Yes it was a psa/bmw joint venture I believe. Prince engine, god awful thing to be honest and riddled with problems. Personally I’d of got shot before you started spending money on it.

Being the turbo model it’ll be the same engine as the Mini Cooper S/Peugeot 207 Gti

Crap car will retail at 8k though has a decent AT rating even though that doesnt mean anything:lol:

On a Vauxhall i have Insignia diesel, I had it smoking like something is terminal, smoking on tick over and a real trail of smoke at normal driving, Did not even had to be booting it was there all the time, I was bricking it, turned out my diesel was desperately trying to regen but some sensor had gone ( forgot the one) and once we changed that £60 the car was able to self clean regen and all was well,

Im sending the turbo to be refurbished tomorrow see what that does, bmw specialist said maybe the cam sensor

valve stem seals , and piston rings is my guess .

mini engine , they are bloody useless . Smoke like battle ships because they are burning oil .

Circa £900 /£1200 fix , while the heads off have it tested and cleaned , new rings , oil change and it will run sweet as new ,

Piston rings it cant be as it was running fine came from Liverpool and back twice and then was smoking then was fine then smoking again, however the bmw specialist said  valve stem seals, its either a mini or a Peugeot 62 plate. Sent the turbo in just waiting on it to come back now. Spent over £1k needs to go to the body shop yet. Got it semi cheap £4200 for a 62 plate low miles estoril blue

  3. Got a BMW 116i in P/X its smoking badly and the snap on computer reads

130308 - VANOS , OUTLET control error position not reached

120408 - Boost pressure control , cut of pressure rise blocked

Had the timing chain replaced etc . Thinking the turbo next. Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Moderation:

Hang on,  the forum is full of posts saying "bored" or "at a loose end" and people moaning about financial impacts. I'm pointing out this will cure all those things, and keep you fit, and sort out schooling if you have kids.

What's the moderation issue? You have topics started saying "tired of beans and toast" or "week 4 lockdown".

This is very valid! If you're not working and are fit enough, why not get off your fat arses and do something useful and in the national interest?

Even car dealers can pick some fruit. My raspberry canes are coming on a treat, the rhubarb is a metre tall and I might need some itinerant workers soon, on my farm.

Its a car dealer forum not a covid 19 things to do forum

I've spoken to a few customers and they seem to be very clued on how to arrange the cars in their search low-high and many have told me they do so when searching. To my mind it would seem important to be on the first page... maybe some will disagree?

My method/idea: Typically when pricing a car up, first arrange low-high within 80 miles (sometimes 60 if a small car) on autotrader, select the make and models, includes that are a year or two older than mine, with mileage no more than 10,000 more than mine, similar spec and try to match or undercut a bit if margin allows. Might price mine more if it has better extras, theirs is a bad colour etc or less if mine seems less desirable - this is all learnt through trial and error, it doesn't seem anyone can give a laundry list of universally appealing + points. If possible it seems beneficial to helping the phone ring to undercut people but I will always appear above the Cat C,D,N,S stuff, above the private ads and kurbsiders (not the same market of punter to my mind) and advertise along with the other proper pitches hoping my advert and reputation might secure a phonecall... but things are hard even then so I often wonder how those who are £500+ above me (sometimes £1,000 more with almost identical cars) get on? Do they sell?

Anyway, how do you all come up with your retail price? When I started Cap Retail -£200 was right to sell the car in a month 90% of the time on sub £5k stuff

(Comments like "just use AT price" hahahah. Move along ;))

I use the system you use or very similar.
