Flock the dash and then put some stripes on the car and a big wing.

I hit that back end of first quarter. Was selling cars at the bar from livechat on my Italian holiday's.....
-
I used it for a bit and it went really downhill. Got rid of it. They put me on a free trial not so long back and I have sold a few cars from it but not enough to make me want to actually pay for it. Be surprised if Motors is still here in 6 months.

Tell you what the dispute I had with the one on CC went far more in my favour than the 3 refunds I have given on finance deals due to utter nonsense. Don't lose out on sales. Put the minimum obstacles in the way of selling cars.
-
I know a dealer who used to send out envelopes with a slit in the bottom of them claiming that he had posted service invoices / books /spare key etc. Spare keys do only tend to get mentioned after the sale to be fair. Not really much of an issue.

With panroof, nav and 19's they are worth a fair whack. Hardly any out there with options full stop. All generally basic spec. So so when it comes to selling them had a couple in stock for a while here now, the rest have been in and out. Never really know how its going to go.

I take credit cars. If you sell decent cars and you look after folk you don't have anything to worry about. We have only ever had one CC issue and that was when a card provider got in touch to ask for some further info regarding a Rav4 which had developed a fault. Engine had failed big time after 4/5 months iirc and it was an older Rav. The owner of the rav never even got in touch with us only his CC company. They actually completely found in our favour and no action was taken. I will continue to take CC payments and will continue to sleep easy.

Thats a great price. Where in the county are you? Can you text me postcode. ( The one in the advert Oh that's hours away I will leave it.

Banger PX cars mate. Keep them the ones that are like £100 that run and drive. Leave 1 at bodyshop. Leave 1 at MOT. Just always swap them around so somethings always knocking about. Makes life so much easier.

I've bought some cracking bits of stock and done ok over the past couple of weeks with cars grabbed at good prices, and actually back and sold. Bought 3 grade 3's from Manheim, that I can't see why they would not be grade 1 as all they want is 4 wheels refurbed plus a couple of minor touch up jobs between the lot. Ever notice they get a newbie doing the surechecks and every single report has the same thing written up on it? At a Newcastle Manheim sale in the last week or so nearly every report said brakes spongy.....I think the guy might have stood in a puddle as 3 were bought and driven back fine

Any business has overheads. Part of running a business must include planning and accounting for the poor or quiet times and not living hand to mouth. We all need a contingency. I used to sail very, very close to the wind with leaving nothing back as I always used to just plough it back into stock, I sleep much easier having enough back to last 3 months without selling a single car as a reserve. I was mental when I first started looking back.

What is the best automotive website provider?
Rory RSC replied to Megan's topic in General Dealer Chat
With a lot of bespoke sites, I could be wrong. You have to advertise on the website, then ebay, then autotrader, then motors etc etc. Or as a minimum advertise to website, then autotrader and let autotrader feed to others. With a managed site like a click dealer site you put one advert up on your website then it feeds to all of your platforms which is a bit easier going. Depends on the numbers. To be honest a pro looking site is your shop window and in this game website cost is quite low down compared to other bills. A good and easy to use site will make a big difference. -
Take deposits on card up to say £500 quid. Bacs the rest or charge a 1% / 2% fee to cover costs in the short term. The main problem I have with this is getting a transfer is fine if they leave a deposit today and want to come back at the weekend but when all your cars are ready to drive away today you just have to suck it up. We are not going to be able to pass on any fees from next year either.

What is the best automotive website provider?
Rory RSC replied to Megan's topic in General Dealer Chat
Bespoke has a major draw back without stock feeds and integration. Click dealer are very, very good value for money with a superb helpful and friendly team. Some of the best in the business who always do what they say they will. -
Its not on bank transfers as its clear where its come from. Its cash transactions it applies to. IE suitcase of money. So the Gov can keep tabs on it.

Bogger 90's? Never are they worth anything are they
-
I learned that the hard way. Used to leave me in a right bad mood if I went back or hung around for them just to not show up or turn up and then say they had more to look at quite late in an evening. They genuinely did not car if I had done a long day so I just avoid that situation now. If we have a deposit we will stay back, if not come during the 8am -7pm beyond reasonable hours we open plus we are here 7 days.
-
Tell them to call when setting off is important. The car is for sale until it is sold and has a decent deposit on it . Never cancel other viewings because you have someone else who has called up about it, they can all turn up and view. Whats with people who call up about a car at 08:30/9am Monday morning to ask if such and such car is available. Seeming really eager. So what time will you be out to see it then? Oh probably Saturday or Sunday..... Whats the point....

20 for the month so far with about 45 stock. We have not done anything different the weekend just went insanely busy. I tried to ensure my cars all had vids, adverts had enough correct info and the pictures were all looking good. Stayed open and back a bit later to ensure a few deals got completed.

CDX open day 16th October Manchester
Rory RSC replied to Dealer research's topic in General Dealer Chat
Is the open day not more for suppliers or exhibitors to see what they would get out of the actual main event, rather than dealers? -
I always get them to go first. Always have and will continue. Seen an interesting thread on Pistonheads forum where a couple of car dealers ( Franchise) suggested they always go first and its bad form to let the customer suggest what they want.
-
Do you give a value first or do you let the customer tell you what they would like for it first?

Great post from this chap.
