  1. chris you have pm and thanks for the update
  2. that envelope is crazy, how could they even let it out the building. i lost a sale today thanks to the dvla, he comes back tommorow for his deposit back, i cant tax his car, i could have taxed his car if the local dvla office was still open, post office cant do it, phoned dvla, previous owner hasnt put it into trade, still registered in his/her name, sorry sir wait 4 to 6 weeks, in other words we dont care
  3. vehicle excise duty to rise from 1 april, any band from d upwards to rise by at least 5 pounds. exemption from road tax to become a 40 year rolling period [ used to be cars built before 1st jan 1973] so if youve got a reliant, allegro or mgbv its value could rise
  4. FOR SALE 4,990 TAX DISC HOLDERS LICK AND THEY STICK future collectors item any reasonable offers
  5. important update most questioned is whether the vehicle you jump into that wont be displaying a disc is it still taxed ? change of registered keeper ? then no, its not taxed and you risk the penalties. this new scheme is going to cost 8 million to set up and will deliver annual net effiencey savings of 2 million by year three in simple terms the road tax will not be transferable between keepers as is today. because you cant see the road tax in the window the new owner wouldnt know [ because he probably hasnt got internet ] if the old owner had " weighed in " the rent. so, every car, van, wagon, or bike has to be retaxed by the new owner from date of purchase. i suggest that car dealer magazine looks into this very important change and gives all the details to you that i cant hope to cover in just this short note but yes, as per my first post the day of " includes road tax " is going www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/264624/3._Vehicle_excise_duty_-_administrative_changes.pdf copy post the above google
  6. a reply i found on " pistonheads" quote = This is/was my fathers car. I agree with all your comments but please read on as to why the car was left. He could see the kerb all the way under the bridge so presumed the water level was low. Half way through the puddle the car stalled, water up the exhaust without high revs, etc. Dad opened the door only for the water to poor in! He contacted his insurance company immediately who said there is no way they can move or touch the car due to the water being contaminated! They would wait until the water level reduced due to health and safety. Well it has not stopped has it! We presumed it would be a write off due to the water getting into the electrics etc but waited to hear any news. Unfortunately the area of Lynne/ Chertesy is renowned for pikies/travellers which thanks to not paying any taxes have bought houses in the area. Word would have spread pretty quickly and Dad went each day to check on the car. He was alerted that the tracker had gone off but then the signal vanished. He went check after that again only for the car to have gone! It looks like the car was moved into the inlet where it could not be seen. It was then stripped to how you see the pictures now. It is disgraceful but that's life! http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1376179&mid=0&i=100&nmt=Audi+RS5+stripped+at+roadside%3F&mid=0 the reg still shows as taxed and on the road according to dvla so it seems the insurance company are dragging there feet if they are actually going to pay out having not informed dvla that its catb ?
  7. i would not rely on the history turning up, even if it does exsist whats in it for arnold clark to pull out stops to get it to you asap ? sorry.
  8. them roadside pitches are dropping like flys round here dont know about near you, one minute its all flags and this weeks special, next week its a car wash for £4 ! not even chance for another trader to take note and enquire on the rent before the lads are in with there chamois, cant quite work out how theyre making it pay with so many of them about and the low prices and lack of custom, i have my suspicions but thats one for the law to investigate, with the internet is passing trade dead then ? have we seen the last of the bunting flags and portacabin ? internet and sat nav seems to be a great boon to the buyer on the lookout from home for his next purchase, and visit a warehouse type set up on a small industrial estate, its certainly happening quick in west yorkshire, very sad i think ?
  9. Saw a minter on the a630 out of doncaster outside a house today, the a630 is doncasters car sales "golden mile" minis climbing buildings, fleet directs ? and runabouts from 699 apparently ? what a strange thing that x90 was
  10. the salvage yards are now running out of room down south and moving vehicles up north, you cant just put salvage in any yard, enviromental reasons
  11. a look through the world wide webby thing shows no details held at dvla but ive spotted someone was searching for this car back in 2007, reg bur152, in "oldclassiccar" same person perhaps? good luck
  12. think we all? know that a certain manufacturer found it cheaper to hide a known defect and pay out compensation rather than recall cars [families that died in fireballs due to exploding petrol tanks when rear ended ] we are talking billions of dollars. But then i hear some dealers are taking advantage of recalls and noticing other faults while its in for its " free of charge " recall, tyres discs wipers, springs to mind, so it could be viewed from any angle if you understand me.
  13. i must mention that i got excellent service at my vauxhall [ parts] dealership lately, in fact parts dept have always been helpfull, through conversation with one of the workers at parts he told me his staff have been cut 50% in the last few years, and i noticed through there office window the wallboard that someone had wrote on " today, beat all quotes " !!! which i wasnt supposed to see ! so they still work hard
  14. Buyers be very carefull out there ! theres plenty of self insurance, third party only etc cars out there flood damaged, and abi catagories are just meaningless nowadays, been told its only gone up to sills and hence cat d is meaningless, insurance companys just want as much back as possible, hell i am expecting that flooded/stripped audi mentioned on here popping up somewhere catc just keep your eye out anyway !
  15. my last sale was to a teenager, sorry should i call him "gen z " lol? came with his parents of course, fortunatley [ for me] his parents had talked him into starting second hand and under £2k, and looking for the lowest insurance, he probably [ and many are after lookig at overdescribed dross] without his parents guide ended falling for a new car with " free insurance" and battling with credit for five ? years, hardly a good start in life in my opinion. Teenagers lost interest in cars five year ago i reckon, show them where to top the oil up and theyre not even looking when you glance up at them, does it stop does it start, where do i plug my tablet in or something is all i hear, very sad. Education is whats needed, if you shop around you can get cheap insurance, ok you might need a black box fitted, and you might be restricted to not going out after 12 pm and the parents should guide them more, explain theyve better chance of getting on in life if they have wheels AND how to look after them, it saves money ! I try when they turn up at my place but they think i am just out for the sale, ho hum !
  16. you want the truth ? i have logos, bloody big ones on my building ! i dont put it in my adverts and i dont include the name in my trading name, but when you turn the corner and see my place you can see i specialise in *****, and i dont care, i dont compete with my main dealer, theyre hopeless, yes they will sell you a car, and they will service your car, theyre standard of service is terrible, theyre parts prices are just stupid, you go in for a wheelnut they want to sell you the complete hub and suspension [ for example] classic computer says no attitude, i even make a point of telling my customers to keep clear, guess what i am saying is they dont help me, so i dont help them.
  17. thing is, if you had told mrs a that you can only hold it with a deposit she might have thought you were trying to corner her ! you cant win in this game ! from what i read mrs a had ample oppurtunity to " get a quote for insurance " and coming in 'either tomorrow or Monday' is not a firm confirmation on her side neither, youve done zero wrong ! have a little bet with you, bet you a tenner if you phoned her back up and told her the other clients backed out then you still wouldnt get a sale from her, there will be a reason and its probably her husband saying you know we cant afford it ! trouser the money and carry on and regarding deposits, i remind customers that YES there deposit is fully refundable BUT i am entitled to compensation because they have broken the agreement for buying the goods, this compensation could come out of there deposit money because i have spent money based on there order [ cancelled adverts, mots, taxed, storage list can easy cover deposit ]
  18. one more thought ? theres a 10% charge on top if you only get 6 months rent, if you paying monthly then punter may as well get 12 month, dvla looses 10% that they got off the poor
  19. okay so my reply is i deliberatley didnt click the link so i could i see it myself on tv first, which i caught on last nights tv [ so wasnt distracted by thinking "ah" ive seen this before on here] the first ten seconds had me puzzled, guess you could say it caught my attention but girls saying " you dont know what your doing " could be a bit downgrading to viewers but hey ho onto next bit, this where sorry but the failing is i see, a very smartly dressed woman in a rainy busstop doesnt add up, not when you see the value of car shes searching for [ £11k?]. far better this scene would be someone in a office using work computer searching the site and a picture of her old car outside in the office car park looking bedraggled and unreliable, or even perhaps her stood in some reception being handed a large bill for her old car that needs plenty £££ spending ? my opinion is someone in a bus stop wouldnt be searching for a car unless it was around the £2k mark ? the end 4 ? seconds has too many words in it, it should show the site to search full stop. [ motors.co.uk? ]
  20. a quick check on dvla road tax site shows site last updated 14.11.2013 so thats helpfull
  21. I forgot about the "mechanics" that they bring ! usually in overalls covered in emulsion not grease and when you talk to them apparently they used to sell cars, but got sick of the idiots !?
  22. i understand the basics of this and when its to be allegedly to be introduced, but i have a few questions, is this the end of selling a car thats "taxed" ? does the "road tax" when the new system comes in, belong to the car or the owner ? surely if youve bought the tax on the direct debit dvla are introducing you aint going to continue paying when youve sold it ? cancelled immediatley electronically ? is this a back door way to ensure every vehicle is insured ? [ punter sells car, new punter has no tax, has to have it on mid to retax ] if said customer of dvla sells car and claims refund, whats to stop the refund going to new registered keeper ? [ its happened to me !] i dont think enough has been told yet regarding this new system so my first thoughts of brilliant! customer can tax his own car! saves me paperwork ! has been put back when i heard my local dvla office was closing i guessed this was coming ! IS THE DAY OF INCLUDES TAX GOING ?
  23. bodywork, its the only thing they seem to know to check, picking out every little mark and scratch, you stand there and tell them " well up your price then matey " some understand some dont, the car has to tick every box, from mileage to owners, yet theyve only got £1595 max, theyve been looking for months, think how much petrol theyve wasted ! not theres, yours/ours ! i turn em off me after 3 minutes, stories of the cars theyve looked at, gets tiresome, " best weve seen so far " i hear em say, but know theyre not going open up there wallet today here ! thing is, if its for there " loved one " it can be the best ever thing ever with substantial history and minmter than mint and i can practically guarantee that within 2 year it will be systematically wrecked and destroyed or stuffed up the back of a poor sod in front in the first month, to dam fussy, tyre kickers, time wasters, what do you call them ? should be a tv programme, like watchdog, follow the family thats wastes traders money, time and patience, i would watch it ! " thats life, the other side "
