We're quite fortunate in our jobs that we get to try / drive lot's of different cars, but what do you drive personally? I would love something nice, but find it hard to justify having money tied up in something.... Do you have a daily runaround, and / or something special tucked away for those special days...? I'm sure someone will come along and say, whatever's on the pitch!! But interested to know what you all drive....?

Just sold a 17 year old Lotus Elise on a rainy day in October, and on a tuesday....... This job never ceases to amaze me!!

Once gain, it's worth a try, but I'm hoping Phil H is on the case. The problem I find, with VW, is that they will tell you the dealer code of where it's been in, which they did, a quick google revealed the dealer, but, if the dealer has changed their system or been taken over, sometimes they can only look so far back, in this case 2014. Perhaps I need to work on my charm offensive! -

That's very decent of you both. Happy to send some beer tokens your way, equally happy to cover a small cost if needs be, certainly don't expect anyone to be out of pocket. Thanks for the update. Intrigued about you need for Guinea pigs, do tell? As long as it doesn't involve dressing as a clown!! -

I can try and ask, but they're usually a bit funny about stuff like that I find. -
Fair play to you, you're obviously doing something right!! I'm still just gobsmacked how you have time to valet them. When I valet them myself, I always find that just as I pick up the pressure washer and get the car wet, gaurenteed the phone will ring and it will be the most pedantic customer ever, asking about tyre tread patterns and when the timing belt was last changed. Which would result in my going back to said car, than has now completely dried and has lovely water marks embedded everywhere!! Being as busy as you are, how do you find the time, to bid online / watch the auction / deal with enquiries / do all the handovers. Can I come and watch you for a week, please??! Do you wear a cape??

I took a punt today on a VW Golf Estate, with no service history. It's a 1 owner car, immaculate, with premium brand tyres fitted, original vw dealer plates fitted and headlamp protectors, and a boot carpet you could eat your dinner off! So my gut feeling was that it had been looked after / serviced. I know the VW system is usually pretty good as it will tell you where a car has been serviced. I rang VW Nottingham, (the dealer on the number plates) who confirmed that it had been into them in 2014 but only for tyres and an mot, but the service advisor commented that their address wasn't local, so it may have gone somewhere else. So I contacted Vindis VW (Nottingham VW didn't have access to the main VW database??), the receptionist was very helpful and commented that it had a very good service history from 2005 right through until 2016!! Bingo I thought, I asked for the dates and mileages but she said there were over 100 entries so wasn't willing to look at them all! Fair enough, she gave me the dealer code, who turned out to be Nottingham Volkswagen, but they couldn't look further back than 2014 as the franchise had been taken over..... Does anyone know a REALLY helpful VW dealer or contact who can access the information. I'm not looking for an itemised breakdown, just dates and mileages of services....? Any help would be really appreciated!!

The thing that constantly annoys me, is how every customer assumes you will knock money off the price, like it's a given! Don't get me wrong, I know everyone wants to feel like they've had a bit of a deal, but sometimes, when a car is perfect, you've just serviced and mot'd it, it's got 2 keys etc, but they still want something knocked off... I've even had it where someone has said, "but you've got to knock something off!" Have I?! Really?! I usually reply with, why? Really does boil my blood sometimes.....

Yes I keep a stock book, but hand everything to them. It's great when I'm busy, as it frees me up to do what I do best, buying and selling cars! However, I'm certainly paying for the convenience, and during quieter times, I do question it. But it does give me peace of mind knowing it's being done correctly and properly, albeit I need to find a more cost effective service....

This is what I do, but they charge £390 per month for the privilege! I'm going to explore cheaper options!

I'm with you on the first two!!! Those staples are ridiculous!! Also the amount of shit you have to scrape off the windscreen gets tedious!! 1.) BCA Transport making the delivery charges up as they go along, then have no idea when a car will be with you. (They really are useless) 2.) Customers who tell you how wonderful your car is, they've fallen in love with it, but they need to bring their "mechanic" father in law to check it over, even thought it's clearly mint, only done 11k miles and has more main dealer services than the customer had, had hot dinners! Very odd!! (Happened today!) 3.) Lollipop sticks welded to the inner door pocket! 4.) Stupid stickers / badges that are difficult to remove! 5.) Customers I really could go on.......

Perhaps my stock isn't on there then... I'm not in Hook though, I'm just north of Peterborough?
