  1. Hey guys I just wanted to see your stance on customers demanding refunds on third party warranties they have purchased? They're mentioning the 30 day cooling off period and have already been in touch with the warranty provider however they obviously have to go through myself to obtain a refund. Am I legally required to refund the warranty when it was purchased at the point of buying the car and present on the invoice? Cheers

  3. This is true, however I find the local punters pleasant to deal with, there's a few bad eggs that occasionally come in. Reminds me of a recent Peugeot 107 in Met. Red on an 06 with 96K on the clock listed for £1495 no offers, this lad turned up on a train and handed over £1100 and that was apparently all the money he had. I said nicely, we need the full price or you'll have to get the train back home.. 20 minutes later after a trip around the corner to the bank he stumps up the full amount.
  4. My market is £800 - £3000 cars so it's what I would usually buy but I would pay about £800 privately and they usually need little bits doing. Citroen C1s / 107s / Aygo's are all shit cars I know but they sell good so it's what I like stocking as they usually fly out if priced right. This particular one was being sold by Arnold Clark, which vendors would you avoid? Apologies if I'm asking too many questions, I'm not asking to be spoon fed just looking for some honest advice ☺
  5. Hello We have bought all our stock privately, have previously bought a few from Copart so know what to expect in terms of lemons. We've recently opened a BCA account and have been placed on the silver tier, I had my eye on a 2008 Citroen C1 Grade 5 with 90K on the clock at BCA Preston today but never attended (currently house bound as suffering from a severe case of man flu), I called BCA to try and get the hammer price but they have a policy that they cannot give the prices out unless you've won that vehicle. Cap clean was something like £1020 but with it being marked as Grade 5, how much would you expect it to sell for at auction? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as I'm totally uneducated when it comes to trade auctions.

We use PayPal, cash arrives in our account instantly and then we're able to transfer it into our bank account, again instantly At first you have a £2K restriction per 7 days, anything after the £2K is held for 21 days and then released. However they review the restriction after you have exceeded the £2K and increase it (in our case it is £6K every 7 days). Have a look at it as the all singing all dancing PayPal card reader is only £70 with no monthly commitment.

  12. I would take everyone's advice and make your own decision. I'm 20 just shy of turning 21 and I have made a good few quid so far doing cars priced at sub £1500. There's money in the bread and butter market, every industry is as saturated as ours so don't be fooled into thinking it will be any easier in ten years time. At 20 your overheads will be massive like mine but don't let it put you off, I'm not planning to put myself in debt and borrow £10 - £20K based on a whim that I "may" do reasonably well, everything is self financed. Think about all cars before you buy them, take calculated risks and be prepared to take a hit sometimes. Don't buy expensive stock if you can't afford it, it's better to have volume than higher price tags in this day and age. I am a fresh face to the motor trade although my partner has experience.

  14. Jimbo - I know it's not something one should advertise but I specialise in that "junky" stuff and it does really well. I buy a lot of our stock from other traders like yourself who either aren't interested due to the small margins / potential problems or it would look completely out of place on their pitch. We're based in St Helens.. so if you're somewhat close by drop me a message with what you have at the moment.
  15. Hey guys, I buy from a few local dealers around here and take all their part ex's of them.. recently they have been quiet and as a result no stock for myself. I did previosly obtain stock privately and from auction but that's no longer viable. Do any of you guys in the north west have part ex's old cars that you can't get rid of? I have some prime space next to a road side so this is how I shift all the old cheapies. My mobile is 07538 652 103, buying in bulk is preferred but not required, they don't have to be perfect and even if there is no logbook or MOT. Cheers Jacob
  16. Also based in the North West (St Helens).. we've been going for about a year, you seem to have everything covered.. give us a shout if you need any recovery / transporting doing. We have a spec lift and a flat bed recovery truck.
  17. Dean, A Frames and Dolly's are good for occasional use but I would not risk carrying anything worth money on either of these. We now have two single car transporters and have £25K coverage for the collection and delivery of vehicles (I must say this adds a fair whack onto your insurance). We use them for our own stock vehicles but also have contracts in place with local garages and fill in any empty back loads with websites such as Movex. Who ever you choose make sure he has the right insurance as there's too many bent people using 3.5t transporters on a standard VAN policy.

In all fairness I had zero experience in the motor trade industry (My Brother and Dad have had years of experience), we started out with a niche business model to get the initial money in (focusing on a particular sports model car which seemed to work out quite well for us), we then bought a recovery truck, able to buy cars and garage equipment (tyre machines, balancers, 2 post ramps, etc), moved into our own premise etc. We now do Servicing & Repairs, Recovery and Car / Part sales. You don't need a ton of money.. yeah it is an expensive industry but every business is expensive to start these days..
