If the best thing about a car is “Full MOT” then it must be pretty undesirable.
-
In this trade we experience ‘dodgy painters’ cos most of us don’t want to pay the price of a proper one
-
Remember, punters don’t know you’ve painted it so won’t be staring at it like you looking for imperfections & colour matches. Tbh as long as it’s some shade of black 95% of punters won’t notice.

Have you ever actually met anyone called ALF225S?
-
Obviously it all depends how they assess you for risk but give Peacock Insurance brokers a try for the sort of doorstepping cover you want.

I had a cheap Aygo the other month - went within a few days. Tbh I was surprised that for such a modern car how much of a horrible vibratory heap of shit it was. The basic engine’s fine and has an ‘unburstable’ feel but evidently Toyota/PSA spent precisely £zero on NVH improvements with raucous engine bay noise transmitted into the cab fighting with wind noise & road noise - I’ve not got the best hearing but by the time I’d thrashed it along the dual carriageway at 90 for 20 miles my head was bouncing. My first car was a Chevette & I don’t recall that being anywhere as bad as these horrid devices. PS tbh I don’t rate Yarises much better.

+1 (although they’re think they might bag it for £4000, even though they’d love to have £3000 to spend, hope to scrape together £2000, have asked their parents for a £1000 loan but in reality HAVE ABSOLUTELY F.A. )

I know I sound like Mr. Paranoia but ‘the authorities’ want everyone to be totally cashless so that every transaction in our lives is recorded and can be scrutinised. Nowadays many people’s idea of a ‘cash deal’ involves cards or bank transfers. Brainwashed.

+1 & +1. If it’s the usual “best price 4 cash m8” brigade I usually ignore the email, occasionally when I’ve answered it been “it’s written on the advert”. Needless to say I’ve never sold anything to this crowd. If it’s a politely written email with a few basic courtesies such as “Hi” or “thanks” I advise it’s a prices correctly and outline I’m doing the job right with genuine MOTs & bills for parts replaced. I take this tack with the low-ballers who actually phone. I probably sell a grand total of a couple a year to these punters. Basically if a punter’s first question is about money off they either don’t have enough money and/or are just on a fishing expedition and don’t really know what car they want. Dealing with over 99% of these enquiries are a waste of my life. Finally, the family-man bottom dollar brigade are the ones who often like a second bite of the cherry. Unfortunately long gone are the days of a ‘cash-deal’, a handshake & they f***-off and get on with it. I sold a spares/repair £30RFL Citroen (brakes on the metal, bald tyres, a skip inside) for £400. The buyer signed his life away with a Spares/trailered-away invoice and he still came back asking about the locking wheelnut key. FFS

Wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Snap, my adverts have “2 keys” in flashing lights but those with only one key no mention is made - the punter can’t legally complain unless you’ve advertised 2 but only given 1. Anyhow it’s NEVER lost me a deal.
-
It’s clearly only going to last as long as the next rainy weather. G3 and a few minutes with the mop here.
-
You’d think this a £500 knacker. £70 recon for a really clean car doesn’t sound much to me - you want to see some of my bills on the shite I sell.

Customer car blows up 8 weeks after purchase...

+1. ABSOLUTELY 100% CORRECT. As soon as I read ‘texter’ I thought ‘arsehole’. I’ve NEVER yet had a texter make good on their promises and as for an 11pm call when he’s full of Dutch courage!!!! Don’t make me laugh -
I have little imagination & even less enthusiasm for ancient unknown Asian Rockstars, or whatever they’re called. Everyone else seems to think it’d be good news, if you’re all right then I’m wrong - I think it’d be an ornament. £2000!!???!!! He’s ‘avin a giraffe! Apart from a few members of this forum over the last 24 hours, how many on planet earth do you think have actually typed ‘Asia Rocsta’ into their search bar? Good God, virtually no-one wanted them decades ago, why now (unless there’s a thriving Asia Rocsta club)? I like a challenge but that’s a challenge too far.

+1. The contract was with the lady. The deposit was taken in person and as such is non-refundable. She has broken the contract, NOT the seller. Unless a deposit is in person it is refundable.

Why do some of you keep referring to the customer having a heavy right foot? Come on, do you seriously think it’s unacceptable for a customer to use his car? Nonsense like this is a complete non-starter. All if this conjecture counts for sweet f.a. as the full facts aren’t known. He’s already declared he’s going out of business AND he can’t even be arsed to fill in the blanks for those on here who are trying to help. He either gets the car back and deals with it or just f***s off the customer and deals with the fallout (if any - plenty of punters won’t bother but if it does goes to court I’m sure he’d lose). He’s going/gone out of business so it sounds to me like he’s had a belly full of this game. -
Customers are responsible for taxing their own vehicles here, just like their insurance. I’m here to sell cars, not meddle with things that I legally have no duty to do.

Autotrader & Manheim Joint Venture...Your thoughts
BHM replied to Arfur Dealy's topic in General Dealer Chat
Don’t make me laugh, that won’t enter into their heads. If I’m honest I’d rather contend with dealership appraisals than those offered by Manheim inspectors. -
Do f*** all.
-
Surely this comes into the “I couldn’t give a f*** category”. Why on earth would anyone tax a car for customers? Take payment, they then find the taxation issue themselves. I can’t imagine many of you will risk turning down a sale because of this - this certainly wouldn’t enter my head (or exit my mouth).
-
If it was anything much they’d of been on the phone to you. I’ve had 2 dealings with them over the years & tbh they were absolutely fine. You’ve only got something to fear if you’re clocking cars or are a c*** selling death traps.
-
Even at the lower end prices are strong. 12yr old run of the mill shite with no MOT that if a punter brought to me as a p/x I’d bid him £100-200 seems to be making £500. Currently I can’t buy miley 07-09 CRVs cos they’re making £4-500 more than 2 months ago. Unfortunately the general public don’t realise this and just want everything cheap.

My take on it is there’ll be more cars on the DA platform. One thing you can guarantee is that it’ll be out margins squeezed again. I do hope so. -
It’s f***ed I’ve seen theories on it’s “so-and-so” but as we’re dealing with 12 year old radios it’s a case of bin & replace. I opened mine up last week but there’s nothing obviously at fault so it’ll be a circuit board or component issue. Tbh electronic items aren’t made to be repaired (if your TV plays up you bin it & replace nowadays).
