57 LR Sport HSE TDV8 with 1 Owner & 9k Miles - Price?

Hello CD Collective, 

I'm usually fairly competent with pricing, even with older low mileage stuff (we also have a 96 Elise with 8k miles, which has been fine to price), but I bought a one owner Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE with 9000 miles the other day and I'm left scratching my head as to what we could ask. Its clearly not the type of car to simply just add a flat margin on top of the purchase price. 

Its been serviced every year by the supplying dealer, right up to 2017 (300miles driven since), so its pretty special. 

Any input/advice would be great.

I hear you, very tough call this one ..............

Up here in NW I don't know of anyone who would buy that.

I'm sure you are well aware that due to the fact it has sat around most of it's life, unless it's been in a heated and de humidified Garage when not in use it is a potential nuclear time bomb.

Being negative Warranty and CRA could be an absolute minefield on that old beastie ;)

That said I'd test the water at £14,995 and get a really good specialist Warranty, or be prepared to refund it within the first 6 months ;)

How about EBay it, starting at a bit more than you paid and see if a couple of Rangeyites bid it up silly, can always remove it if it's not making the dollars ;)

Hopefully you nicked it (metaphorically speaking) :D

Final piece of advise, if practical, if I were thee I'd tax it for 6 months on DD and drive it on a few really long runs, daily drive it a while, and if nothing nasty surfaced I'd then have a lot more confidence of not getting my arse bit ;)

£16950.......cheapest 09 @ 30k appears to be £18500 .......you must have bought it at the door. BTW I have only had 1 or 2 of these over the years ( too frightened) ,so only guessing.

I've had to do a Body lift on a few over the years, just to do a relatively cheap parts replacement ;)

It is the labour hours to replace say an exhaust cross pipe, (and a few other bits), fine if like me you are doing it as a retail jobbie for billy bunter, but if you have sold the Car and it's down to you have to pay an expert to do a body lift then it's a real wanker !!

And don't even consider using anyone other than a well trusted expert or you will either end up never seeing the Car again, or getting it back absolutely fucked !!

Ask a local to me restaurant owner all about that, sent his Disco TDV6 away last year to an English Specialist, (I was told I was too expensive), he also gave them £5000 up front payment :lol::lol::lol: ......................

Next thing Police are banging on his door, his car has been broken up and sold for spares and " 'erbert" motors have vanished into the night, interpol involved, guys captured, but he's down about £30k and very little chance of ever seeing any money back .................... Gotta sell a lot of Fish and Chip Suppers to recover that sort of money :rolleyes:

there is a true specialist of these i know personally and he calls them techno shite

who in their right mind would buy a second hand car that needs its jelly mould taking off to swap out a lambda

You may find this strange Dave but most car buyers haven’t a clue about the mechanics of it. I’d say 95% of people who are likely to buy the OP’s car wouldn’t even know what a Lamda sensor is, let alone what needs to come off to replace one. 

I think sometimes the mechanical minded salesman among us forget that whilst you love tinkering around with engines and enjoy that part of the job, most people either don’t have a clue or don’t want to know!

I completely agree with you, up until the point said folks get quoted "from" £2400 labour to replace an exhaust pipe, (plus ££££ for all the rusty manky bits that all fall apart whilst you are doing said job) .................

Then they soon sit up and start yelling (fuckin' humongous laughing emoji) :lol:

Yeah I can imagine that suddenly sharpens up their knowledge of the subject!

Exhausts? Body off?? FFS!! Someone at the block told me the other week that the turbo actuator had siezed on one in their showroom but thankfully they got it freed off with the help of WD40 cos the body has to come off to access the turbo. Dunno if this is true but I’ll stick with CRVs - EVERY job on a RRS seems to involve BIG money.

If its the left turbo I've heard of panels being cut out of the passengers footrest to access and welded back afterwards :o

Pro's can get thh body off in 3 hours these days...

rtv'd more likely,last time i welded up the back of a dashboard it didnt go well:(:lol:

might be 3 hours to get the body off but it wont be 3 hours to put it back

plus how many blades did they go through

Pro's they are not :o

3 hrs on a new vehicle yes, but when they get older every bolt is seized solid and needs cutting, wiring plugs are minging and the wires just fall out of the terminals, brake pipe ends snap off etc etc ..................

Then there is a body shell stuck on your lift for 3 weeks or more while Land Rover Stealer gets all the busted clips, connectors, 'special' shoulder bolts etc etc etc because they stock fuck all nowadays .................... 

And believe me, because of my location, I am an expert at getting rotten seized stuff undone to avoid trashing it, but all that takes time, and time = £££££ 

The 3 hr brigade are far from experts, there will be wiring and pipework left hanging due to broken plastic clips, bolts left out because they are snapped off in captives, other fixings just plain left over at the end of the job then binned by 'erbert, and the result is a wrecked vehicle that rattles, squeaks and pops fault messages all the way to the block .............. or worse :rolleyes:

I run a Disco 3 TDV6 with 80k, bought it from main agents 7 years ago.

This had a new Turbo fitted by LR at €5k (in France) and I have just given the car it’s 10 year service, all fluids, axles, transfer box, gearbox, timing belt(s), had both EGR’s blanked mechanically and electrically + a remap - cost = (trade remember) £2,800 and I supplied most of the parts.

All that’s left now is to replace the centre panel suspension switch (it is only the switch).

Despite all this preventable maintenance, I dread the day someone buys it, which is why it is up at £14k or it stays with me.
