Lookers have 7000 furloughed. The share price has moved back up to 32p from a low of 11p which suggests there may be good news forthcoming. However their annual results are months overdue and keep getting put back because of their fraud investigation. They are also facing a heavy fine by the FCA after owning up for wrongdoing ( to help reduce the fine). There previous CEO appointed from within resigned after only a month. They are a huge company with £5 billion T/O and huge liabilities and they must be in a lot of trouble. Its such a shame they are a 100 year old company.I hope they survive but don’t be surprised if they put themselves into administration after their results are declared and then the good parts will get sold off and their leaseholds might be renegotiated.

interesting reading, always thought Lookers were a decent set up, worrying times for all but think particularly people employed in the larger groups, a neighbour of mine is a business manger for a large well known group on a 6 figure salary, he's still furloughed along with half his team and some other big wages. The group is now considering making all these positions redundant, not because they're in trouble but the fact they found out they can still sell as many cars with half as many expensive sales people. it'll force many to make efficiencies that they should have done years ago. big winners here I think will be us smaller guys that don't have the big wage bills, or the expensive gin palaces

99% sure no, local authorities worked out how much they would need and told the government, looking at the website some payments have gone out =http://www.spelthorne.gov.uk/article/19283/Business-Grants-payments in the meantime watch out for scam emails purporting to be the council asking for your bank details. the whole idea of these grants is to get them quick, the councils have been told this ! if you go here = https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy have a read through for handy information. i found out for you this = allocated to Spelthorne Borough Council Spelthorne Borough Council£15,132,000 paid out so far £12,975,000 to 981 of 1161 recognised hope that helps. i would phone them and tell them if you do not receive payment in the next 7 days you may go bust.............

Unfortunately all you can do is wait, sometimes as I did if you get a direct email for the person you’re dealing with you maybe able to push it on a bit faster

Door edges are a sure fire way of noting a cared for car , from a car used purely as a conveyance. Scuffed wheels/wheel trims is another ie badly scuffed. Finger fat on the interior switches, trims, steery wheel if not valeted, shows it was owned by some fat tart/or geezer that sweated a lot, avoid these cars at all costs as the seats will be saggy too

If looking at a private then you often “buy the owner” as much as the car. Evidence of regular maintenance and things being done when they need to be. Service history always a good indicator. Best we had was a Grade 3 Mini that was really Grade 1/2 but no history But limited owners. Quick few phone calls and turns out it had been main dealer serviced annually for 10 yrs.

Signs the previous owner ran on a shoestring, tyres are often a clue (e.g. random selection of Chinese tyres). HVAC works (can be costly to put right). Scruffy/smelly interior. I don't buy 'automated-manual' cars (like Honda iShift or Toyota MMT etc). If its DSG then check operation - obviously assumes you can road test the car. After 40 years I can quickly spot paint and panel problems.
