  1. I honestly can't remember the last card transaction I've done, it's all bank transfers now, still paying the rent on the machine though.....

Saved a fortune in payment fees though.

I know a few main agents that refuse cards nowadays.

I take my hat of to the people who make a living out of that stuff, I had a modern classic advertised last year and the amount of dreamers and time wasters i had enquiring about it made me lose the will to live with that car. I don't have the patience with this type of customer. Took the car of the adverts and it sits in the corner gathering dust, when my times up the kids will be able to sell it as a barn find.

:D they take a lot of pre viewing vetting from what my mate tells me.....has  messers still contacting him years after first contact without ever buying anything from him.....or anyone else fir that matter.

These tyre kickers are the very essence of BHMs 'nearly men'.

I once had a guy drive from Canterbury to Hastings on a Corvette.....after looking around it and, obviously not knowing jack shit about it (checking wheel arches for rust for f*ck sake) wanted me to take a picture of him sitting in it to send to his son....whom lived with with his mum.

No problem sir but, it will cost you £12k:rolleyes:

How on Earth are shit 80’s & 90’s Fiestas/Escorts/Novas etc. worth what they sell for?
They were fucking shite even when new - ideal examples of how a front drive car should NOT handle. I don’t imagine 30ish years will have improved their pisspoor handling & inability to transmit modest horsepower to the road.

Crazy isn't it, when ever I get the urge for some obsolete engineering I cast my mind back to my friends very well sorted Golf MK2 GTi he asked me to drop off for an MOT last August...f*cking dreadful:D

Not if you look at the results from Silverstone Auctions?

The classic market is always volatile, look at the boom in the late in late 80's, also certain cars are in vogue. IMHO the 80's stuff is over hyped and will drop, also the market for concours cars is not in vogue. For me 60's and 70's original cars is very strong, amongst a few other classics I have a P5B Coupe, original, 27K and been in my family since new, I get massive offers al the time for it, but its not for sale.

I think overall there will be a drop in used cars values, period, in 2021, but lets see Guy's.

Can only speak for a friend who runs a classic car business, been doing it 20 odd years, high end Fezzas etc and 20k plus gear plastic classics.

Not buying at all now, everything is sale or return and turning stuff away.

As usual, your mileage may varyB)

Good event this year with the online car dealer awards put on by the car dealer magazine team.

as good as could be for an online event.

managed to get a win in 51-100 not bad for a failed car washer things are looking up.

well done to all the dealers who were involved, and any new dealers worth an entry next  year it’s a huge help and boost to credibility.

I am hearing popular commercials (transit, sprinters) are going abroad ?

Main agent I deal with does commercials too, any vans, good, bad and the ugly are going off to Ireland....the buyer there can't get enough and isn't at all fussy and, I mean buys anything.

You’d think they have f.a. else to do. I wonder why they don’t catch up with a few rogue traders on Facebook who repeatedly sell cars masquerading as private sellers.

It wouldn’t be hard, would it? Surely just a phone call to arrange a meet with any cap-wearing likely lad who can’t string together a cohesive sentence & who has a history of regularly selling a few cars. Surely this can’t be beyond the wit of a local government employee?

I can suggest a few search words/phrases that may help identify such characters; gud, carnt, bran new tyers, m8, new breaks, and my favourite - cupple cwid (yes, really!)

:D.....they won't though will they, soft targets only, they really do, its why the serials offenders still are, well, serial offenders.

I may of mentioned before, when we were on the south coast, there was notorious (locally) private 'trader'......... Everything worse in a cliché pikey rolled into one very nasty package indeed....ran loads of Gumtree, Facebook and Ebay accounts mostly as private, very occasionally as trade.

Been doing it for years, still probably is, his idea of customer comebacks was just simple physical threats, bricks thru windows or good honest house burnings, I shit you not. His return rate was incredibly low...

....in all the years I knew him he actually rarely had proper grief with the 'ooforytees'....possibly due to putting one TS bod in a headlock and launching him out into the road....a 24 carat nasty piece of work, no idle threats there. Even the plod were reluctant to deal with him.

Don't get me wrong, this guy may of sounded like a simpleton but, he was as sharp as the lines on a MK1 Golf, knew his way around the judicial system, especially Travellers rights/ racial rights etc, great on IT, bloody good on the tools too. Apparently pulled the popsies like Pacific Class steam Locomotive too.

.....that said a very helpful guy if you were stuck at auction broken down, first one lying under a car in a puddle.....maybe just a hatred of whinging punters so, not totally without a certain flair:D

Fairly sure I had a Trading Standards bod trying to trip me up the other evening. Scruffy looking guy wanders onto my forecourt at 4.30, Im watching him on the cameras and he spends literally seconds vacantly looking at a few cars and approaches my office door. "Can I look in that silver one please?". Told him that's not allowed and he just wanders off. You know when you just get a gut feeling!

Myself and others have had similar experiences, they most definitely are doing the rounds. Better safe than sorryB)

Don't know who agreed to it in the first place on second hand goods , Oh we cant add vat to used goods so lets just take it on the traders profits instead , Yea great idea , Like to meet the fool who agreed that deal  for the industry

Car sales just keep giving when it comes to VAT.

The amount generated across one unit if it goes thru four pitches after the new car VAT, good earner.

It does seem odd that VAT included used anything I guess?

I reckon most months I have to tell some punter exactly that. Whenever I ask them why they are phoning me instead of the seller of the cheap one I’ve never yet had a satisfactory answer.

Same here, I've had the odd answer of "yes but I prefer yours"

"yes, and I'd prefer to live in Buckingham Palace but, don't have the money for that either"

We had a customer yesterday bought a van from us on click and collect, wanted to px couldn't describe properly and no detailed photos sent of his px so we offered him low without looking at it. He went to wbac who gave him more than we offered so he sold his px to them. He said they let him in the office to do paperwork etc. I mean surely he should not of been invited in the office, there business is no different to car sales. The big boys a breaking the law and getting away with it. Makes my p!ss boil.
