Sold plenty to Ireland about 8-10 years ago when the Irish job was on fire. Most would buy any shite blind, and due to the sea between us the comebacks were nil. Many a moon ago via eBay auction a Jag to a government official in Kenya. Jag taken to a haulage company in Wales as the man was filling containers with cars & heavy engineering equipment. A few years ago a mega mileage Merc E320 sport estate in black. It was about 4 years old, I couldn’t sell it here for love nor money, but eventually a punter from Germany sent an email with an offer saying he’d could be on the xxxxx flight to Leeds Bradford airport next Wednesday. He came prepared with a set of Germany no. plates, asked me to screw them on & drove off as happy as Larry. A year or two ago a shitty old Vitara bought via Dealer Auction on a whim from them shysters in Bolton. I thought they let it go cheap (I guess they’d warned off their local pet buyers) - the alternator & EMLs were removed & on opening the back doors there were no wheelarches left . Anyway, advertised on eBay as ‘scruffy, needs cosmetics & some work’ and a couple of Hungarians came as they where buying just about every old Vitara in the UK & sending them ‘back home’. Made £600 wages funnily enough on a scrap Vitara so perhaps Bolton’s finest did me a favour overall. A few years ago a Yaris to a Cypriot who drove it back - he got the plane over & then tried chipping the price. Needless to say his discount was sweet f.a. An old white Lincoln town car limo - the Italian buyers arrived in a few they’d already bought. They were driving them all to Italy. Good luck cos mine was doing about 6mpg. That’s enough for now, I've plenty more, probably because half of my stock is unpalatable to UK buyers so thankfully Johnny Foreigner has stepped up to the breach!

The strangest mot history, ever!?
BHM replied to have a word with the wife's topic in General Dealer Chat
I’d only value it at £100 scrap money anyway. -
All joking aside now it looks priced right to me.

Thursday is very different to a Sunday even in London.

One for Phil Nothard to answer!

Tbf to AD as he wrote his was a manual & had more miles than the Starship Enterprise. It up to you but if the car’s somewhere near right you can afford to undercut your local competition. It’s up to you, you may have financial or storage constraints but if it was me the last place it would be going is the block.

You’re absolutely 100% correct but I find that a good 50% of punters can’t see past the price. I think it depends upon the car & the type of buyer they attract. Oddly enough I find ‘Zafira man’ receptive to a mechanically prepped car but I can point out new brakes, new brakes etc. as much as I like on a small hatchback but the usual horrible greedy buyers of small cars only understand bottom price, they’ve seen 5, have another 5 to see & whinge about a bumper scuff on an £800 p/x with new tyres etc. - I’ve just had this scenario this week. Tbh it’s getting to the stage we’re I’m going to ‘spares or repair’ any small car & just blow it out of the door for pennies on eBay - the punters are f***ing horrible.

Here! here! You can always tell those of us with years of experience in this game

Possible 2-3 months in stock so you send it straight to the block? It’s coming in at right money so sell it at right money - don’t give p/xs away.
-
FFS you wouldn’t embarrass yourself stating something that is so blatantly obvious.

Welcome Finance must of dealt with some right scum. I remember the Washington Friday sales seeing their ‘offerings’ - Christ! Most of it was pure spew The one thing I will say though is that Welcome were obviously only interested in ‘clearing their books’ & not hanging out for profit. Some of their finer offerings (all things being relative) were for absolutely nowt and as long as you were prepared to upset your valeter and cough-up for oil, filter, discs, pads & tyres (always f***ed) then there was profit to be had. I understand why you pitch lads have to do finance to keep up the numbers but I couldn’t be arsed with it. Just give me a few cash customers any day of the week - so much easier, car gone, bye bye, never to be seen again.

I’ve only ever repaired one a/c system in my entire life & that was two months ago on the Mrs’s car. I was lucky & fortunately it was just gas (it’d been working but struggling for a few months) but tbh it’s rarely just gas - usually some sort of hardware needs replacing. If the car has A/C that doesn’t work I don’t refer to A/C on the advert so it’s not part of the sale. Tbh I don’t think it’s lost me many sales (50% of people don’t like it anyway & the other 50% all say “it’ll just need a regas”), everyone’s on a budget so I’m aiming to be price competitive and f*** the a/c

TIP: If you’ve got a punter ball-aching over whether or not an old knacker has had paint just move on. Anyone that fussy/ignorant is to be ignored.
-
Very true, you’d think a set of discs & pads and a lump of exhaust pipe cost the earth. The only trouble is, is that punters shopping at the lower end of the market are becoming ridiculously fussy - I have no idea how anyone sells to some punters they’re that much like hard work.
-
Price it properly. I could say wtf sort of price is £1525 - surely you mean £1495 or £1500? - although tbh a 13yr old Meriva at that money! You’re certainly optimistic, the old heap of shit wants the ONE taken off the front of the price - I CANNOT BELIEVE ANYONE IS SURPRISED BY THE LACK OF INTEREST AT THAT RIDICULOUS PRICE. Forget ‘easytronic’, overwrite the title with ‘automatic’ and SORT OUT THE CORRECT ENGINE SIZE. Forget rephotoing it, describe it correctly, price it correctly then it’ll sell cos when it’s at CORRECT money it’ll sell to the bottom dollar market & they don’t give a f*** about photo quality. Honestly, I’d £495 the heap of shit.

That’s one car I wouldn’t want to stand on - an old X5 near the end of its life. It’s just waiting to come back, tbh it surprises me these companies finance such vehicles.
-
Yep. Last week I had two punters who BOTH had engine failures, both diesel CRVs - I’ve never heard it before but two punters in two days. One thing connected these two punters - both had owned their car for about 4 years and both NEVER serviced their car. One was a horrible greedy c*** who I couldn’t do business with but the other (nice fella), as I handed over the FSH pointing out the next service was due in 8000miles or 9months he said “I don’t get cars serviced cos they don’t need it with modern oils”!!! This from a fella who’s old car is on eBay with a scrap engine & has just had to get a loan to finance his £4000 purchase from me. Punters are oblivious to the fact engine actually use oil.
-
Tbh the quality of p/xs is pisspoor at the moment and has benn going downhill for a year or more. Much of what I buy is 8-10 years old so I’m more concerned with the mechanicals & electricals than a few marks here & there. My GUESS is it’s not a case of the cream being hived off, more a case of punters generally are chopping-in when there car is half-fu**ed or due an MOT & has the usual knackered brakes, tyres, oil as thick as tar etc. etc.
-
The main dealers in my area are just about dead. And those that claim to be ‘busy, doing well’ errrr....appear to be dead & also don’t have many p/xs in the compound.
-
+1. Probably my favourite colour but in the last year or so it’s gone from Resale Red to Reduction Red (after you’ve not opened the door in 3 months). Handy cos ‘Er Indoors ain’t fussy, knows nowt but said she’d like another Honda in red if I ever get around to changing her car.
-
I hope not for the poor chap cos if that’s the case all 18/19 I’ve currently got advertised on the ‘net aren’t worth a toss Tbh it’s a funny old game & I stopped trying to work out buying patterns years ago. I used to worry at first but I’ve long learned that I can go for a week or two with a dry spell then suddenly bish, bash, bosh - a few away.
-
I didn’t here anything odd but I’ll have a proper listen & look when it gets here - who knows, perhaps a ride on the back of the Manheim wagon will fix it
