Panoramic roof fault

Recommended Posts

Hi guys hope you are all well and safe. Quick 1 here bought a mercedes e320 2007 with panoramic roof now before we send it off to our auto electrician is there a easy fix? Have tried the reset and pulling fuse 9 with no joy. The blind and roof won't hope just a clicking noise when pressing the button, is it a case of a new motor or is there something else to look out for? Thanks in advance

Try giving it a helping hand first, by pushing the glass at the same time as opening it.

The mechanism for the panoramic part is external from the car and any lubrication that should be there gets washed away.

There is a special lubricant from Merc for the pan roofs - part number A0009893660, feels like baby lotion to me :D

These pano roofs can be very problematic. They need to be greased at service (I believe its PTFE based grease) and of course that gets skipped.  The motors are also too small for the job and the plastic guides can snap. New guide rails are £300+ each IIRC.  I doubt there will be a quick fix. Try to find someone who is familiar with sunroofs, if their is such a person in your area.

Not sure if it relevant but....

Had a Sportage Pan Roof that was really, really struggling. Helped it open and pulled out a forest of debris from the runners, freshly lubricated and worked a treat.

I would just use any old lube before spending serious money at a dealer for their specialist slip. Or buy spray PTFE type dry lube?

Every one I've ever fixed (a few now) has been exactly that /\ /\ /\ ;)

So after a bit of messing about with the car today have discovered that the gear is actually working and not broken, we put power directly to the motor and the roof opens and closes but soon as you plug it back into the light panel it just seems to make a clicking noise:wacko: checked all 3 fuse boxes and all fine. Would it be a case of new light panel as it's faulty or a bad relay some where? Thanks for the input everybody much appreciated

Panoramic Roof's are a nightmare.

If they don't leak, the motors will break, and if not this then they will be creaky and rattly.

They are destined to become a problem on every car they are fitted to.

Get it on SDS, if that drive gear and motor is OK then there is another 101 reasons that is doing what it is ;)
