  2. Would like to see if they done the same with their cat c cars, because I'm sure more than half of those cat c cars would end up as 'N', but then they will be the older cars. Salvage online companies can no longer hide the fact a cat d car has substantial structural damage, so think its a good think all in all, for consumers!
  3. Misleading just as much as when a car hasn't had any structural damage and the insurer decides not to repair. There would be no value in a repaired cat s car nows, but with these salvage auction and overseas buyers, and the cat N cars that will fetch much higher money now, I think insurers will be rubbing their hands with glee!
  4. +1 Nothing like going to pick the car up yourself if you have the time, or even taking train and driving back on your trade plates. If you can' there are delivery companies USHIP, my shipley, anyvan, Movex. Just had a job through movex 158 mile trip £100 (VAT and fuel included), but the communication was poor as per usual, I had to chase him so he had release code, and they will just turn up at anytime. So you get what you pay for.
  5. No cat C/D cars could have had any amount of structural damage to the chassis, frame. People sometimes automatically think that all cat c cars had structural damage, and all cat D cars had none, not true. There are cat D cars that have been bent so badly they should never be repaired and there are cat c cars that have light deep scratches on the side. It will put to bed all those dodgy salvage dealers that pull a cat D car straight then sell the same car as salvage claiming it had no chassis damage. So basically when it has an S there's no hiding from the fact the car has had structural damage.
  6. Important changes to the ABI Codes The rules governing the way the UK salvage industry works are changing. Many of these changes will be 'behind the scenes' but the most obvious for our salvage customers will be the salvage categories. These changes are happening because, following the end of VIC in 2015 and because of concerns about new vehicle materials and technology, the ABI (Association of British Insurers) updated its Salvage Code of Practice - the rules by which the UK salvage industry works. These new changes start to come into effect on 1st October 2017. In preperation for this change, we have introduced both category 'N' and 'S' in the filter menus on the vehicle list page. The most visible change for salvage buyers will be to the 'repairable' categories: * OUT go repairable categories C and D * IN come repairable categories S and N The reason for this is that the new salvage categories S and N will reflect the type of damage to the vehicle, making it more transparent for customers. The non-repairable categories A and B remain. At present, whether repairable salvage is categorised as C or D depends on the cost of repair compared to the pre-accident value. This will no longer be the case. Under the new system the category will simply depend on the type of damage, without any comparison of the cost and value. Salvage with damage to the structural parts (realignment to original dimensions or replacement of frame or chassis) of the vehicle will now be category S (S for Structural). As in the case of category C currently, insurers will destroy the V5C registration document and buyers will need to apply to DVLA for a replacement V5C. This will continue to be FREE OF CHARGE. The replaced V5C issued by DVLA WILL be annotated (as Category C currently is) but the wording will change, reflecting the new category definition, to: 'This vehicle has been salvaged because of structural damage but has been declared suitable for repair following a technical evaluation'. Salvage that does not have any damage to structural parts will now be classed as Category N (N for Non-structural). As currently the case with Category D vehicles, the insurer does not have to destroy the V5C and should pass it on to the salvage agent. However, if the V5C or the green slip Is not available, an application to DVLA for a replacement V5C will be at the standard rate (currently £25). The reissued V5C will NOT be annotated.   7. I've seen those optima steamers do a good job on car interiors and exteriors, I was very tempted a few months back. But the price was way to much. Didn't come to mind the damage the heat could do to the glue in interiors or steering of cloth. But good point.
  8. Don't get me wrong there's some bargains there with easy fix problems, but some of the prices on them are eye watering. I still can't get my head around why private buyers would choose to ta car they may want to keep from the auction.

  10. I think DVLA are so wrong here, major admin error or whatever has happened....I saw the letter and didn't bother to open it as I thought it was a mistake. It was addressed to a Mr Ian Ball, sounds like some fat, pie eating, murderer. I only opened because I read the post on here

  12. Those stains are terrible, they look easily removable with a little interior shampoo and microfiber cloth, one can only assume those stains are permanent
  13. Agree, the shite I've bought from Wimbledon is ridiculous... Anything worth buying from there always goes for good money, hence why I haven't been there in a year.
  14. Buying a car let alone an auto one online is risky business... What reg, mileage, and how much did you pay for it? Have to weigh up whether to repair and resell, or sell straight and lose money, part and parcel of this game unfortunately we've all been there. To be honest they have said the gearbox is knackered, but you don't know that until you receive the car and get it checked.
  15. I thought I was the only one when it came to the threats and abuse.... Had anyone else been at the receiving end of abuse? I had a guy who wanted £1200 of my £5000 car, it was one of the cheapest in the country at the time. Anyway as I dared to decline his offer, the abuse and the threats started. 'who would want to buy that shitty car, I'll bang your missus, I'm going to rearrange your face and put you in hospital blah blah blah......' He left his number through emails telling me to call when I'm ready to meet and sort it out like real men. Dam right I called him, when he realised how determined and serious I was with meeting him, he soon backed down, tried to be my friend and justify his vile comments.

  17. If you was to get flashed by speeding camera, or get parking ticket, it use to go back to the last registered owner regardless if it was registered in trade, maybe it's changed now. It happened to me, had to write so many letters. In London they have cars driving up and down all day with a anpr cameras searching for cars with no tax, you'd be surprised the amount of cars I see clamped with no tax. Regarding the insurance, are you sure you was even insured to drive it. I know my insurance would be invalidated if I drove one of my stock cars for private use regardless of emergency. When I add a car I have to pick trade or private, if Its my own private car it has to be registered in my name. So double check. I'll definitely just register the car in your name, just in case, as they are aware of the car now or try sell ASAP.

  19. I could only assume as a business, because I remember him having a lot of cars parked outside his house. He use to buy damaged, fix, then sell via exchange and mart. Not sure if he still does, or just buys them straight. Will be nosey and asked my mate next time I speak to him.
  20. They have loads of people abroad bidding up the cars, and some of the prices they go for are absolutely ridiculous, plus there's so much hidden fees. My friends dad has been buying from them for over 10 years, so he has a strong relationship with them and always seems to get the decent unrecorded straight cars.

  22. I remember I use to race my smart up the motorway easily reaching 80mph, although when there were strong winds my heart did skip a beat....still better than driving the the old a-classes on the motorway with strong winds, now that will put the chills through your bones
