  1. Great thread Arfur. I had a personal injury claim business for a bit and used to make good money from this and just saved and saved. Ended up buying a few cars to use for the non fault car hire process. Used to buy them in and sell them again after hire period privately. Learned a lot doing this. A lot of regulation changed in the accident claim business and the earnings were reduced or capped I should say so I ended up buying a couple of hand car washes which did quite well for a while. I used to find the odd person who usually had the £10 mini valet asking about a £50 full valet and they were going to be taking the car to we buy any car etc so would just offer them around the same money there and then and save them a trip. Had the space for it but there was no prep being done other than a quick wash etc. After that I had some big problems with one car wash site so got rid of that business and chucked all my money into starting selling cars properly from the other site. Keys in a JD sports bag dealing customers and signing them up from the boot of a car advertising on the Pay as you go Autotrader slots. Specialised in first time cars for new drivers. Benji boy take note here - I l literally used to spend every waking hour trawling private adverts for the odd mistakenly low priced advert, badly written adverts and would act fast and just get a move on to go and buy them. Was forever driving up to Scotland and buying Corsas with aftermarket alloys taking the mods off sell the mods for money and the standard cars for a higher price. Going full time at the car sales business completely turned my life around. Still love coming to work 7 days a week despite the ups and downs. Can't beat the buzz of a quick deal with good profit and the part exchange chain.
  2. Why should you have to fight? The amount of times that just left me annoyed for the next punter that walked in or frustrated speaking to someone in the claims department who did not give AF. And the line that used to really annoy me when having something rejected was when they made out I should be grateful that they had paid out a previous claim as goodwill.....its my money in the account FFS. Warrantywise are quite simply the worst company I have ever dealt with in the motor trade.
  3. Couldn't care less if its a £999 car or a £30k car profits profit. Always retail the PX's that are safe to do so. Some of my biggest profits come from them.
  4. Mark - Good move and I like the way you are standing by your customers I am the same. We used to use Warrantywise and it was a constant battle getting claims paid out for us and for our customers. The service was just terrible. Spent thousands with them and then thousands again fixing stuff they didn't cover. After this we switched to a company that did the admin and managed our own fund. Its nice as it puts a bit of distance between you and the customer and if its something not covered they call you and say do you want to do it and then they tell the customer dealers looked after you and stepped in which helps, not that you get a thank you. Never looked back and sent you a PM with the name and contact number for the company now. We were always in profit and had a run of big bills and cars that went wrong at one point and it was really nice to have the funds in the pot to fall back on.
  5. Couldn't agree more I detest small first time cars.
  6. I like it when people call and ask questions about the car and I literally open the advert and read it back to them. Not just you Simon I have had an absolute run of idiotic enquiries and viewings lately. Just as I was losing the will to live Sunday just gone was a really pleasant day with 4 really nice sets of people all actually buying who were actually nice to chat to and spend time with.
  7. Consistently selling 40-50 a month this year. I probably discount maybe 5 total sales in a month if that. Just don't need to, they are priced well anyway.
  8. I find dickheads tend to come out every day of the week irrespective of it being a Sunday. Last couple of weeks has been non stop dealing with idiots.
  9. That really pisses me off. Why the hell are you here looking at cars when you have not done this already you prat.
  10. You need thick skin in this job. Is it everyone else that's wrong? Or are you missing the continued good and FREE advice several of us wish we had when starting out. Take a step back, actually process whats being suggested and get out buy a car sell it and then ask for advice when you have a consumer rights issue. This job is for doers not thinkers.
  11. A local company who have been copying every last thing I do gave themselves a very grand name and then starting stocking really basic cars, I thought the same
  12. 3 Stage pearls are not that much more expensive. Its a fraction more. You just need to find somewhere to send regular work to and build up a relationship. There are good trade painters everywhere but they don't advertise its all word of mouth and they are all in demand. Plenty of bad quiet ones that can fit you in quickly.
  13. Somewhere on his yacht selling cars from his smart phone his boss rings and tells him to get back to work
  14. Sometimes takes a while for HPI to be updated pretty common. What auction site?
  15. More activity here by far. Plus that Astra saga was filled with more drama than Hollyoaks
  16. No problem selling them mate its the not seeing them back again that's the problem. People love them.
  17. Best full english at Mansfield manheim hands down. Locally sourced oraganic food there, shame I don't get to go much as it must be one of the most expensive auctions in the land. Kinross auction had the best steak pie going. Manheim Shotts the coldest bleakest windiest auction house a good squaure sausage and lentil soup on a Tuesday to keep me going. No wonder since I switched to buying online I have literally lost about 5 stone
  18. Colin used to come in and do it to us here with anything VXR. Just used to say cars are there have a look around give us a shout when you need something. Just leave them to it.
  19. not at all, how else are you meant to get in touch with them. Find my stock on their site. Send an enquiry yourself just pop test / CD forum or something into the details and watch what happens. Have to have a play around with these platforms. Their retargeting is simply outstanding. Class leading.
  20. Took my biggest ever hit on a 55 plate disco. Never again.
  21. Again for us its the only other platform that has made any dent on Autotraders enquiries and actually seems to be working at a fraction of the cost. Personal opinion of all the platforms its the one that has the biggest chance of taking the top spot over the next few years.
  22. You can usually buy one individual sensor from euro car parts and that gets them working again. Its usually one rather than all or a brittle wire. Easy fix on most cars. Wouldn't bother on a cheapo PX but anything over £1500 / 2000 its only around £25.00 or so to get them sorted.
  23. You need a website for credibility. Its the modern day pitch. Things aren't like they used to be and never will be again. Reviews are good also, get customers to start leaving them now and set up a social media page. Best of luck to you.
  24. I send one way texts from our DMS so they cant reply but gives good progress. Recently started sending them out the day before or day of collection IE Just to confirm Car X is ready for 1pm look forward to seeing you then.
