  1. Bank hols either go one way or the other. Either the auctioneer will take any bid but most of the time every trader + extra private punters turn out & bid everything up. Youre correct, Good Friday was one of the worst days at the block I’ve seen - pure shite making clean money.
  2. An auctioneer is legally allowed to submit bids on behalf of the vendor UP TO THE RESERVE, however I believe it is illegal above the reserve. Personally I’d outlaw if but I suspect it’s been legal for hundreds of years - perhaps someone knows the date?
  3. Tbf if you can’t afford your stock I tend to agree as I suspect them stocking loans can suck you in. All foreign to me thankfully.
  4. I’ve never read so much shite about using trade plates as I have reading this particular topic. Some of you must be old women. Police pulling over trade vehicles on the MID with trade plates in the window??? What a load of bollocks - who on here is regularly pulled over by the police in such circumstances? (Answer: no one).
  5. I’ve also had exactly this from a trader in a town 10 miles away & the stupid c*** even left the travel details to my postcode for about 6 months. Anyway I changed my adverts to freshen them up & to differentiate them because I had punters asking what my connection was to this other branch (and tbh the state of his cars I didn’t want any association with him).
  6. I can understand & do so myself. All of my cars are driven by me before sale (it’s part of my sales patter) & I have ALMOST zero comebacks. In addition to this I ask myself why do I need one more car as I have plenty of stock. Finally, cos I’m greedy & don’t want to pay for road tax - that’s what my trade plates are for.
  7. The important word here is SOME. Many of you seem to think punters are scouring the internet searching for every review site know to man - most do not & the few who do don’t know what they’re looking at anyway. I know I’m playing to an empty audience here but I cannot understand why so many professionals in the trade think the world revolves around online reviews. All vastly over rated in my opinion, believe me, the success of your business relies upon your stock & your pricing - not reviews.
  8. A few Mickey Mouse reviews on a Sunday wouldn’t result in a business closing on a Monday. I think many of you hold far too much stock in the power of reviews.
  9. The burglars or the busybodies?
  10. You’re welcome. There’ll still be a slight ozone/chlorine smell but it’ll be better than the original stink you’re trying to eliminate. Just try 2 hours first cos 4 hours on a real stinker does leave the car smelling like a swimming pool
  11. “Gary isn't a true m9 he tried to touch me in the back of a 1998 Ford escort estate that I had come to view safe to say I won't be returning”
  12. Them ozone machines work fantastically. I’ve had one for about 6 months & they blitz out an interior, really smelly will need 4 hours worth & remember to ventilate (open the doors & boot) the car for hours afterwards otherwise the interior will stink of ozone.
  13. Saab must of copied the idea for 9-3 amplifiers under the passenger seat. Ideal when the Vectra, sorry I mean 9-3, scuttle drain bungs up and floods the carpet along with shorting out the fan and then said amplifier. Who the f*** comes up with these ideas? I know! Probably the same numpty who also put Saab fuel filters near the cill in the path of road spray & debris thrown up from the o/s/f tyre.
  14. ....I hope their servicing is better than their descriptions of their p/xs on DA.
  15. The comments MAY be removed depending upon ebay’s judgement but the rating will not be removed. Tbh I’m not sure why people get so upset about the occasional bad rating - any half reasonable person/customer understands you can’t please 100% of the people 100% of the time. I know it’d be nice to face up to these people & scare the hell out of them but as most are faceless keyboard warriors I realised years ago that there is no point getting wound up by their opinions.
  16. What’s this? Hollow threats of court action? You sound like a mug punter! Sorry but do you honestly think Google will be shitting themselves receiving a solicitors letter & bend over backwards to satisfy your every wish? If so, think again. Btw, in the case of eBay if negative feedback hasn’t breached their policies then eBay require a court order before they’ll remove it. Perhaps sleep on it and here’s a serious suggestion - DO NOT SEARCH & READ REVIEWS. I stopped giving a toss years ago about the views of disgruntled idiots. If you think a few bad reviews are going to torpedo your business then I suggest you need to take a step back and start thinking rationally.
  17. Co. Durham & Cleveland forces use local main dealers for their panda car maintenance & have done for years - I used to chase up the dealers for the service history. I suspect as times have changed & the chill winds of cutbacks bite so the maintenance regimes been ‘slackened’.
  18. You are absolutely correct not to refund his deposit. Half you got it off your chest I suspect that in order to remove the feedback you’d have to get a court injunction (or something like that) in order to force Google - let’s be honest, you won’t go to them lengths. Would this be the correct place to yet again reiterate “f*** reviews, they aren’t worth a w***, they can write whatever they like as I’ll never see it because I don’t read reviews”? (I will await the inevitable comments saying I live in the dark ages from those of you who kowtow to keyboard warrior scum).
  19. Cash is king. Potless credit card punters can sling their hook, there are still plenty of punters out there with “cash on hip”. An old fashioned view but they haven’t made cash undesirable - yet! Although that is the eventual aim of governments.
  20. Every week or two when this question pops up I answer “use your trade plates”.
  21. Yes, not too long ago they had a full service before being blocked & anything with “issues” was clearly auctioned as such. All of a sudden it was as if someone flicked a switch - no declaration of problems, service history no longer given, no pre-auction service. God knows why or how they now make book money.
  22. Years ago I used to flog quite a few ex-police & ambulance service cars. All faults would be declared on the lot sticker, they used to be bought for sweet f.a. at the block, destickering, replace the radio & spend £150 on a painter for the roof and whoosh! Out of the door for a good profit within days. Then all of a sudden about 5 years ago they started making bottom book money with no fault declarations made & whenever I’ve taken any notice they still do - no good to me at that money. If I’m buying a scruffy Focus estate with holes in the roof, screw holes in the dashboard, no radio and a needing a good wash & brush up then I expect to pay peanuts for it.
