Doesn’t everyone charge their business 40p per mile of personal car usage? You can do so with £200’s worth of Corsa if you want. Anyhow, the family car is an old CRV but the days of me giving a toss about cars has long gone. Any one of my heaps of shit with the red n white plates thrown in the window does me. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, for God’s sake lets not start another debate about the usage of trade plates because; A) I don’t care & B) It’s all bollocks cos I’ve been doing it for well over a decade without issue.

ive taken them out but forget i think theres a fastener underneath? nasty radios they keep going faulty plus the words wear off its a bluespot so i should be able to do the code if you get stuck after replacing,if just taking out and putting back in it should work without code need

Go careful and build slowly. We started with about 6 grand! So 50 should make a nice little start up business.

Coastal welcome, take the leap, you won’t look back and you’ll wish you’d done it years ago.

The thing people think our business is easy. Buy a cheap car at auction, wash it and then make thousands.... Cloud fecking cuckoo land. We are professionals.

Wife has a 12 plate e class convertible the past 4 years, privately owned. I am nearly always driving a grands worth of something diesel that has come in p/ex, which I tax and use for 6 mths, and can dump anywhere, throw the dog in the back, go to rubbish tip etc. I did treat myself to a Cayenne diesel, which I kept for a year and sold over xmas. But i was totally underwhelmed by it and got bored driving it around after a month. Give me an old banger anytime. Oh and I have a mint Boxster 3.4S that I keep telling myself is the weekend car, (but it is really a stock car that I cant shift)

Old Saab estate for the short commute and tip runs/b&q on the weekend. Missus gets the bus or bikes to work and we usually use trains for long journeys and taxis in the evenings...i'll do pretty much anything to avoid driving

So it's the part timers that are causing the stupid prices at auction , Jack it in and concentrate on your proper job

I use excel, and have been looking around at the API's on offer just this week, (there must be about 20 to choose from)..for me Vitaltax looks to be about the simplest as you download the software once to your PC and don't need to send your data via the cloud to a 3rd party as with many of the others, its also cheap... like you wondered if anyone else has done it yet?

Hi Coastal You might have some good contacts for buying stock from your franchised dealer experience. If you have, that is a big advantage.BTW you don’t need to make a grand per car, just get up and running with your 50 grand and you will find your way.

based on what you have said, with respect too you i think the next step for you is too spend 6 months selling some dearer cars from home without the overhead to get a feel, the reality is these are the cars you will be needing to sell to make any money, believe me there is a big difference on a monday morning to how much you "try" to earn this week and what you "have" to earn a week once committed to full overheads. regards 50k, at your stage it is too much especially if you have borrowed it, when things get tuff you will go out and buy more with 50k this will not help you, try 20k across 3-4 cars from home, the biggest issue for everyone starting in this job is contacts and sourcing stock, more money is not the answer at this stage, if you do get established and are earning good profit then don't worry about needing more money, there will be plenty of people happy to give it you if your doing well. and also, with 20k you will manage the 3-4 cars better and probably enjoy the job until taking the bigger plunge. good luck.

I can’t remember exactly but I think My probationer suggested it after seeing the business plan I produced during a prison sentence.

I like this bit of the plan. It's a game where every purchase is a calculated roll of the dice but holding a bit back for quiet times is sensible. In my opinion £300 per unit is nonsense, you may as well stack shelves in Tesco for that kind of return. My only advice would be to spread your risk. 10 cars owing 3K each are better than 5 cars owing 6K each. More return on investment, more chopper opportunities, less risk of high recon wiping out all your money in one go. Oh and best of luck!

hi coastal this job is boom then nothing i think you are very wise to think carefully if 50 g is enough,it would be better if you could trade more from home and maybe rent a secure yard for viewings? this way your overheads are lower, theres nothing wrong with punting out cheaper if you can make the figures work ,good luck or rather happy dealing
