Stephen 21 Posted July 14, 2017 Hi Looking for some help and advice really, thinking about trading from home not massive probs 6 cars total at anyone time ive got enough space on drive. Looking to sell cars 4-6k roughly and nothing special standard cars really. I know I sound massively naïve, but do you think this can work from home part time? Ive got a contact at a big vw chain that I can get their trade ins at good prices also got friend with a garage for repairs and valets. Not trying to make a killing just something extra to give me a few comforts in life then who knows if I can build it possibly get a unit and change the day job. Any help and criticism would be grateful just want to pick brains of experienced operators Thanks in advance

You may be treated 'robustly' by some members who feel that everyone needs to spend a minimum 4 years purgatory working at a large dealership before venturing out on their own. The reality is that many started the same as you, but don't want to admit to it.
DBDlloyds 18 Posted July 14, 2017 Hi Stephen, I wish you luck. Look back through the posts from a couple of weeks ago and you will find all the info you need. look for ( I want to be a minted car dealer thread and one the day before titled New Trader. Stephen 21 Posted July 14, 2017 Yeah I know it isn't going to be easy but I'm definitely not afraid of some hard work and advice good and bad greatly recieved
Max Branning 149 Posted July 14, 2017 Just do it and see how you get on. To say whether it will be successful or not is hard to say...one person may start off with a couple on the doorstep and in 2 years have a 40 car pitch - it is achievable....but on the other hand someone else may fail miserably and go back stacking bananas at tesco's after a few months that is achievable as well ! Just give it your best shot and let nature take its course.
Mojo121 229 Posted July 14, 2017 I wouldn't jump in at 4-6k'ers with no experience - that market is crowded as hell as it is and finance is daddy there. Start off at bangers and work your way up. The losses/ mistakes you'll make are easier swallowed. If you insist; do you know what a rattly dmf sounds like? Do you know what a good vs bad diesel engine sounds like? Do you have a cheap mechanic? Etc etc.
Stephen 21 Posted July 14, 2017 Ok thanks for responses will take your advice, yeah I know what good/bad engine sounds like and would possibly pick out dmf did engieeering for over 10 year previous but no experience on cars il take your advice and think about cheaper cars and start from there thanks
It's me 615 Posted July 14, 2017 selling cars is easy finding nice cars at a price you can sell them on for and lets be honest here if your trading from home you need to undercut the competition to get people coming up your drive is the hard part consider specialising this way you can sell lots of cars off one advert get to know your marque and its foibles create an interest in any crowded market just dont do it on my patch or ill send the boys round
Stephen 21 Posted July 14, 2017 Ok thanks still researching market As for boys foot flow any kind I think is good looking forward to it :-)
