More like a photo taken after a speed dating gathering . Almost 50/50 gender divide. With a prize of two new cars for the first couple who get hitched :-))

So yes of course it is a scam! I've received 4 private Messages from people who have handed over money or were about to. One retired lady was relieved of £9200 only for the car to never arrive, Another young chap bought a Mini for 2500 and only then after speaking with me realised it may be a scam. The following day he got in contact with his bank to revoke the payment and then sent me this message: ''Got the truth from the garage next door. Basically it was a company, his friends company to be precise but he doesn't do that anymore. Some fraudsters have basically added a hyphen in between the words to set up a new website. The garage next door said he gets multiple calls and people who have actually paid like 10 grand coming to pick up cars but obviously there are no cars! The Lancashire police know about it but the website is still up! So it turns out that some fraud has found a legit registered car sales company who were up and running since 2009, had filed returns year on year, had a vat number and a registered address in Burnley but had recently ran into trouble and were no longer trading. They basically used there business name and business identity and put together a fake website with lots of nice low mileage desirable cars and underpriced them by at least £1500 if not double that in some cases. The cars photo'd are, or were at one stage legit cars for sale. If you run the reg. on HPI everything seems genuine. However if you examine the website further, terms and conditions are really too good to be true. There is no contact number (alarm bell) You cant view the cars first (siren) You must pay by bank transfer not credit card (fog horn) Also their story of the cars being financial institution repos, while plausible, doesn't fit it in todays car sales industry. Why not just send them all off to BCA where you are guaranteed £2000 more, no dealing with Joe Public and all sold within days. So the old saying still applies 'IF ITS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!'

Spot the error in this private advert
Scooby who replied to andymc1973's topic in General Dealer Chat
You’d think he’d remove the Aston Barclay auction sticker off the screen at the very least. If he can’t be arsed doing that bet he hasn’t even dipped it for oil. And a gallon of petrol doesn’t cost the earth either! The sight of those Micrawaves turnes my stomach Rattling engine, rattling bouncing suspension.....feeling sick already -
Anybody ?

A bit of feedback on my own ads please
Scooby who replied to Nick M.K.'s topic in General Dealer Chat
I think the photos are pretty much flawless. Also you have included a photo of yourself which is really quiet unusual and commendable. Top marks! -
Anybody heard of, or used this company: 'used cars lancs limited' ? Just stumbled upon their website, their cars are underpriced and too good to be true. If it's a scam how have they gotten away so long, seem to up and running quiet a while from my investigations. If not what am I missing? Surely someone on here knows something about them

I don't see the problem. Get a used sensor on eBay or from the breakers and if that doesn't fix it change the timing chain and sprockets. If it's the chain you'll know as it rattles like hell This is a two hr job at most, and really quiet straight forward. I've personally done many in the past and happen to have a new kit in a box I'll take £30 for. Easy fix either way

Same here, except I use the yellow in between, then after the blue I use a good quality wax such as autoglym high def or similar to seal it all in in case the car sits around for 6 months. Use Trizact 3000 to remove heavy scratches and use the new Rupes Bigfoot and Rupes pads. Know the capabilities of 3M as I've used it for sooo long so slow to change.

Got my account restricted for not collecting a car on time at Newport. Collection agent went tits up and left me in the lurch. It was more that a bidding restriction too, couldn't log in at all. Nice way to treat a good customer who buys one or two a week and always pays within 3 hrs of winning a car. Most of their cars are shit anyhow. And it's next impossible to get anyone on the phone to sort anything. However I do like their website, easy to navigate, wish BCA would copy it

Expected to see thread about No Brexit Deal
Scooby who replied to tradegirl's topic in General Dealer Chat
Brexit is a mess just gone totally out of hand. There really is no solution, except a second referendum where it's result is 'stay in' After over two years we are no nearer to a resolution and time is running out, getting an extension is only kicking the can down the road. There cannot be a hard border between North and Southern Ireland which is the real issue. This WILL not be allowed to happen. Any person in business should be taking this seriously, it WILL effect us all as the UK economy plunges into recession, multinational manufacturing and services relocate back inside the EU. It's happening already. In fact it will effect every one. We will need a green card to go on holidays to Spain and a temporary driving permit to drive within the EU. The Euro will cost us more when we holiday abroad and our retired parents living in Tererief will no longer be able to do so The list goes on and on and is far reaching and will effect every single sector from manufacturing, farming, haulage, services etc Nobody really understands the full effects of Brexit if it does happen, and I for one hope we never do! -
Pet hates...What really bugs you....
Scooby who replied to Arfur Dealy's topic in General Dealer Chat
People who ask you to hold the car, but don't leave a deposit, despite you insisting on one! 99.9% of the time you never see or hear from them again. The .1% that do, usually contact you after it's sold and are utterly gutted once they hear it's gone -
I'm a member and find it just wastes my time checking in every night to see what has been uploaded. Anything I do buy is generally well described but fetches waay too much. Last car I purchased was 24 of August only I never ended up with it! I was the highest bidder but didn't make reserve, 2 days later they called me and offered it to me at my highest bid. I agreed, wired them the payment and when I checked back to see if it had been received, I was told the car had been sold locally by another salesman!. It took half a dozen phone calls and over a month to get the payment back! I wasn't happy

Can't wait to hear how this pans out! Keep us updated please Tony

Their staff cannot differentiate 'retail ready" from 'trade' imo I have often called them regarding cars advertised on Autotrader, rarely have any service history, paintwork repairs always required. (many visible from the photos) They constantly monitor their prices on Autotrader so as to always be the cheapest. I have seen one car go through 2 price drops over a short period. Then waited a few more weeks till it dropped again and I bought it. Obviously it's working for them.

What would be your ideal auction purchase?
Scooby who replied to Nick M.K.'s topic in General Dealer Chat
A 2018 BMW 520 M sport with 20k for £5000 -
Had a customer in a few months ago for a campbelt change on an A3. I told him it would be a 3 hr job at the very least. I wasn't around when he came to collect it later that evening. When he returned to pay the following day he was able to tell me exactly how long it took us to do the job! Thing had been recording everything from start to finish. Mechanics need to be very careful, as not only is there footage being recorded but audio is also.

Are you ever HAPPY with your sales figures?
Scooby who replied to Nick M.K.'s topic in General Dealer Chat
I don't think you can compare profits month by month. I prefer to do it year on year. Every month is different, this month you're easily sourced high profit Focus might be flying out the door, next month it could be the hard to find white Golf with lower margins. You need to adapt quickly and never put all your eggs (models) in the one basket When stock is hard to source such as in January, are you not better offf with 500 profit than the 1000 you would have had in December, rather than an empty yard and nothing at all to sell. Every sale is a lesson, you are always learning, even after my 25 years in this trade I get a buzz when a happy customer drives away in a good car only to post a 5* review days/weeks later. I have sold cars with little or no profit which still made me feel good, I have also sold cars to not very nice people with descent profit I'd rather forget. I think we're never happy, always greedy and always looking for more -
No deal brexit! Houses down 35%,cars up or down??
Scooby who replied to friar's topic in General Dealer Chat
Don't fret, things will recover. Brexit is doomed. It won't happen! It is getting far too complicated and there are far too many idiots disagreeing, time is running out. Theresa May will step down after a vote of no confidence, there will be a second referendum and everything will go back to how it was. -
Dealer working from home vs Neighbour (problem)
Scooby who replied to premi-motor's topic in General Dealer Chat
I would personally visit each neighbour individually and put their mind at ease. Explain your intentions. Then turn up at the meetings so you know what's going on. If you stay away you don't know what lies he is spinning the neighbours. After that a tall cylinder of LPG left leaking through his bedroom window, should put everything to sleep. -
Think this post would be more relevant in the doctors-magazine forum. The carbon monoxide levels, as others have mentioned, are no worse than any inner city street on rush hour. Think the ongoing stress related to this job will ultimately kill us, far before the effects of overexposure to carbon monoxide.

You could buy an actual whole complete car for that

Homepage says Electric car subscriptions from £289 a month... Including fuel, insurance & servicing. Wondering what one might need the fuel for.......Petrol driven generator in the boot for charging perhaps?
-
Pre 2012 Auris are hideous looking, mirrors are mis-placed, gearstick on the dash. Nothing like the Corolla they replaced. Worst engine is the 1.33 petrol which wouldn't pull the socks off a dead man. Otherwise reliable and guaranteed not to return once sold.

Exporting a VAT Qualifying used car to Jersey
Scooby who replied to Nick M.K.'s topic in General Dealer Chat
Jersey IS part of UK where trade of goods is concerned If you organise the delivery to him then you do not charge him the vat in the first place. You zero rate it for vat but he must provide proof or address etc. If he organises collection from you, then you charge him vat, once he registers the car in Jersey and provides you with proof of this you then refund his VAT- 16 replies
