We have been out taking more pictures increasing to 50 and adverts have jumped up the ladder on the 1s we have done so far, but used to have around 30 images and plenty of information regarding vehicles and was still coming under private sellers and other dealer adverts with only a few images and not as high quality as ours:blink: so hoping they are just teething problems and will resolve in the near future as we are high rated 2019 by autotrader with over 60 5 star reviews

I had a query the other day about a highly rated dealer who had quite a low star rating being at around 3.5 stars, I was told that this was because the dealer responded to all of his reviews? Seems they make it up as they go along!

no the default is now  "relevance"  you can still set it to "Low-High".................   and i guess  most would do that

I think we know about relevance because we use it all the time, but there will still be a fair number who don't search as this!

Literally for life of me cannot sell this car.  Average market price on auto trader is saying £9000 ish. Ive now priced it a grand below for over a 6 weeks and I cant even get a phone call on it.  Its such a lovely car. 7/8 Volvo stamps and 1 owner with Nav.

I bought this thinking it was an absolute banker haha.  Never a again.

Found a spelling mistake in the first line... must be where I am going wrong

I think Autotrader are fucking mental putting a 9 grand retail price on this car, it is 8 years old FFS.

You have a 10 plate done 100k ish similar type V50 for £3995, I honestly think sometimes on some cars ultra low miles can really jack the price too much.

Had a very interesting viewing the other evening. I am selling a clio 182 as you may of seen in another thread.

Got a text at about half 7. One liner can i come and have a look at your clio ? I replied yes thinking they would arrange a time tomorrow or the weekend. Message came back im only 20 minutes away from you i will be there by 8. Oh well i wasn't doing anything anyway and its quiet at the moment so i am not turning viewings down.

Two young lads show up. First words out of there mouths. "Were both mechanics we know what we are looking at" Oh just exactly what i need at 8pm on Tuesday. Anyway cut a long story short they went over the car with a fine tooth comb pointing out every issue on it that didn't exist. This is noisy that is noisy your belts are squeaking. Its a 15 year old highly modified clio cup i cant change what it is.

Let them take it for a short accompanied test drive. Both again got out the car complaining about this issue and that noise. Fuck me i thought its nearly 9 what am i doing with my time here (At this point i was fairly certain they both just fancied a little test drive. Turned round and said lads its obviously got to many issues for you so lets just go our separate ways. Oh no they said we will take it but want to make an offer. Backwards and forwards a few times. Settled with a small amount off for a wheel refurb. Paid and gone before half 9.

Just shows you how strange this business can be.

I asked them where they both worked as mechanics and the response i got: We work in the office at Kwik Fit. Took all my power not to laugh in there faces.

Just shows that you should never pre judge even though we all do.

    Motor traders with a personality.

I swear to God everyone on my Facebook and that I'm vaguely connected to is starting a car sales business. A guy with a courier firm, some double glazing fella, the guy that does carpet cleaning, a musician, the ice cream man... seriously? It's not that I'm afraid of the competition it's just stay in your fucking lane. I don't come and start pouring out Mr Whippy's calling myself Soft Icie when times are hard thinking the grass is greener do I?

Not to mention they're drips. All of them. Poncing around on their social media page telling you how "cool" their Mini Cooper Clubman is and how they take it home every night because it's their favourite of the 3 shitboxes they own. They pay garages labour by the hour.. retail!!? They come up to you in auction "how much do you spend on this" "where's best to advertise" "how many cars do you sell" "why do you think my red 13 plate corsa 1.2 with no air con for £5k hasn't sold?" "should I offer finance because I'm selling 3 cars a month" "look I built this website in C++ Python dick code aren't I good?". No. Just fuck off.

After a month or so they get their first screamer. Immediate refund. No questions asked. Please don't harm my precious reviews.

"We really went above and beyond for that client". What? You're flogging cars on Facebook from a bit of space you rent in an oversized car park. Where are the sheepskin coats and that guy that smokes a pipe?

An auction and the motor trade shouldn't be a welcoming place. It wasn't when we started. Now it's a creche.

Thank you for starting what has to be the best thread I have seen on here. Never has a topic made me reminisce as much as this and fucking belly laugh too. I tell you what though, there aren't many jobs like this one..... the highs and the lows, what a fucking ride. I do miss all those proper old traders/dealers, if they liked you they would tell/show you a few tricks and it was like finding gold dust.

The one about the white dog poo...…… LOL LOL LOL

I signed up to dealer auction a few months back. Logged in a few days ago and bid on one car which I was outbid immediately then left it for abit. Just been charge a £118 subscription fee I didn't know about when I signed up. Do you think they'll refund me? Or have I lost my money.

When I joined a while back they took the yearly fee straight away, I thought that was the way it worked with DA. Good luck

    More AT shite.

I wonder if AT would better improving their valuation algorithm, should take into account ohh, I don't know, how about length of ticket, full, part or no service history, belt in schedule, not a V car, number of owners, warranted miles etc.

The variables are enormous and, particularly when you get back in the years, the difference between cars is further apart. I have spoken to AT about this time after time.... they should stick to advertising and not try to be car dealers!!

as the header says you could write war and peace in your adverts but when customer turns up they cant often even remember what they've come for

this is where personal service comes in plus impeccable detailed cars followed up by explaining in words what procedures your cars go through prior to being offered for sale

once sale agreed customer then signs all paperwork including confirmation they've seen pdi, have seen and had time to see my warranty and then of course the signature on the legal document to purchase ie the receipt

...........i understand this is a contract to purchase and i am over 18 etc.........

the hardest bit is getting the viewing so even i now answer txts emails pop ups promptly thanks to kindly kicking from this forum...........thanks chapps chappesses

Well said JD, we are experts in what we do..... if they had the knowledge what we have they would be doing what we do!

I had an experience recently of getting new double glazing and I know as much about that field as I do about brain surgery!, What a fookin shark tank that is but whilst I experienced some shite and bollocks I had 2 very good experiences. It was good for me to be the punter on a reasonably salty purchase, something I don't often get to experience.

I did give both companies positive reviews even though I didn't buy from one of them.

    Morning everyone,

A couple of days ago I was about to bid on a car from BCA but I run the HPI check and it showed as having outstanding finance. I called the branch, they carried out their own check and said they’ll retract it from sale.

I was under the impression that all auctioned cars should have no outstanding finance but I’m new to this game and still learning.

    Does this happen often?

HPI everything before you part with your cash …….

Had a customer ask why the engine oil wasn't black yesterday:wacko:

....which its self is worrying but the first part of ad and vid state just serviced:rolleyes:

Some people know absolutely nothing about cars, to be honest I take it as a great opportunity to explain in detail the benefits of buying from a professional independent rather than a chancer or a huge faceless corporation. If only I knew of a good professional independent...….. :)

  10. Not a single car sold over the weekend with just 2 enquiries!

Pissed down pretty much all day Saturday but yesterday was nice weather but still nothing.....hey ho that's the way it goes!

On 21 so far this month but most of that was done in the first 2 weeks, we will never work the job out.

We have been busier and busier in the last 3 months with car gurus. We are definitely seeing more referrals from car gurus month on month, still not on auto trader level but still....

I wish I could say the same Grant, my views and sales have DROPPED since going live with them a few months ago. I know I only spend £350 a month but sold just 1 this month makes it expensive per lead. Have been on to them and they can't really give me a reason why I am doing worse than when on the free package with them!

Hi NITM. EBay mostly, cars are on FB Marketplace too, sold a few that way.

They're on Car Gurus too, but most are sold through eBay.

Very very rarely advertise on AutoTrader.

I find Ebay/Gumtree a waste of time to be honest. Autotrader all the way for me particularly when coupled with strong reviews, sold 21 from this month with 18 coming from AT(The others were 2 from referrals and 1 from CG). I need to get FB sorted as I am way behind the curve with it.

The sales have come from people within an hours drive but there have been 3 that have gone over 200 miles away.

TG, may I ask why you don't use Autotrader?

    Like big style.

I’m all about working wiser, valuing my time and making my business work for me.

Spending quality time with my family now, watching my boys grow and enjoying ourselves is THE priority.

My dad passed away when I was 10, he was 50..... I’m now 50 with 4 & 5 year old boys....... it’s all about family and making memories :)

I have been guilty in my early days of making a good living and not having a life!

As you get older your priorities change, it is all about getting the balance you are happy with as it's not a dress rehersal.

  14. Autosmart and Nielsen mainly but always willing to give other stuff a try.

G101 is a brilliant allround cleaner and terrific value as it is still effective with a 10 to 1 dilution rate, £50 plus VAT for 25 litres around here!

Interesting, can you send link to your source?

I have tried them... but I've found an odour remover / eater is better to get rid of smells.... seriously Zoflora pet odour eater / disinfectant is the bees knees, oh and I don't have shares....

    https://northwestlaundrysupplies.co.uk/
This is where you can get the Lemon Oil Arfur.

I use Brisk Fabric cleaner from Autosmart to clean first then a shot or two of this just to freshen when a punter is coming.

I’m interested whether you’ve upgraded or not and if so have you seen an increase in traffic?

I’m considering joining CG as EMP is producing f.a. punters, AT isn’t an option, Gumtree seems to be a glorified internet jumble sale, although I must confess to not yet investigating Motors.

From what I see/understand the FREE package looks fairly poor - tbh I’m surprised any punter can be bothered filling in their details in order to send an email.

The middle package, ENHANCED, is the one I’m considering although as an unknown (to me) entity if I take the plunge I’ll expect a deal, with a reduced contract, to entice me in.

I upgraded in May and am doing worse than when I was on the free package in terms of stats they give you.

EBAY/GM has had its day, I have been with them for years(EBAY)and had some proper results years ago but, alas, it seems the party has ended.

I was with MOTORS for about 14 months a couple of years ago and didn't do great with them either.

Someone mentioned earlier about being on AT solely or being on all the others, I think this is a fair comment. Overall I do well with AT, better quality enquiries but it is a salty old bill to pay.

My next venture will be onto social media and see what this brings, I am way behind the curve I know but better late than never!
