  1. So, still confused, I took the decision to put every single car that is in my possesion on the MID as soon as I get them.  They then stay on there until I sell them.  So if I'm going to pick a car up from Coventry or wherever, I put the details on the MID just before I set off to collect it.  And as soon as I've handed the keys over to new customer on completion of the sale, I go back onto MID and take it off.

I do this too, so if its incorrect we are both in trouble :D

  2. The cars are going to be 'loaned' to me to persue a sale. I am not buying the cars I just have 'responsibility' for them, acting as an agent I guess. So, how do I stand. I assume that they will 'have' to cancel their insurance when I put them on my trade policy. The cars are currently taxed and will remain so until new owners are found, obviously if the cars dont sell to their satisfaction they will go back home again and be used. How does that sound?

  3. I'm in the weird position of selling a couple of cars for my ex wife and her husband. They used the cars as part of their business and are upgrading/downgrading. The cars are taxed, insured, MOT'd and registered to them as you'd expect. So, I just throw a bucket of water of them and take some pics! But, I have to put them on my trade insurance, I assume that their private car insurance will have to be informed that cover is no longer required on those vehicles. Will I then be 'all good to go' or am I missing something?

  4. These days, BCA do have an engineer's report as well as a condition report. Although these are charged to you as a buyer.. as well as to the seller, effectively two charges for the same thing .And if you buy online you have to pay extra... and so does the seller - double bubble, yet again..

But if you buy an 'Assured' car there is a bit of a comeback. Although this costs more too... to the buyer and seller.

And if you have any margin left after having to bid against your own customers (or the wall!) to pay well over the odds for an edgy standard spec hatchback, and then having had to pay all the hidden 'extra' charges the auction house slap on, you then have the added privilege of AutoTrader taking the rest of your hard-earned for some superduper package that will give you the edge and definitely increase your enquiries.... 'cos they say it will, so it must be true. And the prices are going up again in January.

Greedy, greedy, boys; all of 'em.

I sense that the backlash against AutoTrader is only just beginning. A quick read of their own forum is a bit of an eyeopener. Has anyone else noticed a drop off in enquiries since the 'new' Search facility was introduced?

And why is the new design of both BCA and A/T's websites so similar?

Not forgetting that the new BCA website looks like its been designed for primary schools kids to use! I told them that too! :D

  5.

Having worked as an inspector at auction sites the reports are pretty bang on physically.

I remember checking out a Clio on BCA which sounded ok, the description was pretty thorough. When it was in the line up the 'inspector' hadn't noticed the nearside rear wheel at an odd angle! I guess these little things slip through sometimes   :D

  6. I was speaking to a "road side trader" last week , although he has been pretty annoyed about the new changes as he usually dumps these piles on the sides of the roads, his exact words were:

'F*** the Po. I am going to leave them there anyway, they will never know, in Plymouth there are not enough police and they don't care about un taxed cars anyway'.

So from that, I don't think anything will change and they will continue to trade on the road side and drive our prices down. boo

Most roadside traders know that they can easily avoid a heap of trouble by simply taxing any sale cars anyway. After all, tax on cheapies added value. I also notice that you can tax a car without being the registered keeper so stick it on a monthly direct debit and cancel when sold ;)

  7. Have you ever know anyone get fined or prosecuted for driving a vehicle on the road with on registered keeper??? We in the trade must have done millions of miles between us in taxed 'in trade' cars, never heard of this rule being enforced.

Again, a lot depends on where you live. A trade mate of mine has recently moved out of East London to the Essex countryside and never gets any issues. Wheres back in the smoke, with "Police all stops" seemingly around every corner its very different. The problem is that you will 'flag up' on police ANPR as "NO CURRENT KEEPER" which converts into police speak as drug dealer/car thief/undesirable and will warrant a stop. Obviously an explanation to the police usually does the trick but you'll be public enemy no1 for 2 mins. Police in my area are generally of the opinion that 'motor trade' are guys trying to dodge round the system so "they are all up in your grill" :D

Also, I think that the recent changes to the VED system have more to do with preparing for 'road charging' rather than savings. Watch this space......
