Plus the conflict of interest from VOSA's point of view will be a tough one to negotiate constantly. Workshops are hard work, some jobs go wrong and take ages, some jobs are very straightforward. Some of the straightforward ones cost more, we had a mechanic that kept on knocking TMPS sensors off everytime he changed a tyre. To be honest if you find someone that needs your business and will not rob you stick with them. MOT testers are £20k per year in the North East, however with regards to a good mechanic i reckon your right. £30-£40k.

But its only a manual gearbox with a robot to press the clutch and change gears for you..... what could possibly go wrong?
-
We had a Fiesta in last week that had been fixed elsewhere, they took the instrument cluster apart and blanked off the lights! Shame the speedo went through the ABS pump!
-
Hes just a customer that probably knows nowt about cars and is just a bit nervous. They all spout shite from time to time. He wants you to put your arm around him and tell him everything will be alright Timewasters are a big part of this job, its all about weeding them out ASAP.

We use ecutesting... not the cheapest but quite reliable. Like justin said, I would check the feed to the pump, not a big task.

Providing a refund on a car not yet handed over?
Stalker replied to AutoJacob's topic in General Dealer Chat
Unfortunately with all distressed purchases (repairs are always distressed purchases) customers never want to pay the extra, NEVER..... N E V E R... get that? They also don’t ever want to pay the labour again to change a £50 part when it fails two months after a clutch change. You have also read my reply wrong... I didn’t say that a dmf should always be changed. We are the only garage for miles around us that will just do a flywheel or a clutch without doing the whole shooting match. What kind of a car is it autojacob? Can your workshop not pull out the stops and prioritise the job for you? Please don’t tell me you bought the parts? -

The only problem with that is that customers don’t listen or understand either. I have no problem fitting just a flywheel on its own if the clutch is fine or vice versa. Internal slave cylinders can be a real lottery and should be changed ideally every time. -
We use a tool bought several years ago from an old fashioned engineer in Castleford. They operate as dynomec, they sell shed loads and have contracts with the AA and RAC. By far the best £99 ive ever spent.

Just an idea, could the moderator of this forum perhaps make some of these threads a sticky? This is one of the topics that is discussed every month with exactly the same answers.

Definitely the case. I know that we often get the runaround on cars, had a mk3 focus in a couple of weeks ago with an alternator light on, turns out the feedback wire from the alternator is shared with the feedback wire to the radiator shutter grille. The radiator shutter grille had a proper mouldy green connector plug that needed bypassed.

Dont waste any money on oil sensors, relief valves, oil pumps etc... The strainer is full of mashed up timing chain guide. it needs a chain kit and the sump off and cleaned out.

It appears to have two pressure sensors! Never seen this before, one of the pipes from the dpf tees off to another sensor that then differentiates between the dpf pressure and the inlet manifold? Sorry EPV by the way.... We are awaiting more info from you

We have a CLA with the OM651 engine that s being a pain in the arse on the DPF side! Its a low mileage one we sold too! I think i have found the culprit.... a loose jubilee clip on the pipe to the MAF. Probably not tightened at its last air filter change.
-
I hate these engines with a passion. The tightest engine bay ever on the egr side!
-
Does it have a freewheeling pulley on the alternator? We have had these not drive the alternator and then give out a low charge, can you get the fault to happen? What is the battery voltage before and after the fault occurs?
-
I wouldn't waste your money on a new battery. Splitting hairs on the difference there i reckon.
-
We had a E60 535d come back a couple of weeks ago with just about every electrical fault known to man.... We had it running it was charging at around 18v.... regulator fixed it. £40 at our local starter and alternator man.

There has already been a referendum. The winning vote was to leave the EU. Thats it.... simple.

A number of years ago I worked with a salesman that only dealt with customers that surrendered..... I lost count of the times he had taxi operators rock up and buy between 5 and 10 cars. (Ex ADT bobby basic escort/focus/Astra estates) He never wanted to sell to many cars as it spoilt his benefits!

I might have known you would comment the head seems to corrode around where they seal, and the loctite seals up the imperfections
-
Surely you have seen this one before traded. Tell your mechanic to use genuine core plugs, get the hole nice and clean (awaiting smart arse comments for that one) and use a bit of loctite on the sealing part of the plug.
-
Washer jets - easy to diagnose and fix. or core plugs leaking in the chamber where the spark plugs sit - again an easy diagnose and repair.
-
I certainly wouldn’t be giving mercedes all that money. Whatever is wrong with getting it done at a local decent garage. Its on a digital history now anyway, if a customer isn’t happy tell them to throw the copy of the invoice away along with £500 to get it serviced. We would give it an oil and filter and have a spy at the rest of the filters and change them if required.

Auction house of the year goes to ........?
Stalker replied to metcars's topic in General Dealer Chat
Firstly, may i congratulate Manheim in winning this award. I'm sure all of the advertising budget invested was worthwhile. Secondly..... Now that's a glamorous location for an Awards Ceremony. Beats some local town/sports hall I guess. Thirdly...... Id love to hear BHM's comments on his reasons for why they won. -
Debit Card Charges.... What do we do now??
Stalker replied to Wood235's topic in General Dealer Chat
Yes it really is disgusting the way we get bullied into just accepting their prices. Were with Streamline, their reconciliation times have just increased by a day.... just to help our cash flow. With regards to cash... this is more evil in terms of charges for us. We are now pushing bank transfers.
