Ok, so I'm looking to employ a trainee sales executive and I'm after some advice. I've put out a couple of adverts and I've managed to short list a few candidates that I'm looking to interview over the next few days. But.. Having never been interviewed for a job in my career what should I be asking, or what should I be looking for in an interview? Any advice or tips?

What are the most common problems you face on a daily basis?
c_cars replied to dmurko's topic in General Dealer Chat
If you can give us an app that makes customers answer our returned calls the next day after their 11pm enquiries that would be great! -
Have you tried Tweeting them GG? Apparently a well directed Tweet works wonders these days... Power of soshul meeja and all that...

So who's not using Facebook to it's full potential?
c_cars replied to jimreidvehicle's topic in General Dealer Chat
I'm 100% with you Jim, I haven't posted on here for a while but this thread definitely requires a response! I've scaled my AT advertising right down (to the point of it being cancelled imminently) due to the response I'm getting on Facebook. I totally agree with what you say about people just posting a few statuses, I've been watching dealers 'do Facebook' recently and its certainly a lot more than a couple of pictures every couple of days... An interesting topic and it'll be interesting to see how this thread pans out..- 5 replies

As the title suggests, just out of curiosity, how many of us are jumping on the Black Friday bandwagon and offering extra deals today?

Whos made the swap from Autotrader to Motors then?
c_cars replied to williamblackshaw's topic in General Dealer Chat
Out of a sample of 20 deals done this month, a quarter have come from Motors, with the rest being a combination of (mostly) Autotrader and the rest eBay! -
Someone who leaves stanley blades, drawing pins and wheel acid lying around in his office. Very professional!

Just out of interest Gavin, how do you cover distance sales with your own warranty? Do you insist on the car coming back to you or do you liase with customers local workshops to resolve issues?

I think thats the nature of eBay. Our enquiries tend to be the same with a lot of leads being difficult to get replies from after the intial late night email enquiry!

Whos made the swap from Autotrader to Motors then?
c_cars replied to williamblackshaw's topic in General Dealer Chat
All good with Motors here, went live last week and have done 2 from there already! I also monitor my sales leads and am getting a fair spread from AutoTrader, eBay, AACars and Motors so its true to say people don't just use AutoTrader! -
Could we get a for sale section going ?
c_cars replied to Wheelerdealer1's topic in General Dealer Chat
Sounds like a good swap to me! In all seriousness a for sale section sounds good, there are always things Im scouring eBay for and Im sure between us all we could reduce our parts bills! -

Comments on this thread are certainly making me think twice about AutoTrader but I think Id have to see some facts before cancelling.. Like Ken, we are on AT & eBay, with the addition of AACars (VCars). Most of our leads are AutoTrader generated but I'm selling at least one a week from AACars which is paying for itself. Ive got to admit that the Motors rep might be getting a call from us soon and we've also had Sun Motors knocking our door this week with a very tempting deal which Im looking into.. -
New Car Tax Rules and Test Drives - What's the Deal?
c_cars replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
Havent heard of any trade plate issues with the new tax system and we are still allowing car test drives on our existing plates, can't really see how its affected.. Not sure if there are any different legal implications with bikes though, maybe the bike dealer doesn't have plates and relies on his stock having tax? -
Just taxed a couple online, couldn't be easier. Would be nice to be able to do a few together and pay at the end, like an online shopping scenario with a 'checkout.; I wonder if that's too much to ask?
-
Was just about to post the same thing. Tried checking whether a car is taxed too? Yes, you guessed it! On a side note to the whole 'discs expiring at midnight' thing... After a lengthy conversation with DVLA yesterday, although the official lines are that any discs in the trade are no longer valid, technically they are. If you sell a car with a disc on it as long as the transaction happened yesterday (ie the V5 can always be dated so) that disc will remain valid. I used the scenario of 'well what if I sell a car with a tax disc on it today (yesterday) will that disc expire for my customer who's driven away? DVLAs answer? No. And so it continues..

Big tax changes nearly upon us - what have you done?

Copied and pasted from the other thread. So whats the point in the tax disc still being valid? -

c_cars replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
Ive managed to speak to DVLA this morning and they've confirmed the following. 1) Any current tax discs with expiry after the 1st October will cease to be, even if the car has been yellow slipped. Any car that you wish to use will have to be taxed in your businesses name (or used on trade plates.. ) 2) When taxing a car online the only thing that the DVLA checks for is MOT not insurance. Was worried about this one from the point of view of customers dragging their heels sorting insurance out and becoming a nightmare when we cant tax their car for them to drive away! Top tip, if you want to speak to DVLA, call them first thing, got straight through at 8.30 -
The only query Ive got is does the vehicle have to be showing as insured on the database (ie insured in the customers name) before it can be taxed, either online or over the phone?
-
Jamslug, to be on the safe side Im telling every customer on and after the 1st every car whether it has a disc or not has to be taxed, that way you can't be wrong. Just tried calling DVLA to clarify the above as Ive been told different by them... 'We are currently unable to connect your call as all 270 lines are currently busy.' The sign of things to come over the next few weeks?

c_cars replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
Same as Wheelerdealer here! We've always taxed sold cars at the Post Office ready for customers to drive away and we're still going to be doing that. The only thing thats changed is that at the time of taxing we have to submit the V5 in the new keepers name. My current user has got a disc until January which DVLA have told me that as long as the yellow slip has been submitted and its showing as in trade, the disc is valid for use by the trade. When I sell it, the new keeper will have to tax it. Simple! -
Even though it's had so many drivers it's only one company that have actually owned the car ðŸ‘
