to get a measure of how this job really works, be a goffer for nothing if need be, best education you can get, ohh and download the "so you wanna be a car dealer" primer.
This.
second vote for this option, really go to town and be the best in town you could then write your own bank statements.

its the sign of the times sadly its the way a lot of people communicate, we have a pay as you go sim phone which we send such items out so we dont have to give our personal phone number out.
Whatsapp is massive cant see it going away anytime soon, to be fair we use it a lot in work and works really well for group messages.

Are you not turning up at your potential customers door step ? who needs to advertise drop them a business card get your trade plates and insurance sorted and away you go, next time the garage wants something collected they ring you direct instead of paying a commission for an agency to do it.
is it really that simple or am i missing something

If you have to use them i would wait until they join forces with there new owners ebay that way i suspect they will roll all three under one bill and it will cost your pennies to use them.

I wouldn't be without it
With my stock profile I have quite a few elderly customers who can not/wiil not do bank transfer
Preference is £200 deposit on card and bank transfer before/on collection
Don't bank it spend it. I use any cash taken to pay for tyres and other expenses.
Although it can take a while to get rid of sometimes!
That would never work for us plus its always the first port of call during a HMRC inspection, over the years i have just found it easier to avoid the stuff.
As in all things in life what works for you doesnt for others.

“Cash” is a dirty word nowadays & is to be avoided at all costs. Apparently.
Would say dirty but i avoid it at all costs, due to the banking charges incurred when paying it in.

MOT in advance or not
in General Dealer Chat
Posted
Always in advance for me takes the pressure of trying to find parts if needed, plus as you mention the customer likes to see a good clean mot, less rushing around and sods law when you need something doing the mechanic is busy or any other million reasons not leave it until last minute.
I dont buy into all this protect yourself from the nasty customer do your job right and your ok, yes you will always come across that one or in james case six nut jobs but no matter what bit of paper you have they will still be nut jobs in part most punters are ok.
