You missed a GREAT Conference at Rockingham Speedway!
James Baggott replied to jimreidvehicle's topic in General Dealer Chat
Wow. Thanks Jim. That really is very kind of you to say. We're all very pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for making the long trip south to attend. -
Interesting stuff. I was chatting to Brewer at the weekend at a Mitsubishi event and he made me laugh with his summary of an Apple store... 'Nowhere can you enter a store and see a massive queue of people clutching broken items waiting to talk to 'Genius Bar' staff that are completely and utterly invisible to those shelling out hundreds of pounds for the exact same products in the front of the store. If you walked into PC World and saw a massive queue at customer services of people clutching broken PCs you wouldn't think to yourself "Do you know what? I really want one of THOSE computers that break..." He has a point. Love or loathe Apple you can't deny their genius at marketing...

Chaps I've been following this with interest. If you could all ask the DVLA five questions what would they be - let me know here and I'll try my best to get them answered for you all.

I love the line one dealer told me he said to those who said they'd 'be back'. 'The be back bus doesn't stop here love. You need to buy it now...' Brilliant.

I'm a keen biker. Love motorbikes nearly as much as cars. I've often wondered what rules you guys have to trading in bikes for cars. I often see the odd bike on sites around the Car Dealer offices and wonder how does the dealer know what he's buying is any good? Let's face it, it's hard enough with cars let alone bikes too. What do you do? Flat out refuse to take them or have another avenue to deal with them? I'd be interested to know.

I think this would be covered by the same rules of taking pictures in a public place that the press adhere too. Posted from the ACPO directive online: There are no powers prohibiting the taking of photographs, film or digital images in a public place. Therefore members of the public and press should not be prevented from doing so. We need to cooperate with the media and amateur photographers. They play a vital role as their images help us identify criminals. We must acknowledge that citizen journalism is a feature of modern life and police officers are now photographed and filmed more than ever. Unnecessarily restricting photography, whether for the casual tourist or professional is unacceptable and it undermines public confidence in the police service. Once an image has been recorded, the police have no power to delete or confiscate it without a court order.

Three idiots have bought it before - brilliant. For me it's Bluetooth, iPhone music connectivity, sat nav. Probably in that order...

Chaps - not going to get all 'sales' - but this is exactly what our Car Dealer Club is for. Legal advice comes as part of the package and it really works. Helped a dealer out in Portsmouth this week who was a member. It's operated by Lawgistics who are top guys. You can read about them and the members they help every month in Car Dealer Mag. They would have been able to tell this dealer exactly what to do before court was even mentioned...

What cars do you think have gone the way of the Dodo?
James Baggott replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
In case you missed it here's the column I wrote inspired by this tread http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/mourning-croaked-cars-fell-love-back-day/80703 -
Most essential modern feature on cars??
James Baggott replied to Gavin@Rousdon's topic in General Dealer Chat
DAB - so annoying it's unreal. Car I was in at the weekend had DAB. I was listening to the F1 and when the signal dropped out (on the M4, so no backwater), it just disappears. At least with FM you get to hear a little albeit a bit fuzzy. I think DAB really needs sorting properly before the big switch off. I agree on Bluetooth - an absolute must. And iPhone music integration is vital these days. Anything to stave off Steve Wright. Not loving the show, Steve... -
Not often companies respond to criticism so well. Fair play Kevin.

We've submitted the email request to the chief exec at the DVLA and are waiting on their response. I hope they'll accept our offer of publicity for this because it's needed.

probably missed this in the budget
James Baggott replied to used car seller's topic in General Dealer Chat
I like the rolling tax exemption. That's handy. The tax on my Fiesta XR2 and Peugeot 205 GTI adds up to quite a lot for two cars I use very rarely. It's good to know one day they'll be exempt... -
This is an interesting thread chaps. I know Kevin and his team care passionately about customer service. Have you tried contacting he guys at ATM and discussing this with them?

I'm working on getting an interview with the DVLA on this. Made a few email enquiries so bear with me...

James Baggott replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
Me too. Wasn't the easiest of reads was it. Why can't they just be straight with us all? -
