Range Rover sport not starting help?!!

Recommended Posts

Range Rover sport 2014 l494

Hi there guys I was driving my car back from auction and then all of a sudden the power cut out and the virtual cockpit is just black

All electrics work besides for the VC and engine won’t crank. Also ecus aren’t responding as shown in pictures
I had it taken to a dealership and this is what it came back with but they couldn’t fix the problem (see attached)
Any solutions

These bloody  things should come with a health warning, dealers are starting avoid them as part ex, as any fault can wipe out and profit (as is happening here)  .

So was it really a main dealer who couldn’t find the issues?  I really hope not as that is a bloody disgrace that they have  effectively written off a 5 year old premium car.  Any service history with it?

There are a few LR specialist around, where abouts are you located? (I know a couple locally in the NW)

Been avoiding them for years, these and discos are riddled with problems.

Land rover can't fix something they built? Joke

They have a 'mobile SWAT' team going to LR dealers with hard to fix electrical problems.....but even they can't fix all them.

There is talk of poor quality wiring looms causing 'bus issues with high resistance and board problems caused by poor soldering. No jokes about indian build quality because most are Chinese parts.

There are a LOT of LR buy backs sitting around in fields. :o

I always admire those whom buy them though, I sometimes feel they would of been 'first over the top' too.

Spat my cereal out.  SWAT.  Brill. Wonder what it could stand for in this instance? Serious Woeful Awful Tat? :0)

(At our local LR Dealership- they have two full time employees.  Their only job is to go fetch broken junk from the punters houses/work and take them to the workshop.)

I think if a Land Rover dealership haven't a clue this maybe a tough one.

Is it another scrapper, a bit of history may help....year, model, miles etc?

It’s 2014 Range Rover sport stolen recovered with only 24000 miles

Yes it was Land Rover in Bolton, spent 6 hours on the car and couldn’t find anything, no service history with the car

I’m based in Preston

im thinking it has something to do with the key because when they stole it, it got stolen with the key but RR want £1600 for a new key (new bcm, kvm, key for that price)

Those keys hold soooooo much info now that it may be OEM only.

How are you 'starting' it now? Aftermarket key?

Try old keeper for other keys?

You aren't TG's long lost brother are you;)

:D..... Long lost brother!

If it was stolen recovered then it could probably have been originally stolen without the key, where the thief searches for the key using a booster while opening and starting on the car keyless go. In which case, one would have thought that the insurance company will have collected the original keys from the last owner before payout. just a thought.

Different car...but had a similar issue with a Jag XF recently. Fortunately it was parked on the forecourt when it 'died'. Almost identical symptoms. Diagnostic couldnt read it either. Flatbedded to stratstones, and the stop start switch was replaced along with a module, which seemed to cure it.

FIAT or Alfa had to have the red key or people would run a mile?

Memories: BCA Tewkesbury.

I always remember the auctioneer waving the envelope and saying "The all important red key is here."

My Scooter has a similar thing (Italian).

I have a low mileage Fiat Coupe Turbo (in portafino blue with sunroof). I’ve not started it for two years through laziness. . I daren’t now I suppose.  Have the red key, but as with all Fiats I’ve ever had in the old days, I never needed it, but god do I remember punters bitching about them. ‘No red key?’ It was as if you’d covered the interior all of a sudden with doo-do.

Nowadays of course it’s the cambelt and god-forbid the lack of locking wheel nut key

FFS this is like pulling teeth:lol:

So it came with no keys at all, so how are you trying to start it without a key, or am I being stupid?

It had one key with the car but I believe that key might not be the original key that came with the car, maybe a key that’s been messed around with by the thieves

This topic is making head hurt, I thought the 'I sold a scrapper and it bit me the arse' was tough:lol:

Yeah, but it come with a free dealers key ring, I hope.

...remember when FIAT coupe keys were 1500 sheets in the 90's and everyone who had a FIAT or Alfa had to have the red key or people would run a mile?

Just a string of bad luck I’m having lol

As they always say, you make your own luck.

Buying stolen recovered cars with no service history, to me is making bad luck.

I love Range rovers but I hate the reliability issues, in currently getting letters from a customers solicitors about a Range Rover he’s having problems with after 15k miles and 8 months down the line. Did he really think buying a 2010 Range Rover was going to mean happy ever after motoring?

The problem with the pieces of poop, that they are very rarely small easy to fix cheaply problems.

We have one (Discovery 4) killing a ramp with a handbrake fault (self inflicted too) :(
