  1. As above stats mean almost zero, one thing you mentioned that i did pick up on.

" This is just going to be a side business for me. Mainly because I enjoy working on cars and cleaning them up etc.

Once you start dealing with customers and suppliers trying to shaft you from all angles that will soon fade very quickly.

Also maybe look up some posts from Mrv and Lucas and see the trouble they had starting out, good examples of just how hard this game really is.

  2. I had an odd phone call from CG today, lady said hi your on the free package yep i know, well you wont get any leads that way the system is designed not to send you leads in your area so your better off paying us £280 i said well they way you have tried to sell it to me you can take a running jump.

  3. Also dont forget whilst opening an account with the auction houses thats easy you will then have to buy some cars at silly buyers rate before they move you up, granted these days they do move you a lot quicker than they used to mainly to ensure they keep your business but the first 5-10 cars will be painfully expensive, and thats at each auction house.

Also factor in delivery / collection costs default storage costs if your unable to collect within 3 days bca are brutal with this to newbies.

Like most things in the motor trade it changes week on week our nearest bca / manhiem is bristol / birmingham but we spend more money at blackbush as they have more of the stock we sell so we have to pay delivery, so dont think just because there is an auction house an hour away its where your going to buy it doesnt work out like that.

some cracking advise from above print it off read it inside out over and over again.

  4. That is a very good way to look at your figures and a good result a few percent here or there makes a huge difference.

We do a similar thing month on month so the last day of each month we run a basic balance sheet, cash in hand stock cars value, aged debtors creditors that kind of thing when you add all those into a excel graph it makes for a good insight as where you are.

Sorry. Where did I say I don’t pay taxes. I pay tax on my job and pay tax on the cars I sell. I keep records for everything I do  I’m not ducking anything.

I don’t have overheads like premises, staff, advertising but I do pay my dues

I don’t buy at auction. The £1000 was the total amount paid from a dealer as a trade in he took. I didn’t have to put a spanner on it. It was sold with 6 months MOT. I’m not VAT registered so what I pay to HMRC is £160. This is a part time role I do so I’m happy

wowsers keep your knickers on, i never said or implied you didnt pay taxes, and i note from your below post your not vat registered so i stand by my comment lucky you.

These kind of posts are what keeps me in the locked forums these days.

I bought 09 Fiesta 1.4diesel 129k but great condition last week. Spent 2 hours cleaning and polishing it. Advertised it at 12pm. Sold it at 2pm. Bought @ 1000 sold @ 1800 so I’m happy with that. I’ve limited space so like to move them quick.

Have a few at near retail price (Kuga, C Max, C Class  Merc and cant shift them. I’ve dropped price 3 times and it then looks desperate.

Lucky you being able to make a profit and keeping a profit, not having to share it with the revenue like the rest of us poor sods.

  7. I would want to see it first, see a local dealer to me get handed a 30k stocking loan the fool went straight out changed his stock portfolio run out of money trying to prep them bought cars he didn’t understand and lost the lot with 3 months, that stock was a pile of junk overpriced serious faults ect but it all got sold on.
