Vauxhall Diesels

Recommended Posts

We had a lot of problems a few years back with the 1.9 Vectras/Astras/9-3s

many flywheels and egr valves/injectors/engine lights

Even on 40-60k cars.

Anwyay, I miss selling them as they do shift on quick, my question is if you buy the Automatic version I'm guessing that rules out DMF issues?

I really want to get back into the 9-3 and 9-5 TDi's and see a lot of them are Auto.

Cheers.

Sadly, the Vauxhall Diesel scares me to death.

The Insignia is starting to drop down into my price bracket and I'm led to believe they are not much better, if at all.

Yeah, I've had a couple of Insignia 1.8 petrols that have been fine, but I believe the Insignia 6 speed diesel has a questionable gearbox as well as the other issues?

With regards to Vectras. I bet I have sold 30-40 petrol Vectras in the past 3 years and still never had one returned, except for windowash not coming out of the back wiper (easy fix lol).

Not bad, that.

I've heard so many bad stories about Insignia's that I'll not touch one.....I personally know of one gearbox that destroyed itself at 60k miles, a petrol where the dash illumination, dials etc just disappeared and a 1.8 that head gasket went at 45k miles. All bought from main dealers and to be fair they sorted the gearbox and swapped the customer out of the head gasket one but the dashboard that has a mind of its own is on going.

Never really had a problem with the Astra/Vectra diesels apart from the odd EGR valve that always looks a lot worse than it is when they start chucking loads of black smoke out the backend but cheap enough to fix not to worry me about stocking them. I won't touch a 1.7 diesel Astra though because nearly everyone I've sold or looked at has had/has got its turbo rattling and whistling away.

I think my petrol 9-5 estate is about to die, it's the old 4 speed auto and I've really liked it. Possibly being replaced by a Honda Jazz. Parts are really easy to get hold of for the Saab to.

Strange we all see things. Personally, I'll only ever by an Astra Diesel with  1.7 unit in it.

It is odd what puts us off certain cars......I guess a couple of bad experiences will put you off any car for a good while. I used to sell a lot of BMW 1 series at one point until in the space of 6 months I had two rattly cam chains and one with a diff problem - I havn't stocked one since - then everyone you talk to lets you know what a common problem it is!!

DMF is pretty common on the Saabs. As is EGR valves, and swirl valves. I've specialised in SAABs for years, aslong as you know what you are looking for and where to look you should be fine.

I used to run a fleet of insignias and passats both cars were much trouble but luckily they were new so under warranty, to be fair they were used as courtesy cars so driven quite hard, the most reliable cars on fleet were by the the lexus is220d and is250 petrol
