  1. I call it "value for money".
  2. I thought it might get me the sale . Bad times when not even that works! @Lazz ordinarily I take it in my stride, but I am on borrowed money and borrowed time. Payments are bouncing, and I owe money (many Ks) to family, and a few hundred pounds to a mechanic. The other half of me wants to put prices back up, and pray someone serious turns up. With the BMW, they pretty much opened with "we want to bring a mechanic to inspect it", and then asked for a test drive. I was reluctant considering they're just going to get the car dirty, risk my insurance, only to wait for them to come back God knows when for another look. Think that much have rubbed them up the wrong way to begin with. Still, let them drive it, and they were still unsure. Anyway, hoping for a better day tomorrow, it's Just a matter of time. Seriously thank God for this forum though. I'd be crying into some hard alcohol right now.
  3. I need to take sales lessons. It started raining badly as we were chatting, I asked him come inside but he had to go to his sister's. Still waiting on the call. I tend to let customers do their own thing. If they want the car they'll buy it. Seeing how difficult things are though, I have to employ some persuasion tactics.
  4. Rookie mistake. Unacceptable on my part. I'll know for the next viewing, which as it stands, has cancelled. Another bloke on the C Class loved the car and the price, real nice guy but "Will let you know within the hour". I can't take much more of this.
  5. This. I'll keep my mouth shut for the next one.
  6. That's a beautiful story. Love it, what a lying scumbag. (The customer, not you!) AD I thought you'd taken to offering a warranty now? Or do you not warrant certain cars? (Which would make complete sense in the example you gave)
  7. Jesus...haha thanks for the mental image!
  8. You can't win. Customer 1: "Has it had the chain done?" - No, it only needs doing if found to be slack or there's a problem. Customer 2: "Has the car been serviced?" "Yes by a BMW specialist and has also had the chain done." Customer 2 gets scared and wants their mechanic friend to come check the car. Let alone the £750 invoice from the specialist, that doesn't count for anything. Mission impossible.
  9. How old was she? I'm surprised she came by herself. It swings either way, they're either clueless and just want gadgets (and pray that you have them or they walk), or they're overcautious and won't listen to sense.
  10. Always done this with no problems, taxing a car off the green slip. However if your insurance requires that personal use of cars means that cars have to be in your name, then if something happens, you might not be covered.
  11. We were with Staveley Head for a few years, they were always the cheapest. Think are a good broker too. Unfortunately though from what brokers are saying, premiums have gone up the past couple of years. At least that's what they're telling us!
  12. Sounds like a pain to be honest. But I know there are traders who do this and do well. We've only ever sourced cars for friends. They've never been cars we'd ordinarily sell, so they know they can't let us down. David's approach sounds good though.
  13. I'm glad to hear it. And yeah as long as stock is moving, everything else is easier to deal with. You have a good memory! To be fair it was only the one possible scammer. The Golf turned out ok but we're having an issue with the reg and need to wait for a V5. Though I did have a dream last night that at such low mileage, the car had sustained damage from not being driven much haha. The C Class...waiting on a viewing today. Irish guy and they're easy customers, so I'm saying my prayers that it's a done deal. Need a sale.
  14. Hey Casper, they're alright. Up/down, and a lot to sort out still. How about you?
  15. Mark, as it happens he's disappeared. But that's good to know though, thanks.
  16. Ok thanks everyone. Will only accept if it's a cash deal. Or only if I double and triple check what bank it is. And certainly no cash back. Thank you
  17. I have no idea. He said "they need the link to the car and your details". I'll clarify what exactly he's done, because from that I understood that the company would pay me direct. @Nick M.K. definitely finance from what he said. He also wanted to pay us 7999 and we give him cashback, as the car is 7500.
  18. Hi everyone. I have a customer who's applied for finance with his bank, but we're not FCA registered. Can he still buy our car? I know some finance companies can do it for private sellers, but I don't know if it can be done for traders who aren't FCA registered. Also are there any downsides to him paying us with finance if we've not provided it? Thank you
  19. How does AT know what's relevant to each person?
  20. I meant that genuinely. Sometimes I read things on here and think "why don't I know that already?" I SHOULD know these things and I don't. That's the way it was intended it wasn't sarcastic or aggressive or anything! Thanks Rory. I've often thought of going on a course. I know some traders know all these things naturally, but I clearly don't. I'll find out the masterclasses, thank you.
