Good programme enjoyed it especially the funny quotes like where do you put the coins in the drive as you pay bit One of them hasn't got the time to come on here if hes doing a 12 hour day with work and travelling ,he's mad of course, but then hes young and we all thought we could change the world in our under 30's -
Thanks for the heads up,i too am waiting for a receipt, you would think we could type our plates in and under model put trade plates on the dvla site until confirmation comes through wouldnt you? Just to remind anyone who may not be aware as ive met a few traders who havent, make sure you log your plates on to the MID

I run my place from an industrial estate so although its private property owned by my landlord the public have access to the large car park as there's also a cafe so its classed as public access, I had a car clamped by dvla outsource before christmas as it was parked "in their words" on public access land and obviously being an in trade car was neither taxed or sorned, I argued that it was in a designated area agreed with my landlord for car sales as its next to the main road but on land where public drive to access the cafe (hope you are all still with me) anyway by proving my lease to the clamping team i had my car unclamped and assured it wouldn't be clamped in future, Just a heads up to any full time motor trader as we are the only group of people allowed to park on public access car parking if we have our territory marked out on a lease or map or deeds and not need the car to be taxed/sorned so there are some gains for us

How are the DVLA update times for car tax ?
It's me replied to Wheelerdealer1's topic in General Dealer Chat
If you think about it and the choices we now have its pretty straight forward Car in trade cant be taxed realisatically so you run it on trade plates so as to trade within the law Car you run as a daily user is in your name and an agreed value with insurer which can be more than the standard trade payout only (i use this specifically for my car transporter) Trade plates are on the mid so cover you in anything you are driving but in my case it doesnt cover left hand drive super cars or kit cars to get a better rate I found out many years ago i cant drive the wives car on a motor trade policy as its insured in her name so cant go on my trade policy too as then it would be insured twice so im a named driver on her personel policy, The only time this could change was is if i wasnr a named driver on her policy but wanted take it off her to do trade work like repair or say taking it for an mot Cars in trade and smoked around was always a grey area and used and abused by many, so although it was a nice perk to take something home with lots of petrol or a bit different i must now be getting to an age where it honestly doesn't bother me that its not feasable any more comments observations most welcome sb -

Hi long time lurker thought i would give some input here MY motor trade insurance specifies that any car i use must be registered to me so taxing a car on a standing order but not sending the log book off would mean i would be uninsured, this was in my updated terms this year (2014) for the first time -
Been really quiet in november and december but its always been like that, you should bag some sales in january but certainly customers are more picky these days than ever before,my secret is to get your cars mint, mint and keep them mint, mint, this way the folded arms syndrome of the wife of a potential buyer cant find a fault so the car gets bought rather than a new settee, or the husband cant fault it to his wife also, oh and ignore derogatory remarks no matter how hard they are remember you want the sale even though you wouldnt want the customer as a friend, the good days have gone where there was another bum for every seat goodas luckas, sb

Be careful stepping into trade road risk only as many wont even insure your own vehicle so you can end up with 2 policies and very poor cover, read the small print on everything before committing,be extra careful of signing up over the phone as these companies are the worse. As said you need trade insurance or a simple accident could cause you big, gone are the days of ducking and diving your way through with even something as simple as daily insurance, sorry

Trade plates – have you been caught out and fined?
It's me replied to a topic in General Dealer Chat
Never been stopped for trade plate contravention but have to say this thread has me worried, ive tried plates on number plates plates off plates in the blank space and plates in the windows in my time but finally arrived at front plate in the windscreen and rear plate always dangled with the rubber holder off the rear wiper,im now concerned this isnt acceptable so im going to start screwing plates on plates again against my better wishes,my plates by the way should be in a museum as i have an original set of ali ones that look like they did a stint in vietnam -

hi,long time lurker thought i would join as one of my new year resolutions, To address your query my trade insurance went up 50% in may last year,i went through various large and small organisations to get a better quote but came to the conclusion they run a cartel, ive never made a claim ,been in the motor trade 30 years and have a clean licence, everyone ive spoken to in the trade since my increase also confirm premiums have increased without exception to beyond what was considered reasonable,i put it down to the fact some large insurers withdrew from this market like aviva this last year?
