Some spend 12 months & more looking. One fella I know of, the biggest messer on the earth, about 3.5 years ago asked me my p/x price for his bottle green 2003 Picasso. He’s still driving it.

The man has an appreciating classic on his hands :)

Global payments reduced my debit card rate from 0.9% (!!!) to 0.2 when I mentioned I will switch to Barclays.

    Do the same with Worldpay.

That's a fair drop, cheers Nick.

  3. Anyone know of any particularly good deals on card payment suppliers, currently with Worldpay with a fixed terminal, I pay £15/£20 a month for terminal, 0.71% debit cards and 1.31 for credit cards and 2.45% for business cards. Try to dissuade large transactions by getting people to use bank transfer but not always possible.

    Thank you

Too true + I’ll add “some fly away, some sit for bloody months & months”. Tbh nowadays I struggle to predict a length of time in stock until sold.

It’d be nice to have a crystal ball in this game.

I think that goes for many of us BHM, had a few lately that should have pissed out but took way too long to sell(Still managed good profit due to increasing the price after slashing them down in price). One thing for sure is don't overthink it, make sure the cars are right and they will go...some sooner than others!

Hi, are we all moving towards this Business Model ?

More sales - for less profit per unit ?

Or hold out for more profit per unit ?

July seems very quiet to me, how is everyone else doing ?

No point in being a busy fool but then again there is little point hanging on for 12 months just to say you've had 2grand on a car. The job is a balance and I always judge a car on its own. If I have a car of which there are plenty around(Fiesta, Corsa etc) then I will more than likely take a deal on it compared to something which is special and I will look to take a lump out of. I think that is the true beauty of this job, get a model that suits you and stick with it.

I have had some quiet weeks of late and some busy weeks but I am down quite a bit on numbers from last year but profit is within  a few hundred quid.

  6. I find Autotrader enquiries are generally better quality than the likes of Ebay, Gumtree, Gurus etc. I always respond to everything that comes through, also the younger generation do everything by messaging it seems.

Won a car on dealer auction, the salesman from the dealership emailed me invoice on Monday,we paid the £2500 Tuesday morning, today Movex arrive to collect, the dealership say the money hasn’t been paid, long story short, somebody has hacked into the dealerships email and changed the account number and sort code so I’ve sent the money to a complete different account. Rang Natwest fraud team, apparently it’s becoming a common trick, worst thing is I might not get the money back, be careful sending money, you never think it’s going to happen to you and then when it does you never see it coming.

Thank you for the heads up David, hope you get it sorted.

Due to the fantastic support from over 60 supplier/partners we've been able to keep the membership FREE for dealers for 2019.( Hopefully this will continue to be so for the future but we'll keep all members updated should there be a fee)

If it wasn't for being in the IMDA I would never have got the level of insurance for the money I paid, thank you IMDA.

Most likely not, but we will take your advice on board, like i sai all part exchange stock is sold as spares or repairs or export only. This way we cant have any issues as we don't allow test drive only allowed to trailer away

Sorry, I thought the ML broke down on the drive home?

Appreciate the advice about been road legal but now we just advertise all part exchange stock as spares or repairs or export only. In this case the car had 11 months mot and it was priced £1000 under book value with extras including chrome bull bars side steps and even a private number which was worth at least £300

If it had 4 months MOT would you have tested it?

Hi, new here really need some advice on a used car we sold to a customer.

Sorry but it will take a while so please take in all information and give us some advice as this is the first time in 10 years of trading to come across a situation like this.

We got a mercedes ml270 as a trade in was advertised as no warranty and told the customer before he left deposit there was a fault with the glow plug light staying on for a while but starts and drives as it should, on his 6 hour return journey home the car broke down due to accelerator pedal sensor, had aa come out to his location and got it going for him and managed to get the car back home. Few days later get a call saying glow plugs are snapped in the head and he wants a full refund. We advised him we could only be held responsible for the accelerator pedal issue as he was fully aware there was a problem with glow plugs and we had not inspected it as that is our policy on part exchange stock and clearly advertised. Long story short as this continued for a while and he filed a small claim against us, few weeks before court we bit the bullet and decided to go collect the car and pay the full refund of the car, asked the customer few days before our arrival if the car starts and he told us the garage it is at have started it with a booster pack.

On our arrival we are told the garage has lost the key and there isn't another and the garage owner said we couldn't drive the car either because it was stuck in 1st gear being a automatic but there has never been any mention of gearbox issues in the past from customer or the garages report. Garage advised they would return car at their cost and have a new key made from dealers.

Here is the interesting part customer says he will contact the courts next day and have case put on hold until this matter is resolved, little to our knowledge the following day we recieved a letter from the courts stating customer had not paid the hearing fees and his cas was struck out and a couple of weeks later another letter stating his application to reinstate the case was not granted and the case is struck out and will need to start all over again. We never told the customer we had received this information as we would settle it as agreed, couple of weeks later advised by customer garage had got in to the car and reassured us a new key would arrive next week as garage had 100% ordered it from main dealers, a month later customer comtacts us saying they will deliver the car next week and we advised him that we want a inspection carried out on the car as we are worried about the gearbox issue your garage told us about just to make sure no parts have been removed and if all is well money will be transferred asap. Upon hearing this customer got very aggressive and saying we are not allowed to start the car it will be unloaded once monies have been paid. We have refused this and now he is saying he will be putting in a new case. Now do we have the right to have the car inspected surely you would think we are allowed to start the bloody thing, how do we even know if there is a key for the car. ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER. THANKS

    Am I missing something here?

Tony you are a professional car dealer who has been at the business for 10 years and you are advertising a vehicle with no warranty and admitting that you don't check part exchange vehicles as policy...….why not?

You are fully allowed to sell vehicles with faults(Predisclosure), I do it all the time on older cars but I put a fresh MOT on them(Presumably you don't)and make sure all your paperwork is in order regarding a PDI sheets etc. You are leaving yourself wide open here mate, if a punter has a serious accident in a vehicle you have sold and you haven't provided due diligence you are fooked, is someone dies then you would probably face a manslaughter charge.

I appreciate that you might have a bit of a twat on your hands here and the garage hasn't helped the situation either with the keys but it isn't worth risking IMO.

    Hi,

customer wants a refund it's been three weeks and not allowing me to get the car checked. I did say get the car checked by mechanic but they are not prepared to do that either and just demanding a refund, do I have to refund the cost of the part exchange allowance too?

    many thanks.

What are they claiming has gone wrong?

You still have your right to inspect the vehicle, I would not let them get someone to look at it....get control of the situation and get the car. Should it be a rejectable issue you have to refund in full and give them either their px back or the value you gave them for it. Even if it isn't rejectable I usually just give them their money back to be honest, not worth the chew some people!

So you could take that opinion...bid yourself and tell matey to do one as presumably its just a gentlemans agreement in place...

You could but the game is a small place overall, c"""s tricks won't get you far for long IMO.

So they won't use their own auction account?

I was thinking they'd use their own account. But who would pay for the car? Does the dealer pay directly or does he pay the buyer after the buy has paid auction?

They just give you an opinion and hopefully don't miss anything horrendous but remember they don't get to drive. I have done it for retailers many moons ago but it can be a bit tricky at times.

    I hope he’s not a dealer.

You can imagine getting a call a couple of weeks after selling from the customer asking where the tree is?

I've had the pine tree air freshener but that takes the biscuit!!

    Hi Guys,

Have been reading your posts now for a couple of weeks and I must say I find them both interesting and on times highly amusing and it seem all the same old issues are there, a bit of back ground i have got the game in my blood a bit of an old vetran but have been out of it for the past 6 yeas or so when I gave up my pitch, and currently running an Estate agency but at heart do miss buying cars. However having done a bit of research it seems things have changed a bit over the past few years, looking at going back and doing a bit of dealing from home, but stock prices generally seem to be silly and at times almost retail how do you guys seem to buy enough stock that still has some legs in it with auction premiums etc being so high, your comments would help

    Thanks in advance

Why did you give the pitch up Beechwood and go into something else?

I need a new High Pressure Fuel Pump for a BMW 330i.

Anyone had any experience with the following company / HPFP?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263604780944?ul_noapp=true

Obviously keen to save money, but not at the expense of it being made of swiss cheese....

    Any input / experience appreciated.

    Cheers

The way I look at it,If it isn't a big labour charge to fit and won't do any damage if it goes wrong then I would probably give them a go!
