The thing that constantly annoys me, is how every customer assumes you will knock money off the price, like it's a given!

Don't get me wrong, I know everyone wants to feel like they've had a bit of a deal, but sometimes, when a car is perfect, you've just serviced and mot'd it, it's got 2 keys etc, but they still want something knocked off...

I've even had it where someone has said, "but you've got to knock something off!" Have I?! Really?! I usually reply with, why?

Really does boil my blood sometimes.....

Best reply I've heard is "If I'd wanted less I'd have advertised it for less":D

  2. Is it 'super select' because the offroaders like them. Check for rust, rust, rust, everywhere!

    Winter is coming;)

Had a few in p/ex and used to buy them when I could find them with sensible miles (sun 80k)

cheap entry level 4x4s that always sell well, always kind to me.

Keep to a sensible margin and you'll be fine!

I agree. I seem to have a small market of people that need the robustness and ability of a 4x4 (horse riding, dog walking, fishing etc) but also have to live in a community of 4x4 'haters' so can't choose a Shogun/Defender type. Those Pinin's seem to be 'just enough' but 'not too much' if you get what I mean.

    Wasn't "Umesh" looking for a 4x4 for weekend fun?:D

Trying to get a clean Cmax is difficult the same with Zafira's. There abused by families with Mcdonals and baby sick, and an Old Dog called Shep Thrown in the boot for good measure.

Cmax are the same as focus mechanically,  I try not to buy the 1.6 Diesel engine due to Turbo Fails that Cannot be Fixed. There are some Ecu faults but they are rare, A Clean Petrol 1.6 is the one  try to buy.

I agree, MPV's are a workhorse. Worked to death and get no love.

Interesting the amount of Zafira's used by minicabbers though.

  4. I remember when guys were like this over the Renault Clio, hugely popular and trendy little car but not really built to withstand the abuse to which it found itself, ie lent to the boyfriend to joyride!

Just out of interest how do you guys find the 'cmax'. I find that, like many MPV's they are either really loved or not loved and treated like a bus. I've yet to sit in a cmax and think yah rather than urggh!

And also like many MPV's people go to great lengths to hide the fact its been used as a minicab, either saturday nights or school runs:D

  5. How does the CarDealer collective deal with a 'straight' car that's had a speedo change. In the old days this would be classed as a "story car", but with punters able to check online MOT history, if they see a bump in the mileage they quite rightly shy away. So, how do you guys handle this. Attempt to explain it in the advertising, or don't mention it and tell the story to a punter in person. Car in question. Full history Ford Focus with a documented instrument cluster change a few years back. Now showing 59,000, speedo changed in '09 with 32,000 showing. I should point out that otherwise, a nice car?

Focus' are known for instrument cluster failure, so its not a surprise to me as such. In fact its the second this year I've had for sale. The last one took 'some' explaining to be honest!

  6. So, lady across the road has blown the H/G in her Corsa. It's been parked up outside her house for a couple of weeks. I ran the usual checks and its "uninsured", Tried to check the tax and it says "VEHICLE DETAILS COULD NOT BE FOUND", so I'm guessing its SORN'd. But the MOT history has disappeared and I get the message "No vehicle that matched the data you entered could be found". Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried signing in from different browsers? I use a mix of Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera and IE.

I find Firefox works best with the Manheim site.

Actually, yes. I have also tried 2 different devices. And I always seem to use Firefox. It's just the Manheim website that's being difficult recently for some reason.

  8. Maybe its just me but I've had endless problems signing into to Manheim site. They've obviously changed something in the last couple of weeks. I dare say I'm going to have to go and buy a brand new computer to take full advantage of the features of the site?

Whilst i am totally on your side, been bent over backwards many a time by auctions, if they didnt run a sold as seen basis i dont think they would be in business for very long the returns phone line would have melted after the first sale.

Yes, but interestingly, we can't sell what we buy from auction as sold as seen? It seems to me that car auctions are exploiting the hell out of their position of not being wholesale/retail/trade.

  10. Car auctions seem to be able to exploit the grey area between 'trade' and 'not trade'? They are motor trade 'experts', they inspect every car thoroughly enough but are selective about disclosing faults. How can you show 12 pics of paint chips and and ignore the slipping clutch?  All sales are 'sold as seen', not many businesses can operate like that in 2016.

How's he playing games, you must both have a copy of invoice with the date he purchased.

Still not good enough for 'Dart'. I can only assume that he is "playing games" over the exact sale date, perhaps he's "lost" or "doctored" his invoice? But, its been bouncing backwards and forwards. From experience, the Police are much more straightforward to deal with in situations like this over safety camera speeding tickets

  12. Has anyone got any experience of obtaining an Affadavit. It's regarding a PNC that won't go away because the new owner is playing games over the date of sale. It's the greatest story ever told. And the Dart Charge gang and NOT trade friendly!

  13. How are we finding customer resistance to automatics nowadays. There was a time when the auto boxes in small cars were made of chocolate but times are changing. There was also a time when autos were for old people and never on a sports car, but with true motorsport cars adopting auto boxes and of course the 'playstation' generation, times are chaning!

  14. It also has to be said that 'white' has benefited hugely from the superior paint finishes attainable now. The quality of modern paint finishes is astonishing and 'modern' white has a depth of shine that can even match black; not even Mercedes could achieve that back in the 80s/90s.
