I agree with you Met and thank you for your input and reply as you know more about the law side of it than me .

What I meant with the grey area is I don't see  any real harm with a trader using one of his cars for a few days as long as it has tax insurance mot etc we have all have from time to time more so back in the day when you got the old tax disc with a few weeks remaining and half a tank of full

The point I was making was for  people who may not be aware that they could still be stopped for the car having no registered keeper and the yellow slip filled in to say its in the trade like you have confirmed also although if its there car and everything is legal like the traffic officer on tv I guess most would be understanding

I don't really like think its a bad thing as you say it stops or at least reduces the number of people getting speeding fines or worst cars used in a crime etc for there previous cars this off course only has to be a good thing and the traffic officer is only doing his job correctly by stopping a car thats owned it the trade

I wonder  how it would work with the dd thing if the car is owned in the trade .

  2. I remember seeing a cop tv show episode thing think it was road wars from memory . although the car had tax mot and insurance they stopped the driver because it was registered in the trade and didn't show a registered keeper . Think they sent him on his way with a warning from memory

as you say Grant I don't see the problem myself but guess there is grey areas everywhere .

  3. Good luck

You can fill it in as a sole trader I would says long as you have a trade policy your ok  get yourself a rubber stamp and stamp name address part and sign the yellow slip there's lot of people involved in the trade that are not a Ltd company as well as part time traders etc

I'm confused. This is an issue because his insurance did not have sdp in it? Is that even possible? What law is he breaking exactly...?

I think that was the issue that it maybe didn't extend extend to Sdp unsure if he had and never heard the eventually outcome,in the end just remember them saying at the time like you though it did confuse me at the time .maybe he hadn't placed it on mid or something your guess is as good mine .

I think you can get insurance that's motor trade only road risk etc minnus sdp.someone correct me if I'm wrong ?

ive did it before to taxed it whilst in the trade used to do it regular back in the disc days if I was using something for 8 weeks or so

    Thanks Blenheim

Yes I understand that and was going to say I don't know the tax implications  as a ltd company and as you say its becomes a company car I've been a self employed sole trader and auction buyer for some car sales people unsure if JA is LTD or not

I actually know a guy got a tug for using his own car registered to him  to go to a family wedding on his trade policy don't know what the outcome was just remember his business partner chatting about it at the time .

  6. If It doesn't effect the value much by putting in your personal or company name ie making a 1 owner car a two owner etc then sometimes i think it best too .

I had a golf once and put in under the company name I owned  the guy tht bought it said it reassured him it was a good the fact that it had been owned by the company previous . As if it was good enough for my personal transport then it was for his .

tradex the polices I've had or seen normally mention on the policy certificate

something like covers such and such for trade use extending to social domestic and pleasure use but it normally states vehicle owned by them or the company for personal use so unsure how it would work if its notified as in the trade although even though you still technically own it the boys in blue might not see it like that .and say it should in fact be registered to owner or company ie joe bloggs or bloggs car sales  and the trade part covers customer cars road testing test drives collecting cars etc    .

I remember working for a guy years ago and wouldn't have liked to have seen his renewal

his said any employee friend relative or acquaintance   was cover for trade or personal use this was in the late 90s though i think its a lot different now

  7. Do any of you ever sell cars word of mouth due to your good reputations you all have.

some of the independents I did work for used to get it back and forward..obv not as a regular thing but I've heard a lot

like my auntie bought a car from you .

Like umesh with his bulb  story Some of the repeat customers are in there 4 or 5 th car from there now .

You want to try AA site its only pennies a week at the side of Autotrader :D

BUT you might as well SHUT because you wont sell anything

If your Not making AT work look at what you advertise would be the first step , condition , price " inc if your too cheap " , pics , wording on adverts , Stock type ,

Ebay will sell cheaper stuff I would think , Car Gurus might sell cheaper stuff , AT sells all cars believe me , we couldn't imagine not being on there to tell the truth .

BUT again others on here  are living proof that life after AT works as well . All depends as there is not one all round rule that fits all in this game .

I remember advertising an old polo saloon years ago the car was 12 years old at the time but i found out later it was one lady owner since about 2 years it only had had something like 46k miles at the time the lady only did about 16k with it did its first 30k was with the previous company owner for 2 years.

polished up nice new set of plates new wheel trims . Minimal mot work for a test a mini service . Full valet machine polish shampoo seats etc And the lady even sent me the fsh and touch up pen .

at first I advertised it on the local free ads paper think as trade I was paying £10 at the time never got a call in weeks

put it on autotrader as trade think it cost £36 pound at the time phone never stopped for it although the eventually buyer said he seen it in the free ads paper .

Jesus, I need to go on a sales course. Why am I being schooled as if I've never sold a car before? WHY have I never thought of what you've just said??

:) The current margins up here with most dealers seem to be happy with 1k-1500k per car obv the odd one maybe do between 2k-3k on some cars .

But the majority of the guys I know and associate with are happy with that on the old px it's probably a £500-600 mark up as you all say 4 £995 cars a week week happy they sell too with people looking for cheaper transport . TG I thought you were learning for the best on here lot of guys and girls with a lot more knowledge here than us I Guess.  Remember in the car trade every days a school a day .

the cost to change thing has been a well known one for years across main dealers and training manuals etc and is  one of the most important factors .

My border collie is pretty fit for an oldun but about a year ago we took her to the vets because she just couldn't move.  My Mrs took her (it is at the end of the road) because a taxi was waiting to take me to BCA to collect a car.

I made the taxi stop outside the vets and I ran into the room in tears (like a baby as you say Casper).

Luckily, she is back to normal now and has plenty of energy for an old girl.  She has stopped coming to work now though, I ask her every morning if she wants to come with Daddy but she gets too tired and can't sleep there very well.

I am welling up talking about her .

    Too soft for this trade.

I know the feeling Mark . My ten year old ones were fit up till last 2 days

the 18 month one had a good 18 month with me which I take as some comfort .he was so so young though just a pup really bought him from a proper enviroment and  and that too

same source as the other two actually a farmer friend . Seen him was his mum and dad playing he actually gripped my trousers to play which made me choose him .

    Spoiler alert. V sad.

So true. Us grown men are so soft.

This occasion, we knew it was time (bleeding from both nostrils (12 and a half)

Get there and they've laid out the chairs out around the Persian rug. Old girl sussed it right away I’m sure- ran behind my legs. What could you do.

At least they can escape. . :0(

    Dreadful.

The young collie kept looking at me I just broke down with him in my arms I'm not ashamed to admit . Never again my dad and sister took the older 2 at time dad was much healthier then as you say it's heartbreaking .keep telling yourself she had a good 12 .5 years I couldn't do that with him only been 18 months .

    So sad.

    Dogs/cats - awesome.

    People-not so much.

Really miss my recently departed  (3rd) GSD. Trying not to like the new arrival Springer Spaniel her indoors insisted on too much! :0)

It's take times I've known the wee jack Russell since he was a pup great wee thing he abouts 7 now in a few months you won't ever want to  part with the springer .

strange thing was the two 10 year old collies had been together all there days apart from 4 weeks when I decided I would take both cause one was the runt of the litter and had been turned down a few times he actually turned out  bigger and had slighty more muscle than his brother who was fed the same .they both took not well 2 days apart and went on to the vet on the same day to leave this world .

sorry for your loss with your German shepherd . It so sad when then go

honest that day at the vets with my younger collie is the worst I've ever been came home had chest pains cold sweats etc I thought I was going with him

been to a close friend funerals etc and. Never shed a tear although I did. When I went to hospital due to said friends  unexpected death . He was a sort of 2nd father to me he liked a drink and used to get him to come to auctions pick up parts etc with me to keep him off it

    Hi NOA,

Mel fine, my poor fit and healthy 4 year old cat got run over by some wanker speeding through our 40 limit who just fucked off, lady from the Petrol Station saw it, picked him up and he was already dead, put him in a box and brought him to me bless her ...............

Jeez that hurt, I was gutted. He was part of the household, at 4 years he was just starting to calm down a bit and become his own little self. It's bad enough when you lose a pet who is very old and ill, so that is kind of expected :(

We have 2 new gorgeous kitties now keeping us on our toes and waking us up at 4 am lol.

I'm just very busy with projects, and making the most of the decent weather to catch up on outside jobs, just re roofed the Conservatory, done a load of work on Hot Tub, pump and motor was getting noisy so I got an upgraded one, some newer style jets and some other bits, great to have it recommissioned, also a new sound system and lighting going in the Conservatory, bigger Beer fridge etc etc

Cleared out and sold / scrapped a load of stuff we no longer need / use, junked a lot etc.

I've heavy duty racked out the big storage shed for the impending breaking of the S500 Donor car I bought, then come early November the V8 etc will be going in my SLK, I've got all the parts needed and already cloned the V6 Immo Data to a spare V8 ECU, bought a programmer, built a lappy for it and taught myself how to do it :D

Also doing some de forestation, this is the first summer I've had for 5 years where we haven't had all the running around every weekend, weeks down south etc because of 2 terminal illnesses and deaths in Mels family, (her bro and then her dad).

Place has become a bit of a jungle with a long list of outstanding jobs, but I'm getting there now, also clearing and re claiming a large piece of steep sloping ground, local guy is going to fill it with rocks to bring it level with the rest then surface it so initially more Car parking, then maybe a huge Workshop in the future ;)

A few large trees to come down still.

Workshop is also really busy, if it were bigger I'd employ someone, well if I could find anyone decent local that is

I'll be back in force when it all calms down and the rains back on ;)

    Cheers for now

Thinking of you and Mel .Dave and also family I really mean that my deepest sympathies and heart felt sorrys go out to you .

I had 2 collies for 10 years brothers from the same litter before having to put them to sleep due do athritis hip displacement which was controlled by med but  a large abscess developed and it was the kind thing to do his brother had epilepsy and started to take fits as he got older he had 1 large one and the pills they put him on changed him I was heartbroken but they had no quality of life . Told myself they had a good happy 10 years which helped me through

I decided to get another  collie pup to get over it and he had been born with a brain tumour and lossed him to at 18 months vet set they didn't advice putting him through operations that may or may not work I was actually on the vet floor on my hands and knees holding on to him in tears crying like a baby that day as you say he was so young . Loved that dog so much still miss him nearly 2 years later .would ha e spent my last penny to save him if I could have might sound silly and daft to some but it's true .

The girl from the vets actually sent me card and phoned to see if I was ok

People don't get it when you say its like losing a family member I sure as hell do we actually paid for creamatiions etc ..

My friends passed and I ended up with his little jack Russell who took my dad which helped as my dad not in full fitness now . So go there most days sometimes stay over etc still

  14. Theres a furniture auction near me sometimes some antique stuff in but its sort of mixed variety with modern etc I like The police lost and found ones just missed a box full of deep snap on sockets for 50 pounds . Was kicking myself for weeks

Personally, i dont know how guys are making the money to make it worthwhile. I have a Polish guy at the end of my road rebuilding salvage in his front garden. He only deals in BMW/mercedes/audi. And from what i can gather only sells to his own Polish community who seem to covet 10yr old german stuff? And probably dont fully understand what having a recorded car means until they come to sell it.

Let's be honest, its the guys that are bent making tons of cash selling write offs. Always has been?

I don't think there is much money in it but that guy did alright for years he owned a mot station garage workshop bodyshop though  so had staff etc

Advertise the plates to the public , £20 +vat , we do 10/12 a week from a sign on the wall , takes two mins to do if they have the correct docs . Halfrauds charge £32 .

£200 a year to lease the machine is a no brainer , pays for our stock to leave with shiny new plates

Halfords must make a fortune from the public . Ive a trade card some off there stuff becomes reasonable . They do a price match so just phone the factors when your there

who do you use for the machine David if you don't mind me asking ?

Autosmart is a good all rounder .:D

We are also detail polishers , so don't get me going on polishes , beading water , application methods , time it stays on , how to prep surfaces before waxing or sealing or both or layering or what type and thickness of micro fibre to take it off is best .

Then of course there's the inside too .:D

Phew coffee time over , wow your lucky now , i gotta go get on with something
