Civic type r knock sensor

The car is a 2009 and after a clutch change started putting the eml on (knock sensor), we fitted another knock sensor and it still put the eml on (knock sensor), I was advised to take it to an auto electrician (VSS Sunderland, very well regarded) who advised it must be the ECU as the sensor was fine, they sourced one from ebay, opened it up and swopped the data, they also pointed out the clutch change had no bearing on the problem, they checked the live data and everything is working as it should but they have hit a dead end on how to fix, I have even filled it up with super plus in case that was the issue, i am now at a loss, does anyone have any ideas?

It’s due to the awkward design of the starter, it’s very easy to burst the knock sensor when removing starter motor to remove gearbox, I have done it myself. I would bet a months wage it’s either a faulty £7 eBay knock sensor or they have broken a site at the sensor. It will definitely not be the ecu.

They’ve checked all that out apparently, ecu taking to the knock sensor and vice versa, the first mechanic did say when they changed the clutch they smashed the sensor

Had this on a family owned S2000 a few years back, tried a cheap one, didn't work. Paid extra for a honda oem one, worked a treat. 

Also make sure that there's nothing stuck in the plug hole, from memory the connection can snap easily add stay in the hole.

that was my first thought but surely the auto electrician would have checked all was well in the signal (it was)

a knock sensor is a glorified microphone

so

have you replaced the broken one with a proper part ie dealer or eqiv

was the data seen, live data or just that it was showing working on some generic machine

its highly possible its a wiring issue

never worked on these, think they is huggli anyway 99/100 when i hear specialists say

Knock sensors have very specific torque settings, and must not be exceeded. 

Try a genuine one, the Eurocarparts one could have been somebody’s old unit that they sent back for a credit.

But if the fault wasn’t there before the job and only appeared after they touched it surely it can’t be the ecu. As stated put a genuine sensor on it and get someone with a scope to check it if there’s further issues. Look for the simple answer to the problem not the difficult one.

If you still think it’s the ecu I’ll buy the car if it’s going cheap

+1 for genuine sensor - the frequency will be wrong on the Euro one.

The rest of the euro parts are rubbish . 

Fit a Honda Sensor , Not Clutch that caused this prob .

they told me it would be £500 if they had fixed it, it sticks as they tell you how clever they are and miss the obvious, they even told me to try super unleaded

That baffles me, at my workshop if we break something we foot the bill to fix it, if they broke the knock sensor it’s their fault not yours, I’d be finding a more reliable workshop if I were you.
