I could be talking out of my arse but I reckon if you’ve got a self employed work mentality & ethic you’re in with half a chance (the other half’s the cars) but anyone with a PAYE mentality is fucked from the off buying/selling cars.

Grafters will prosper in anything.    The ones with a bit of common sense who just get on and get shit done always do.

That’ll be the chap who had a website & took an interest in the CRA before he’d even bought one car

First & foremost this job’s about cars, not fucking about with website graphics when you’ve got a handful of cars.

Lovely website but the bit on it that should have cars listed was a bit lacking

  3. Its true. Wasn't sarcastic but a well known character on here spent way to long thinking, getting his hand held and couldn'tactually do the basics.

This is a great place for advice but a lot of voices can sometimes make it hard to know what to do.  You buy cheap, sell with profit and polish profit into cars, etc find a niche make a run of it etc and get a good bit going.   This forum is then good when looking for advice on which warranty company to get, how to deal with your first complaint ( daunting I remember mine and shit it at the threat of them taking me to court ) and loads of good advice. Just got to get going.

I wouldn't bother with Copart shit either just buy straight motors.   TBH if I lost my lot and started again I would buy off gumtree and marketplace from idiots who can't take pics or read and write, clean them ensure basically safe and then just sell with limited comebacks and build up again as quick as I could living off bare minimum. Sacrifice, graft and an eye on where you want to be in a few years works.

    Good luck. Get going.

I bought a load from Ebay, self cling ones.

Since then, I have gone appointment only so there is no need for price hangers, window stickers et al.

I hate price boards. I adjust prices 3/4 times a week up and down and can't keep up adjusting them.

Isn’t schmee  the heir to the burton tailoring business?

i was thinking more of tgetv, Tom exton. Who apart from having a well paid city job has a large car collection that is mostly on finance.

Its not burtons biscuits as I know he went nuts at someone that kept asking and commenting about it

Just out of curiosity. Who are the guys that lend these UK car youtubers huge amounts to buy super cars. Without naming names. One or two guys on YouTube have sufficient ‘family money’ to back up any debt. But there’s at least one ‘working’ guy with a garage full of exotic cars all on finance. I don’t know how he sleeps at night? Are those specialist lenders sleeping easy too?

Do you know how much they make off youtube?

Shmee150 posts on pistonheads and has been quite open with revenue and even a fairly modest subscriber base with regular contents and adverts brings in quite a lot of money. It was considerably more  than I ever expected.

  7. Imagine being a private and so stupid to think you are getting a better deal at BCA than just walking into a dealer and buying. My fees are bad enough on platinum the private ones are horrendous.

I've never bought more cars privately / trade to trade facebook the amount of money ive saved in fees is unbeliavable. For every ten cars its about £4k  its a lot of money saved.

  8. Personally not offering test drives. Our insurance cost for unaccompanied was very high.

I am simply not comfortable with letting people loose in high power vehicles or nice well prepped cars alone.  The standard of driving ive seen before on accompanied test drives is  low, unknown roads, unknown car etc.   I feel the risk of theft is higher. I am aware I could go on a test drive accompanied and have a knife pulled out on me but I think the chances for someone not to return in an unaccompanied demo are quite high.  Plus crash damage aswell.

We will continue to offer the chance to buy the car and pay for it and then once paid for and on customers insurance they can do our normal test route before confirming they are happy. If they are instant money back.

Lack of test drives really hasn't been a deal breaker and most actual buyers are completely fine. I get the impression the ones hell bent on it want to drive a few others anyway.

  10. Good idea - I would get a few people who are outdoors'y via instagram and offer them a free weekend / midweek deal in exchange for promotion like maybe SAS who Dares contestants or such like ( even better if the celeb version will do for free) and the bookings will fly in.

Maybe offer a delivery and collection of camper nationwide (outsourced and chargeable) as Justin shows it put him off having to go on a mission just to get it.

Won't make you millions but will do alright out of it, best of luck with it.

  11. It’s a quarter off my bill at a time when I’m doing good.
nearly everything is selling via AT at the moment (free) and to get it for less is very much welcome whilst everything builds back up.

I think may might be a record breaking month for us, in March I was a bit worried if we would actually sell a car.

I've only dealt with NextGear and nothing like that amount of money. However, they've been brilliant thus far. No margin payments, cars automatically extended for 60 days when they become due, no audit fees, just the interest which they even offered to defer (I didn't). No idea on BCA but I've heard less positive things about them. My rep's view is that if they put everyone out of business then they'll have zero customer base afterwards so it is self defeating. Furthermore they'll have loads of cars to dispose of they don't want.

To be honest I'm small fry and probably not their top priority and if I really had to could probably clear it but nonetheless they've been much better than I expected.
