It’s those who email asking you to phone them that I don’t understand. As they’ve got time to email why don’t they just pick up the phone.

:D this always make me laugh and cringe, too tight to call, too tight for brake pads 12 months after buying a car.

  3. PT Cruisers, I used to sell a few of those but, watch out for post 3/06.....faded memories now.

Some bigger Zafpigs, small petrol Jags too, may as well go large on those.

That PSA diesel V6 is a thirsty old mill, hence the high CO2. I had a C6 took me by surprise on the rent, wonderful car though.

    What’s one of those?

There was a 2.0 turbo Zafira (not a VXR) that from memory snook in at 227.

SOME automatic SAAB convertibles (I assume you’d say 9-3s are ordinary) sneak in at a few more grams over the threshold.

Well bugger me sideways that's timely, I've a lady wanting to chop in a late 9-3 turbo cabby next week, thanks for the heads upB)

.......the same 72 hours as on buses, trains & supermarket shelves but they don’t count.

Yes, BHM I fully understand, C19 has brought about so many contradictions, many pointless, many worrying....I'm thinking 'ambulance chasers' here.

Is it just me but why is a deposited purchase from the premises a distance sale?
If the buyer has been allowed an unencumbered test drive & inspection prior to sale & only completes the deal after finding the vehicle is to their satisfaction how/why is that a distance sale?

It's mad isn't it, I can't get my head around this either?

As handovers can now be carried out contactless and vehicles sanitised quickly, this process does not have to create anymore risk than the traditional click and collect process, and in some respects it could be safer.

We agree it should not be abused, making it such an attractive offer that consumers are just turning up for a drive round the block to help break up the boredom of lockdown.

However, it is in the interest of a dealer to qualify any prospective buyer, especially as there is a cost in sanitising the car after each test drive.

All we’re suggesting is a buyer orders the vehicle by placing a deposit. They are then given a short period of time to decide whether they wish to cancel their order (a ‘post-sale’ test drive) before they pay in full.

The sale is still a distance sale, and the buyer will still have 14 days to cancel their order but it will give them confidence to pay in full after physically sitting in the vehicle.

Many thanks for the timely, prompt, concise reply Law Jaw.

I feel you missed one of my queries, possibly the most important?

Gov guidance is that C19 lasts 72 hours on hard surfaces, 3 days....cars are full of them.

So after a test drive and rejection can we as a responsable employer, ask our employees to enter the vehicle for any post sale remedial work such as cleaning, unless 3 days has passed?

And/or if an employee refuses to enter the car post test drive for remedial work where do we the employer stand?

    Many thanksB)

  6. As of 2pm yesterday, Norfolk Trading Standards advice by telecom, was no test drives, Click and Collect only, full payment upfront.

A large dealer group I deal with had same advice earlier in the day.

So is this 'deposit up front & test drive' by region, mis-information by some trading standards, or mis-information by Lawgistics? Someone is wrong.

I guess it boils down to would Lawgistics stand on it in court?

While others may welcome this 'news' I'm not one of them.

To the best of my knowledge, I've not lost any sales by no test drive and, from my perspective this latest advice means, to me, test drive and, still have14 days to reject so, why take a chance with both Trading Standards and, both ours and our customers health, can't see the benefit?

I think a £100 deposit and test drive simply encourages messers, needless travel and risk to car industry employees in what is an precedented public health lockdown, your mileage may vary.

Question: After a test drive whereby the customer decides not decide to purchase, what is advice as to treatment of car post test drive? Full valet with sanitising materials by a valater in full PPE, then allow to stand for 3 days. Simply allow to stand for 3 days with windows open? Whatever the treatment that car is off sale until treated.

I'm very probably in a small minority but, click and collect has been fantastic for me, easy deals. The thought of going back to walk-ins and, the usual day dreamers, nearly men and tyre kickers fills me with dread. Only I'm dealing with (within reason) genuine, focused and end of buying journey proper buyers.

Send them back to CAP & Glasses , tell them they were nearer at valuing cars years ago far more accurate than they are now

    very true!

Seriously, I reckon there will be a man on fleabay for those old books, you name it and people seem to collect it. Had a customer who used to collect Beer cans, no, no, no not what you are thinking, his wife reckoned he spent quite a few quid on some of them.

I'm reliably informed the one in Deptford and Norwood still do the same if required. Crazy really as surely people want to make sure their cars are at least safe.

Civilians want cheap and, afterall an MOT is just another way to make money for them garages;)

PS I think we all have an X Type rust story but, I've got two....nice cats but, I think Jaguar hired the same corrosion prevention engineer that retired from Alfa in the 70's..

Two Finance companies will indeed provide stock funding at 2% , BUT they want reciprocal finance business to an horrendous level . This is why some car supermarkets insist cars are sold on finance to customers , If the trader falls short of selling finance then the 2% becomes nearer 8% and higher , Pure con selling .

There is also the added bonus for BCA that if funders send the transporter in and collect their cars back from a dealer, BCA get to sell the cars all over again to someone else, most likely on stocking finance again. It’s a win win for them.

There is so much cheap money about and so few places to make a good yield that investors are fighting over these start up companies and as you say once floated the real value of the company will become apparent, you just have to look at  a floatation like Aston Martin to see how thing’s can go very wrong.

Organic growth for me too, take your time and build up a nice stock/pot of money that you have complete control over.

I’m not a FB user as such, I just opened an account so that I could place adverts. Auto.social upload onto FB from my website, but if I were to start again I think I’d be tempted to just do the adverts myself.

I do well out of FB, I only advertise on there & ebaymotorspro. At the moment I make more sales from FB than eBay. Just about all of my pricier stock (up to 7K) sells courtesy of FB - ebay is almost dead, although I should add I've only got a handful of cars because I can’t get caught up - as I advertise they sell quickly at the moment.

What are they charging nowadays BHM?.... last time I ventured to the dark side I was paying £50 a month from my admittedly poor memory?
