  1. How confident are you of this Nick or is it one of those "uncertainties" of the CRA. 8 weeks of motoring, engine blows up.. two options. 1. Car is in warranty - Customer seeks repair at no direct cost 2. Car isn't in warranty - Customer pays for repair On a £6K car with mileage like that I'm sure he was offered a third party warranty and refused to pay thus going with the FREE 30 day warranty (self warranted). In my opinion it's the customers problem, out of warranty and 2 months after sale so OP shouldn't be put in such a situation or made to feel responsible whatsoever.
  2. I haven't been able to join either.. What is the point in having a freaking private section for traders when no one is able to join it apart from those that pester..!
  3. Does the customer not know that a BMW uses 1L of oil per 1000 miles. My advice to you is don't give up, I am also going through a hard time but still surviving. The odds are against us newbies from the start and if we can make it past all the bollocks that this job brings then you know how rewarding it can be
  4. Extremely unlucky, I don't think BMW will pay out personally or that you will win a court case as they have issued a recall. How did you buy the car as in the Sales Of Goods Act it states that everyone in the supply chain (all sellers) are responsible for having recalls done and making sure the vehicle is roadworthy.

Lots to learn, lots of money to win/lose and mistakes to be made. Selling cars at an auction is one thing but selling cars to punters is completely different. I would start of in the cheaper market sub £3K, have you thought about overheads? Where will you operate from?
  6. You say 10 a week like it's nothing.. What are your margins like
  7. James, cheers for that I will do a separate spreadsheet for my stock book then. Just to summarize, we've got a spreadsheet with each individual workings out for all the cars, a stock book spreadsheet and what else do you guys have? I just want to cover all the bases and then I will confirm everything with our accountant and see what she says.
  8. Thanks EPV, my background is IT, Systems engineer but I've never been excel savvy.. I shall do it this way. Is your summary also your stock book or is this maintained separately? Cheers
  9. Good evening all I'm drowning in paperwork and working solely from paper just isn't manageable anymore. I would like to use spreadsheet(s) rather than use a bloated DMS and wondering what you guys use to keep all the accounting as straight forward and manageable as possible. If anyone can share examples of their spreadsheets and layouts then that would be greatly appreciated.

  13. Oh man.. My head hurts after reading this.
  14. Dave it was a 3pc clutch kit (with the hydraulic cylinder) however it's just shat it's self.
  15. I'll play it by here, they are going away Friday morning, I will be delivering the car to them Thursday afternoon so ofcourse I want everything to be right for them before they go away, I have reassured them for now.
  16. Hi guys In a bit of a pickle here a customer has bought a car, brand new clutch fitted prior to them buying it.. however slave cylinder has gone and contaminated the new clutch. They're now thinking about a refund, however I've offered a loan car and promised to get it fixed in 3 days. What would you guys normally do in a situation like this, without providing a refund? Cheers
  17. There's a pretty close knit circle at BCA Preston, newcomers get trotted up as Trade Vet said.. the quality is about as good as Belle Vue and that's poo.
  18. Where's this mate and is it up for rent?
  19. I did wonder with a name like Paddy
  20. I believe they ship them to Spain for the chassis repairs as it is legal over there? Source: My mechanic works at Nissan.
  21. We have trade sale only reciepts, states the car is not roadworthy, spares or repairs, usual spiel.
  22. See this is where it gets messy, it's why I'll probably just send all the shitters to the block from now on. I use St Helens Motor Auctions (one of them cash only type of places). A local AH - St Helens Motor Auctions, it's not worth paying massive entry fees with BCA / EPMA.
