  1. Any thoughts on these? I have always had autos to sell but only ever had one French auto and really got my fingers burnt. This is 1.6 chap has to p/x against a Mini Cooper s 2016.

    New MOT rules

They won't keep it I was just thinking if everyone who failed on the dangerous catergory was law abiding and left there car there. As it states you are not allowed to drive it away by law.
  4. So this week I have a few MOTS booked in. What happens if any cars fail under the dangerous condition and as the new law states it cannot be driven until it's repaired? Potentially my MOTstation could have cars left outside waiting to be picked up by trailer to be taken to another garage for repair. Get a load of dangerous fails one week and then cars will be dumped all over the place surely.
  5. A few weeks ago I was offered a c220D Merc 09 black, manual, yes I know know one wants a manual Merc! Snapped handbrake cable and wanted back bumper painting. S/History and very long mot. Now the chap had been to a few traders who rejected it as it had 270000 miles on clock. Still not sure if I done the right thing by turning it away when he told me how much he would accept. what would anyone want to give and retail this for? I really think I could of made a profit putting it through the block, but would anyone bid on this? i never buy anything much above 100000 the highest I've had was a 130000 miles diesel shogun and that flew out the door.
  6. More trouble than it's worth. Back into the auction and take a hit. It happens, move on.
  7. I did use to be the same but after many years of people talking a load of rubbish I'm so cheesed off with them I tell them. I also stopped test drives until we sort a deal subject to test drive. I've wasted so much time test driving for them to offer half the asking price. I mainly sell one owner fmdsh and I like them to be showroom condition with everything working. My ocd. I still get wasters telling me they have other ones to look at or they have to wait for their aunties inheritance. It never use to be like this. I had a lady call me after owning the car for just 3 days as it had a puncture and wants me down her house to put the spare on. Isn't it strange how all my customers best mates are car machanics. Lol. I've forgotten more than they know.
  8. Some time ago I was selling a p/x I had in to a young lad. His first car. He turns up with mum and some skinny pot faced 17 year old machanic who he tells me knows everything there is to know about Corsas. He then gets a trolley Jack out of mums car as he's too young to of passed himself so mum has to ferry him around and wants to Jack the car up. This was after asking for a glass of water. No not to drink but to pour over the windscreen and sunroof to see if they leaked. After reving the bo⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Out of the car I'd had enough. They can keep their £1295 I told him nicely the car wasn't for sale to him and ask him to leave. One week later he was back as he hadn't found anything to suit him. The Corsa had been sold two hours after his first visit. They are the best ones.
  9. Simple answer is tell him sorry he hasn't gone about this the correct way. No way on this earth would I pay £300. I have had this sort of thing many times. Be firm.
  10. Think I'd send it to the block. More bother than it's worth. Only ever bought these with the Volvo engine.
  11. How do they justify their endemity charges? Never use to be like this. The cashiers should wear a mask. They don't hpi everything as I just had one come up with finance owing. £6000 car as wel and took them 4 days to sort it. Lucky I had an understanding buyer
  12. All day at bca. What is going on can't move for people and cars selling hundreds above cap clean. Cars I have marked up at 3995 are making high 3s. I have a 58 Astra for 2495, watch an identical one make 22 today. Getting harder every year.
  13. Just sold same car on an 09 1.8 petrol but an exclusive done 74000 same colour 2 owners fmdsh super condition, proper straight car I got £2995. I'm in Kent where there are many between 3 and 4 k but are not shifting. I couldn't get more than £3295 for an 09 insignia.

    Yaris washer

I will check tomorrow but I think that might be the problem.
  15. Advice please. Just taken in a lovely old Yaris 03 in lovely Nick and an auto. Everything works except the front washer packed up on me while on a test drive today. I have put a new pump on with negative result. Tried another pump and still nothing. I have just checked fuse and that is fine. Any ideas please?
  16. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you are on a lose lose situation. I have been trading since 1995 so am use to a few of these problems arising from time to time. I have had friends in the trade who have stood their ground and ended up in the small claims court. Never have they come out on top. I would get it fixed and keep it friendly and who knows he may be a repeat customer. My advice is to take it on the chin and move on. Not worth risking bad publicity from social media. Fill it up with BP ultimate and give it a good 50 mile run. This has worked for me before. I have also run a diagnostic check which has come up as 02 sensor which I have erased and it's never come back on. Best of luck and I hope it's works out for you.
  17. A cheap oil can cause this as well. Strange but some people will spend 4K on a car ,a small fortune on cleaning products to clean it on a Sunday morning ,then top up the oil with the cheapest of oil from a supermarket.
  18. Can't believe some people walk away from cars with mayo caps. I've bought plenty and sold plenty of these short journey cars. Just sold a low mileage v50 like this under cap and had customer phoning back saying gasket has gone. I told him to do 50 mile run. It's now as clean as a whistle under cap.
  19. Stopped going there a few years ago as it got more and more expensive like the rest of them.
  20. I've been in the trade since 1995 and the margins are smaller now. I've always been fussy and car must have history, be clean and look good. I've never had very high mileage stock. It's more trouble than it's worth. There are thousands of cars for sale so yours have to be very very good. I've never been the cheapest as the cheapest are the rubbish. Let them look at the cheapest before they come and buy mine. Ive often wondered how traders make a living when I see some of the shite they buy at the block.Always polished the backside out of a car and vacuum it to near new condition. It works for me and I always normally sale to the first viewing. If only I had a quid for every time I've heard this is by far the cleanest and the best we have seen. We have seen some rubbish. I then think to myself yes you didn't see this when I bought it lol. Hard work pays off and being the cheapest wil not make the phone ring, it just makes them think it must be a lemon. I have a friend who never repairs dents or scratches and he holds them for weeks. I always touch all blemishes up and clean any stains on interiors, I have a very good paint shop and it works.
  21. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but way back in the nineties when I was a newbie I went to the block and bought a lovely c class for 6k. That was one of many Mercs I've had over the years and by God it was the hardest to shift because it was a manual. The phone was melting but first question every time was,Is it auto? I always make sure the bigger stuff I buy now are auto and I have done very well with them and they have never hung around. I eventually got rid after 4 months of advertising and promised myself I would never buy another manual Merc.
  22. I started trading in 1995 and looking back it was fantastic days and I made plenty more than I do today. I use to buy lots from the block but now I just stand there in disbelief at the sky high hammer prices. A little while back I believe the beginning of this year I watched an Audi A4 Tdi SE model 04 plate 50000 miles 1 owner sell for 5400. Yes 5400. I have sold two so far this week a 12 plate Corsa I had to give blood for at the block and a Toyota Aygo I give 450 over trade. The Corsa I had to pay so much for just to get some stock but shock tonight as it's just gone for a 25% profit. Times are hard and I feel it will get worse. You do get a great feeling when you sell one though and you couldn't get a job that's pays so well.
  23. Had the exact same problem with a Meriva a few years back. Turns out the unit had been replaced so wasn't paired. I went to a fella in Whitstable who done it while I waited. Wasn't very expensive so if you have someone near you it can be done
  24. Sorry fault. It's been a long day.
  25. Bought a Insignia petrol yesterday from bca and there is a oil leak from behind the manifold. Not noticeable when going through the block. I'm thinking this to be the oil cooler. Is this a common thought? I really haven't the time to do this myself. Any thoughts on price for this. Seems this month everything I touch turns to dust.
