  1. Owned by Mr Hertz, the nice Dutch man, likes to change his car regularly.. Seriously though in the days of ERAC (Enterprise) on the V5 Ive heard colleagues say (and said myself) that they were 'registered on behalf of the manufacturer' and most people don't seem to be bothered. Pretty sure that most large hire companies don't have the word Hire or similar on the V5s now because of remarketing?
  2. Seeing as this has been bumped! We completed the run in our £250 Volvo, with a round trip just short of 2500 miles, including a visit of the Monza F1 circuit and a couple of laps of the Nurburgring and the whole event has raised over £35000 so far for Help For Heroes! My highlight of the trip? Going up Stelvio Pass filming (with the iPhone!) from the roof of the Volvo!
  3. Come on now, we all know any used car salesman these days has to be wearing a Berghaus / Karrimor or similar jacket
  4. Started washing cars at the age of 16 at a local used site while doing A Levels in college, got more and more interested in what was going on and then became an apprentice salesman on weekends. From there I skipped my plan of university and came straight into the trade, never to leave since.. Have pretty much always sold used, including at a main dealer and had a stint of self employed trading but went back to a full time sales manager job about a year ago. Don't think Id ever want to do anything else now to be honest!
  5. Decals are in the process of being done, fitted tomorrow along with a quick blast of anthacite grey on the wheels! Nothing like last minute!
  6. I don't know whether anyone from here is doing this but thought Id pop a quick post up anyway.. Banger Run is an event run by Help For Heroes, driving 4 days across Europe in a £250 car to Lake Como Italy, taking in 5 of Europes most gruelling roads, including the Stelvio Pass! This years event starts on 30th August (this Saturday) and Im entering a team, and ultimately, the reason for my post is to get sponsorship.. The overall fundraising target is £30000 and as of last night the total has reached £29000! Our chosen car is a 1993 Volvo 850 estate, a part exchange which was abandoned in our compound and with the theme this year being Best of British we've had it painted in the 1993/4 British Touring Car Volvo colours. We've got a Facebook page up and running http://www.facebook.com/jmcbangerrun where there are photos of the car and we'll be posting updates during the run. If you'd like to sponsor us you can text BNGR77 £2 (or £5 / £10) to 70070 or you can donate online at our JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.com/jmcbangerrun Thanks for your support!
  7. Edit, read the thread and answered my own question!
  8. Just read through the article and, not meaning to put anyone down over this, it tells us nothing about how things are going to change, just reads to me like a standard press release type interview with lots of 'need to' and 'would's. With just over a month to go surely the DVLA should be publishing a definitive set of rules/guidelines on how this whole tax disc thing will work and not telling us how to run our sales processes!
  9. Another vote for iPhone 5S here, never had a problem with quality. The added bonus of iPhone is that Ive got the Dealer Portal app which I can upload photos straight to!
  10. A long process thats not very practical if you're on your own and have to be sat with a customer while there are customers on your pitch and phones ringing! Is there an online version of this article somewhere?
  11. Just realised that this is something different to what Ive entered! Im doing the Help For Heroes Banger Run, any other motor trade teams entering? http://www.bangerrun.com
  12. From my point of view as sole salesman in a family owned business where I'm left to my own devices.. When I started here a year ago the person I replaced only worked Sundays on a viewing by appointment basis. Over the last year Ive worked the majority of Sundays and can only remember maybe a handful of occasions where I haven't dealt. Our opening times are typically 11 until 4 but I take the day as it comes, sometimes opening at 10, if its busy I work the full day (sometimes longer if needed) but if its quiet I have an early finish but remain contactable by mobile or email. I can see both sides of the coin to be honest and its interesting reading everyones opinions!
  13. Retailed 9 so far this month, but the phone has gone quiet the last few days.. Its one of the main holiday weeks this week though isn't it?
  14. Looks like its 'have a go at the motor trader weekend' http://mobile.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1431851&mid=0&nmt=+%22there+is+a+guy+in+France+who+is+about+to+buy+it%22

  16. The likes of Motors and co know they are never going to compete with Autotrader and they were trying to sell it to us as an additional rather than a replacement; can any of us honestly justify ditching AT or eBay? Was quite sold on the Motors idea but had just signed with AA Cars / Vcars the week before and to be fair Im getting a few extra enquiries and have sold a handful of cars from it.
  17. Ok then guys, taking this a step further, and regarding this internet generation.. How do you handle out of hours enquiries, like a Saturday evening? Asking the question as I had an email enquiry at 9pm last night, called the person back straight away and their reaction was 'oh I wasn't expecting such a quick response!' Have experienced this a few times when responding out of hours!
  18. Id agree with Gavin, Ive used both Dealer Auction and Sytner and the other one I use regularly is Auction4Cars.com, Motorpoints trade disposal site. No fees, car described properly and a wide variety of stock from bangers to year old stuff. All my part exs go on eBay, 5 or 7 day auctions with no reserve and described as bluntly as possibly so no one is every under any illusion what they are buying and haven't had any issues so far!
  19. I thought I was a late entry at 23rd June! All signed up, car found, sponsorship starting to come through... cant come soon enough now!
  20. Just trying to 'persuade' a couple of mates to do it, done the Nurburgring a few times but always fancied something like this!
  21. Its all sorted now and very easily, as my previous post putting yourself in the customers shoes always helps.. Gave the customer the option of bringing it back to us or getting the work done at his local garage, he had it done locally and we settled the bill!
  22. Yeah, I picked that up this afternoon after posting funnily enough. Ive also put myself in the customers shoes which surprisingly puts a different slant on it 'how would i feel' etc. All sorted and resolved now anyway
  23. Ive got a bit of a grey area with an aftersales issue, looking for your views if possible. A customer collected an 11 plate Corsa from me on the 1st June, on which we carried out an pre sale MOT (independent 3rd party MOT station). The customer has now called me today saying that his discs and pads are down to the metal and require changing and has sent me a quotation from his garage. On this quote it shows the mileage and in the last 9 days he has covered nearly 700 miles since purchase. My thoughts are that if the car passed an MOT and the customer has since done that amount of mileage in such a short time then we shouldnt be accountable, What are your thoughts?
  24. What are everyones opinions of Deltapoint in respect of price comparisons? I still find myself scrolling Autotrader to see what equivalents out there are priced at
