  2. This is someone who has seen and inspected the car prior to deciding to buy it.

I wouldn’t accept this back. Utter cheeky bastard thinking they can just use the car for the 14 days after telling you they don’t want it.

  4. Videos / Pics are all done off iphone and samsung phone.   Go pro for the video test drives with a mount the other stuff is just handheld.

Can't get better than the cameras on iphone and samsung etc these days plus all the websites compress them down so not much point.

  5. Hi Mate,

Hope you are good. I've often struggled with E class coupes. I think they are a decent car and quite good value but problem is they just aren't hugely desirable.

Your pictures could be a lot better. Silver is hard work but I would put some effort in. See on your pics the bumpers look like its a different colour. They all do on silver but try to hide it.

Also the chrome window surrounds really could be better cleaned up so they don't look all TFR marked. A bit of peek polish. Do some pics with windows up, windows down.   Try and find somewhere better for the pics than the side of the road just a nice open car park or something.

When a buyer / prospective buyer is online they have 100s / 1000s to look at don't they so you have to get the first image to be what I think of as a thumb stopper. A really good eye catching shot that makes them stop what they are doing and click into your car.

If its not gone after 30 daysI would probably chuck some window tint on it and then black or grey wheels and maybe even a cheap ebay rear lip spoiler and put the price up 500 just to cover cost and then get it gone, but then again 99% of my stock looks like that.

I can't stress enough that video sells cars and is the best selling tool. That car will look miles better with a video. Probably 75% of the other cars you are up against won't have a video so you will automatically be better and you can show the various bits and pieces working.

A couple of vids/ pics of e class coupes done by the lad we have doing them if it gives inspiration.

Thank you to everyone who has responded.

It is weird how we are all in the same trade yet we all have different experiences. I am often asked by a potential buyer to see the V5 before they commit to buy. In the past I have never given it a moment's thought and have let them examine it. Not any more.

Incidentally, I spoke to Action Fraud regarding this incident. The bod I spoke to told me that most weeks they see about one hundred and fifty cases of this happening. He said it is unusual to see it happen to a motor trader, almost all cases are private people who have their cars advertised on Autotrader or ebay. That would make sense because even if it did happen to a trader he wouldn't know about it because it is rare for the car to be registered to him so he would not receive a confirmation letter. He also told me that DVLA are well aware of this flaw in the online system, it being open to this type of fraudulent behaviour, but they are not particularly bothered by it. If the cloned car is taxed they are receiving double bubble for one VRM.

One other problem I foresee is when it is eventually sorted and I have sold the car, my customer might get some grief due to the behaviour of the driver of the cloned car. It is possible my customer will receive parking or speeding fines through the post , get fed up with it, come back compaining to me and ask for a refund.

I suppose I can't complain. Considering how long I have been trading, I was probably on borrowed time before I had a customer pull a fast one.

Could buy and sell a car with a drug marker, firearms marker or anything anyway mate and be non the wiser til you or the customers pulled out at the side of the road. Not much you can do.

We've had the occassional customer want to look at the V5. Never thought about the document number.

Lack of interest from the police is typical. Sick to death of them.  I was test driving a customer's car when I was hit from the side by a LHD Bulgarian registered car. Almost outside the police station!  Driver confessed he was uninsured. I photographed everything including his Bulgarian licence. I found out he was living less than a mile from police station. I went into the station with all this information.  As God is my witness the desk officer looks at me and says 'Well? What would you like us to do about it?'...  F'kin disgusting. No action taken.

Last year our metal security gates broken open and attempted theft of a Focus ST via OBD port. I'd disabled it so they didn't get away. We have security lighting and everything captured on high-def colour CCTV - inc. reg. number of their van. Police not even interested in CCTV - just gave a crime number.

Good way to get them out now just offer a test drive with a customer and they will descend upon you in minutes.

When online buying was introduced I tried to argue with BCA that excessive odours should be part of the description. As I recall they would not correspond about it and I got the usual ‘ thank you for your feedback ‘ reply. No matter what you do,even replacing the trim, but bad smells always come back. You have to find the best punter, like a farmer.

    Manheim do declare it.

For odours I find there is no easy or cheat way.  You have to just use hot water and interior cleaner like brisk  and wash every inch of the interior you can find including roof lining. Go over it again for good measure. Then chuck a fogger or bomb into it.  Luckily  not something we get to often.

PLUS two hours getting the Kuga Idiot a DEAL on Mallard 's worm subterranean finance tier to which she was oh soooo pleased she could have it , what a waste of space .

I say it and normally i stick to it , NO SUBRIME Deals , but every now and again i break my own rules

Oh well . be another one along soon

Everytime I break my own rules and deal with an external finance company thinking it will be easy I regret it fairly promptly.

Clocking is a strong claim to make without any substantiation. However almost the only cars the ‘mileage adjustment trade’ nowadays work on are newish cars by punters well over their pisspoor annual mileage allowance that they signed up to.

I think any of us that buy ex lease stuff are buying clocked cars. Its just facts.

We had one from BCA and the dickheads had left the mileage blocked in the glovebox. How thick can you get.

It will all depend on the customer type, like many dealers I've had customers buy unseen purely from video, images, reviews etc, they either paid in full and collected or had the cars delivered ( And pay to have them delivered!).

Not all customers are will do this as some NEED to see, touch, and they simply will not buy but we have to think there are many that will buy, after all where ever they go they won't have a choice as this is the ONLY way to buy.

Or take a deposit and hold the car until after lockdown ( when ever that may be!) last time I had about 6 customers who did that and waited until they could see/collect.ALL collected and had paid in full prior to collection.

February is a long time for them to wait Umesh  My prediction is in.

Has anyone done any deals today on click and collect or deliver. Its going to be a hard one to convince buyers to buy.

We have great reviews on Google and auto trader, an excellent package before handover with a comprehensive warranty but I think its still going to be tough unless joe public get desperate.

Out of interest why do you think it  will be tough?

I might be old but I am not bitter and I am not a bastard. If you had a long established business with a lot of footfall and you were forced to close up and furlough staff for 3 months you might be of the same opinion. What makes it worse is that there has been repeat customers bringing in stuff to repair and sort out that they have bought from doorsteppers during lockdown because our guys were closed.

Sit around moaning about it or get on with it. It is what it is and nothing anyone can do. Just another miserable, doom and gloom post. In fact every single thread or posting you find yourself inclined to comment upon on this forum seems to have a negative spin on it. Its incredibly fucking boring and if you can't see it doesn't really do the car dealer forum community any good then you truly are deluded.   Very boring, very dull and ruining what used to be quite a valuable resource.

Maybe he was referring to the doorsteppers. They appeared to profit when flouting the rules last lock down when my old pitch was forced to close for 3 months !

You are a bitter old bastard.
