Another negative review, whats your take on this

Someone texted him asking if him if he took credit cards - he replied saying that the 'customer' could have asked with some manners.

Customer then said 'I was only going to put £200 on a card, pay the rest by bank transfer' - Car was £6k (sure you were pal, sure you were)

Customer then posted screenshots on Facebook group 'Slamber-City' - a nasty group with 150,000 internet trolls disguised as 'car enthusiasts'

Some of them then post reviews etc on mateys business, because its 'hilarious'.

-Same people who have been mentioned on 'this morning' for bullying Katie Prices son.

I don't find these troll reviews funny.

Individually, they are sometimes a little amusing - but you can't remove them. And from a customers point of view, when you see a business with 1000 1* reveiws would you bother looking through them? Or just thinks - bad business?

You can respond to a google review if you have a gmail account, so if you havent yet, get one set up, I did specifically to respond to a google review. Then respond in a cool and calm manner (so maybe not just after a negative review has gone on) so that anyone who does put value in reviews can see who was right and who was wrong. Keep it factual and if necessary explain what you have changed in your business - this could be explaining more clearly that all deposits are non refundable or that you only take a car off sale for 3 days etc. It just shows you are responsible in what you do and fair. And respond to good reviews too, if only to say thank you!

I'd not bother with solicitors letters - if you threaten him and then dont follow through his mates may start filling google for you or booking fictitious appointments etc to wind you up. respond on google, and in the words of Elsa from my daughters favourite movie 'Let it Go'

We give a separate deposit slip receipt. It quite clearly states on there deposits are non refundable. Plus we take time to read it out to them and get them to sign. They get a copy.

I replied to him and kept it calm and factual but he re wrote his review after that and laid it on even thicker. I had him on the phone this morning ranting at me. I have had cargurus on the phone this afternoon to inform me he's trying to leave a review on there but they weren't happy with it's content and blocked him. It's clear that he's a man on a mission but fuck him

A few Mickey Mouse reviews on a Sunday wouldn’t result in a business closing on a Monday. I think many of you hold far too much stock in the power of reviews.

I think reviews are significant to people - read the detail on these and its clear they are made up and a grudge which shouldnt stop anyone buying from him.However a few genuine bad ones will make the difference to some customers.

The important word here is SOME. Many of you seem to think punters are scouring the internet searching for every review site know to man - most do not & the few who do don’t know what they’re looking at anyway. 

I know I’m playing to an empty audience here but I cannot understand why so many professionals in the trade think the world revolves around online reviews. All vastly over rated in my opinion, believe me, the success of your business relies upon your stock & your pricing - not reviews.

I guess we all work so hard and take pride in our service, that it can’t help but hurt when some moron leaves a negative review. 

It’s like when you have that occasional screamer- it can get you down and you can be guilty of forgetting all the hundreds of cars you’ve sold with no bother.

Same goes for the quiet months- you soon forget about all the good periods and can get down. 

It’s important to remember that you ‘can’t argue with a fool’ and move on and don’t let the odd bad review worry you.

the problem is the generation now ie under 28 at least will read reviews and will believe what they are told

so as much as within reason i do not take notice of reviews either i do, because i check trip advisor before booking a hotel,i have a lifetime of knowledge to help me cut the wheat from the chaf but everything is now coming from the nanny state so people aren't conditioned to think for them selves, this is why you can sell a brand new car via the internet car unseen

We sell a fair few ( second hand) cars unseen inc delivery! Often they don’t even ring up. All by email.  Always amazes me but that’s the world nowadays. Gotta embrace it or lose out I guess.

You can sue him for loss of profit,unless the deal was subject to finance,if he was part exchanging a car thats yours as well.(specific performance i think its called) also a lot of firms out there will do no win no fee for this type of problem.

Tbh a small minority have done this for years. I’m stuff up to generally £4K & over the years I’ve sold a few like that in the UK, years ago 1 or 2 a month went to Ireland unseen along with a similar figure into Eastern Europe for what was, 10 years ago, a newly open market.

Tbh I think punters are far more cautious & I’ve only sold & sent one unseen in the last year. 

I found it was usually stuff at the top end of my price range - the export stuff was going for profit but anything in the UK seemed to go to a big house with flash cars (so the delivery driver told me on a few occasions) so I guess they were a third car (usual oldish 4x4s) & not a major purchase for them hence buying unseen.

10 years ago any shitty old 150,000 mile van with a kitchen unit thrown in the back & one socket for an external plug-in passed as a CHEAP!! Budget Mobile Home needs tidying! (don’t laugh, I sold a couple of such turds. In hindsight, unbelievably the fact they had no windows was no deterrent!) and anything resembling what you’d consider as a proper old motor home sold blind within days because punters were shitty frightened of loosing a gem. Funnily enough I never once had any sort of comeback even though some of the sills on old Transits had to be swept up into a carrier bag.

I am considering re-profiling my stock to £3-4k cars.  

All the lumpy stuff people want finance (I don't have FCA), I have too much tied up in the stuff, so lengthy stock times start to hurt and I don't seem to make any more per deal relative to the outlay.

Most people (the ones I want to deal with) can lay their hands on £3-4k or use a CC and the phone rings a lot more for this gear IMO.

That's my findings in my limited couple of months trading.
