    if you need a car, december or june, you need a car ! i dont open up between xmas and new year, too many bored tyrekickers about, phone only, and only if they explain theyre desperate to view/need. if memory serves me right pre xmas took a 2 or 3 depos last year, in no rush was collecting in new year so that was something to look forward in new year. Warning, folk get this idea over xmas that theyre going to trade a few in the new year [ "i used to do this job"] and turn up at the block jan, they have the parkers guide, and inflate prices, by the end of feb theyve found out paint doesnt dry, mechanics are bloody frozen and dont rush jobs, cars dont dry out, phone hasnt rung because there adverts all wrong, they've not fully worked out how much they've actually got IN a car, so by april its "i used to do this job" [ no you didnt mate] . but as i said, if you need a car, you need a car, and if they phone me and they dont to me seem keen, they may phone you and you may take there money

    All to familiar, much much worse on facebook market place (sold my personal car on there a year ago), bloody phoned pinged every other minute with stupid offers, even the reasonable offers never got back in touch!

    hi Mikey 360 it depends on what stock you sell it was as twinged on if you do first car stuff then it can be very good all the way from pre xmas till early jan however this m,arket changes all the time and last xmas was rubbish for me but this year might be better more importantly make sure if you can to buy your stock before xmas for the following month because every man and his boy gets the xmas blues and think they can sell cars for a living so come january they all go down the block and everything turns to telephone numbers

    Probably not even a billy. Probably a tracksuit wearing plastic trader who’ll hope you agree to £2k and then turn up and try and chip you another £500 and then put the car up at £1850 and make a week’s money to him

    Facebook is going to be my next marketing spend. But I will pay for targeted advert campaigns rather than advertise everything and anything on one of the groups.

    Location and stock profile seem to be a big factor for dealers from similar topics I’ve read We have a stock of around 20 on a roadside pitch Personally I’ve found Autotrader to be an extremely expensive waste of time, gumtree was even worse - but at least it was only 1/5 of the price! We have had a lot of success from Facebook, we sponsor ads and update our page regularly, do competitions etc, you have to mix it with non-sales related posts too Which seems to keep customers following you. But for what we spend on there it easily outweighs any other platform! It’s obviously not an out and out selling platform though and that’s it’s only downfall (comments/lowball offers/idiots) I’d just love a motors/car gurus/F&F to deliver results for the price but none seem to work for us!

    My advice: You are more likely to succeed starting an airline than to create a new e-commerce platform for car sales. I do wish you luck though.

    Autotrader works absolutely superbly. You don't have to be top of the page. It's the best investment a car dealer can make, a single advertising platform that works and that is reassuringly expensive so it deters some bargain hunters but more importantly it deters a lot of bargain basement offers. Costs me £12K a year (I must have fewer cars than you) and these £12K are the only reason I even have a business. I also advertise on eBay Classifieds and Motors.co.uk and CarGurus have put me back on their free package after I cancelled my paid pack. eBay 1,2 a month Motors 1 every couple of months Car Gurus 2 in a year. Stock of 14 and around 9-10 sales a month, most from AT. And not cheap.

    some of these parts finders used to be in business purely to harvest genuine email addresses i got sick of hundreds of spam i wont use them anymore its ebay or no way

    if you treat them with respect if they deserve it it pays back nicely make your bids clear remember once they know you they know how your body language bids go whilst you are being discreet then often they will knock the car down to you or often they would work in the background to get the provisional bid passed for you this obviously was when i used to live in these places i guess they all drink very posh coffee and dont mix with the hoi pilloi anymore?
