    Hi Lee Everyone gets a few declined every week.You don’t want to be chasing ‘chucky duffers’ if you are running a good business.In my experience,you want prime finance punters who create better commission and volume bonuses,they have better swappers and better still they are more likely to return.When these sub primers default and get snatched back,they don’t blame the chucky company,they will blame you for stitching them up ! ......I will stop there.

    I’ve never had any subprime clawback from First Response. I’d much rather have Prime punters too, but I’ll take any finance sale I can get.... I only get half a dozen subprime (paid out) deals a year probably but I’m very grateful for them as much as any other deal. Money is money Rodney.

    Have done full bumpers in the past and done long key marks on panels with varying success. Spraying solid colours on complete panels is ok as long as the colour match is good. Did an Aygo bumper and the match was really good. Then i did a turquoise metallic which had a long key mark down 3 panels ,frustrating as I got the paint matched but you could tell where the new paint had been applied. With metallics its much harder to get a good match and blend /hide the new and old areas. If you arent careful when painting you can make the car worse with your 'repair'. I tried a bodyshop who seemed reasonable on price and did a mint job on a 207 wheel arch, thought at that point that I had found my 'paint guy'. The next quote from him was laughable though so found another who is a smart repair guy. His price is decent and his work is faultless even with metallics so I will stick with him. He can do bumper scuffs and bigger, but touch ins and really light marks I will touch up myself. If you find a decent paint guy, look after him and even give him a bit of work every now and again that you could do. If you do decide to do large areas yourself then my smart repair guy reckons use acrylic/waterbase for the colour and 2k for the laquer as you then have the tough hard coat protecting the colour underneath. And of course use a mask with 2K! You need filters which are B inorganic (ioscyanate 2K) , and P particulate.

    When I was looking at space I calculated 200ft2 per car. You’ve got to leave space to get the buggers in and out as well.

    Yes, good advice - when I get a "decent" car, i.e. one you'd expect to have seen the inside of a main dealer workshop, whilst it's operator sips latte and a Highland cookie - I often get at least a service printout. Especially true of lease or company vehicles as you say. Then again, they say nothing handles like a company car - so perhaps they're not the best!

    The stench of finance on these cars is overpowering and the average potless cretin who gets out is laughable when they start the big man’s talk about money. These punters are never pound note men, always wanting to use their flexible friend. Hasta la vista, baby.

    I had that same thing a couple of weeks ago. Bloke arrives with his daughter who’s yet to pass her test so he takes the demo drive. They arrived in a late cayenne S. During the test drive he makes some comment about a lack of torque in the engine, what were they interested in? A limited edition 1.6 petrol Mini. Lack of torque! We then happen to drive past a 458 Speciale just up the road from me which he leaps upon the opportunity to tell me he has one as well So his daily drive is a v8 jeep and his weekend toy is a v12 supercar. No wonder the Mini seems underpowered sir. He did at least buy the Mini.

    I have a different problem as we aim for first time drivers you know C1 clio fiesta punto low insurance cheap to fix kinda kit, well we got a lot of parents turn up who want to test drive the car to make sure its safe and sound for there young ones / brats, i dont blame then one bit i am sure i will do the same, the problem i get is when some 50+ year old pulls up in his brand new 5 series BMW and test drives a Toyota Aygo he gets out all shaken up complains the brakes are poor the car rattles and shakes and its very slow. I dont even try and defend the car any more i have have given up its a £2500 Toyota not a £65000 BMW you space cadet rant over they all drive like a wheel barrow.

    Owners.....I remember when you could get away with all sorts........one titled owner.....Sir Robert McAlpine,.....even ex police panda cars were always stated as being owned by the chief constable .....punters believed it and it was legal.

    Just done a dipper on a 10 plate hatch with 6 owners. They justified the high owners to themselves and still went ahead. Why? Only new shape model about in good condition for that kind of money. A lot of people don't care if the plates new enough, it looks good and, most importantly, they can get it in their budget. It's gonna impress the neighbours a lot more than a one owner 57 plate old shape in their eyes.

    Doesn't really bother me too much. Most of ours are 3 or 4 owner units being around 8 years old average. Demo, PCP and then an owner or two...hardly unusual. We get the odd screamer when they ask but then they're not the kind of buyer I want anyway. Done plenty with 5 - 7 owners...as the ownership implies they're always a good seller! I get what everyone worries about with high owners. I don't care one bit if the cars sellable and a good colour. What we do avoid is the ones with two owners within the last six months...screams trouble that has been handed back to the supplying dealer a couple of times recently. Just done a seven owner VX 61 plate and they've been back to buy another because they trust the car so much. Our best is eleven owners but i'm sure some of you can beat that?

    It's quite easy to rack up a few owners - demo (1), first real owner (2), sold to dealer, maybe registered? (3), second real owner (4), dealer, third owner, etc (5). This is how I sell it and a direct copy and paste of my response to my last customer whim asked about number of owners: Customer: Concerned about number of owners: Me: I completely understand; what I would say is that often a multiple owner car is good news - what does everyone do when they get a new car? They clean, polish, service, get new tyres - all that lovely stuff. Single owner cars often start life like that, then the owner gets complacent, forgetful and the car just becomes a mode of transport. Does that help?
