Beautiful South Martin 24 Posted August 27, 2020 Just took a Citroen C4 1.6 HDi VTR+ 2009 in chop with nice 43k miles. Car had EML on when we did the deal but ran ok so took a punt and thought we would retail it. Booked it in at the local sparkys who said it had 2 faults Air flow meter and throttle body air dozer. New air flow meter and second hand throttle body off ebay fitted. No lights on now but we have now noticed that its very lumpy on tick over when cold, not stalling, just lumpy tick over. You drive it for 6+ miles and its fine? So not sure if it was like that prior to going to the sparkys or its since its had parts replaced. Is it pointing to dodgy throttle body or something else? Any clues guys?
Frank Cannon 812 Posted August 27, 2020 Have you done an injector bottle bleed check....my thoughts would be failing injector?

BHM 994 Posted August 27, 2020 Diesels are bad enough but being low mileage & 11yrs old it could be any number of things gummed up. My first port of call would be a couple of bottles of Miller’s or Wynn’s & absolutely kick its c**t in for 20 miles - show it no mercy.

As above, perhaps try see if you can reset the parameters for throttle body?
Bmx Bandits 52 Posted August 28, 2020 +1 injectors. Once you've had a good check of the work that’s been carried out of course. These later hdi’s (09+) injectors are shocking. They rarely fault code, will always start on the button, but then idle badly or/and have a flat spot when rev’d especially from cold, they can also smoke quite noticeably. We get our local diesel specialist to test them and 3 out of the 4 injectors always fail and the other one only just passes. We must have replaced over 10 sets of injectors in the past two years. I would also have a look at the injectors to see if they look new, as if they have been replaced and not had the correct re-learn test drive procedure followed they will run badly. Casper 272 Posted August 30, 2020 We run an old 207 1.6 hdi as a runabout going for parts picking cars up etc had a 1.6 307 hdi before that both did the same for the first couple of minutes from cold start the 307 had no faults although that did get a replacement egr valve over the years due to the management light coming on and the anti pollution fault and the 207 has a code logged for glow plug relay though theres no management lights etc and seems to runs fine so never investigated further .. hope you get to the bottom of it

My understanding from a diesel specialist’s comments is that most injectors past about 80K miles will be outside manufacturers tolerances anyway so would be classed as needing replacement.
