  1. I think they’ve been hacked this can’t be serious. Is this some kind of Industry parody? https://youtu.be/bJ3kJ2xUnzM
  2. Saying that they must be doing something right theyve just released their U.S revenue earnings. No doubt they intend to make the similar amounts out of us at some point!! http://www.autoremarketing.com/technology/cargurus-first-earnings-call-public-company-reveals-56-revenue-spike?utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=http%3a%2f%2fwww.autoremarketing.com%2ftechnology%2fcargurus-first-earnings-call-public-company-reveals-56-revenue-spike&utm_campaign=CarGurus+Off+to+Good+Start+as+Public+Company
  3. Same poor response here, I wish another site would work for us but the reality is that as much as it pains me AT does the job. It was easier to attract a decent enquiry than it is today with all you have to do to stand out like but I’m yet to use a site that does better. I take all the free trials from the others as and when because why not but once they come knocking for a subscription I’m off and so the cycle continues.
  4. Received a letter this morning from Warrantywise regarding the increase in IPT. Another reason why when I do buy a warranty I buy it from them. They are an independent service and maintenance company so don’t operate on an insured basis so therefore don’t charge you IPT. Worth looking in to as they reckon the IPT is going to rise again from what is now already 12%. Their website address is www.wisedealer.co.uk
  5. In my old Franchise days I used to do this, I would go out after they’d done 12 rounds with the salesman and say so if we do xyz and swim the channel backwards you will buy the car? They’d sit and nod their head. Then I’d throw my hand out to shake on it. As we were shaking hands I’d break it to them that it wasn’t gonna happen and I’d rather sell it to someone else. Their faces were a picture. In fact I’d the satisfaction it gave I’d rather have done 10 of them a month than actual deals :-)
  6. Not used Glass for at least 5yrs and I stopped subscribing to CAP last year as well because everything worth buying sells for more than CAP anyway and you can get their valuations for free on all the catalogues. If I’m valuing a swapper I use a blend of We Rob Any Car and Autotrader.
  7. I’ve always been told the industry average is about 8 times a year but some of the high volume Supermarkets have to run minimum double digits. We run at about the average which for what we do I think is pretty good. This target they’ve set seems unrealistic to me.
  8. Ironically Dragon2000 is the nickname I gave my ex wife.
  9. Well we’re not doing it just for the fun of it :-) profits not a dirty word. It’s still hard graft it just means you work harder on different things.
  10. Worst month so far was 9 best month 12 target is to get to 15 per month.
  11. Depends on location as to what you will pay we rent a 3000sqft with an option to extend to 6000sqft. We can hold 10 - 12 comfortably with an office area for doing business plus whatever we are driving. The problem with a pitch is joe public expect you to be there whenever they choose to turn up. We don’t advertise appointments only I think it puts people off. We get the odd one just turns up but it’s only 15mins away from home so can always nip out if needs be. We mainly have late plate German stock never had a customer comment on the fact we’re in a unit. Stock is always clean and dry too. Marketing spend is never gonna get cheaper so we needed to cut other costs.
  12. After 10yrs we have recently (July) come away from a roadside forecourt. They require too much effort for little reward these days so we are now 100% reliant on internet traffic. We cut down our overheads to account for our online spend otherwise we would not be in business. Working from a unit has far more benefits than working from a pitch. We have more free time to buy and do the important stuff only wish we had done it sooner. I would think very carefully about taking over a forecourt these days. As for warranties we stand by the stock ourselves unless we sell something long distance or high spec then we buy an off the shelf. Best of luck whichever way you decide to go...
