  1. Does anyone know anything about this. I have been asked to take one in but I don't know anything about them. Are they leased or something similar and how would I go about finding out Cheers
  2. The deposits were indeed more than £100. I feel like my neck is on the chopping block. I could live with the odd one slipping through the net very occasionally but 7 in one month, FFS. He just needs to slow down and check the cards properly before he sticks them in the bloody machine.
  3. We have a strict policy of not accepting them with no exceptions. Not because of fees but due to section 75. When I checked last months statement I find that my salesman has managed to take 7 deposits on a credit card and 6 on a debit. Not Happy!!
  4. If he wants to reject it he has to tell you why! I am presuming a miss fire. You need to know the facts before you can really move forward with him. Tell him to provide some evidence of the fault, garage report etc and you can go from there but personally i wouldn't lose any sleep over him. He's bought a 15 year old banger which is probably close to end of life
  5. Whats actually wrong with it ? It's going to have to be something pretty serious if he's going to try rejecting a 15 year old car
  6. The MOT history is now a major ballache. We get around it to a degree by using display plates,
  7. Likewise, I find most people pleasant enough. You do come across some truly horrible people but thankfully they are in the minority. The one thing that bugs me the most about people is how unrealistic they are when looking at an older car. Simply not prepared to accept normal wear and tear, champagne taste and all that
  8. We sent one to BBA reman a couple of years ago and it came back the same as before. We sent it back and they had another look at it but told us it was fixed but it wasn't, I think we gave them £350 if I remember correctly, No refund
  9. We use several local workshops for our PDi's and both of them hate using the Lawgistics ones, I can't believe anybody actually works their way through that lot no matter how thorough you are, the car would be in the workshop for hours. We had to switch over to some other ones which are still pretty comprehensive buy much simpler. Normally takes them about 30 mins if they are not doing a service at the same time
  10. I remember that pitch well, that was very much my manor in the early eighties, virtually opposite The Star pub if it's the one I'm thinking of. Is it still there?. CMA and later Manheim at Mitcham was one of my main auctions, I was forever shuttling stuff between there and Dingwalls in Beddington Farm Road. Happy days
  11. I remember Brentford. I used to go there occasionally in the mid to late 80s when I first started working with my father. What I most remember is what a ball ache it was to get there from from Croydon. Has anyone mentioned Wandsworth Bridge Auction yet? Is it still there?
  12. I can't see how you could get away with it when it's written into the contract that both you and the customer have signed. DSR's would'nt apply in this case because the guy was here in the showroom when he bought it.
  13. Blackwater is the closest but there are no Taxi's there. If you go to Fleet there are loads of Taxi's outside and the fare runs around a tenner.
  14. Wow, we had the exact same thing happen today. The warranties that we sell are not insurance backed and are not a regulated product therefore no cooling off period. Today we get a call from a guy who we sold to 10 days ago saying that in the back of the booklet it says he has 14 days to change his mind and he would like to cancel. Sure enough he was absolutely correct and we had noticed it before. I called the warranty company (VGS) and they told me that the product is indeed a non regulated product however they have decided to include it in the terms due to all the treating customers fairly bollox being banded about these days. Aparently it has only been in effect with VGS since 1 January. In short they are trying to cover their arse. AS its there in the terms and conditions in black and white I don't think we have a leg to stand on and will have to refund him This job gets harder and harder by the day
  15. This is not a bad way to be, I wish I could turn the other cheek sometimes but I just can't help myself. Sooner or later I just have to open up with both barrels. I'm ashamed to say that most of my negative google reviews have been about how rude i have been to the peasants. After 30 years I'm not going to change, I just can't be dealing with the vermin for much longer. Retirement beckons!
  16. I was doing this on a fairly decent scale between about 2001 and 2006. I was bringing in mainly 4x4 stuff such as Pajero's and Toyota Surf' etc and it was very lucrative for a while. I knocked it on the head when the exchange rate went south and the Russians started pushing the price of the 4X4 stuff through the roof. I made a couple of trips over there and found myself an agent who took me around the auctions and bought for me when I was here. I do see a few people still at it but seemingly on a much smaller scale with mainly MPV and camper type stuff and a few sporty bits. Remember for anything under 10 years old you will have to put it through an IVA test or an SVA as it was back then and this can be a bit of a ball ache. There are plenty of agents/buyers over there and personally I would suggest getting yourself on a plane and going over to see whats's going on, its a fascinating place.
  17. Looks good, not easy to find a nice unit like that around these parts. If I could find something similar around here I would be sorely tempted to give up my forecourt!
  18. XC90 boxes are a bit of a sore point for me at the moment. I currently have two of them that are knackered and I can't find anyone who can sort them out for less than £2K. One bought in auction and the other dropped on my toes in px. Both cars have less than 80K on them as well. I have decided that they simply can't be bought in auction now as even a mechanical report would not have shown up these faults. Just too risky
  19. I might be into this, likewise reg number and mileage please
  20. We also get our card payments land in the account the following business day however they don't show as cleared funds for 3 days. Fortunately I seem to have a facility with our bank where they will pay cheques against uncleared funds which is very useful. We use Global payments and bank with HSBC who used to own Global so that may have something to do with it. I was actually going to change card handlers last year because you can get much better deals but they all took three days to put the funds into our account so we stayed with Global.
  21. Had one go out on the 1st which was carried over from last month but otherwise absolutely dead which it has been since beginning of October. A bit worrying to be honest because the year had been fairly good up to that point. October and November numbers were at about 50% off where they were earlier in the year. The few people that I am seeing are a complete waste of time with nobody seemingly ready to deal.
  22. I found my cars were on there, they were picking up a feed from Spidersnet that I wasn't aware of and most of mine were showing as overpriced. I called Spidersnet and told them to stop sending them over immediately. Absolute joke
  23. I had an interesting experience with my trade plates last month. I was on the way to an MOT test in a pick up truck, the rear plate was obscured by the trade plate with the front one on top of the dash. The front plate was taped over which we had been doing since DVLA suggested it on their question and answer session earlier in the year. I pulled in to a petrol station and was at the pump just about to put fuel in when an unmarked police car screeched to a halt in front of me and 2 burly plain clothes coppers jumped out and grabbed me. I found myself in handcuffs within seconds!. They had not seen the front trade plate. They had seen me pull onto the forecourt with the taped up plate and thought I was attempting to steal fuel and drive off. Luckily when I pointed out that my credit card was in the pay at the pump card reader and that would perhaps not make me the best fuel thief around that the penny dropped and I was released. I had a short "chat" with them regarding the use of trade plates and the upshot of this was that we should definately NOT be covering up plates with tape. They were sympathetic about how we should cover the front plate with the trade plate but did not have an answer other than don't tape over it. i have not been taping them up since.
  24. No, you can't buy it outright anymore like we did 11 years ago. It is now a monthly subscription and the latest 2014 version is cloud based so nothing to install on your PC. I suggested that as we actually paid for it up front maybe we could carry on using it without support but was told no way, they can disable it over the web and that is what they will do if we don't want to continue with them. The software makes us call them every year for a new license code anyway so I think we are stuffed. The guy I spoke to in customer services was adamant that there was no room for negotiation and that a small independent like ourselves will pay exactly the same as a large main dealer. I think their attitude sucks quite frankly. I suspect that as you have a very early version that you can simply carry on using it for as long as you please and i guess they haven't written to you asking for more money which makes me even more angry. I think we are on version 9.something which obviously has a few things built into it to lock it down if they wish. Have you ever heard from them since you bought it ?
