For me videos work brilliantly, I like to keep them under 3 minutes, just a quick walk around giving an honest appraisal of the car, no cheesy phrases, no jokey banter, (I don’t find many comedians funny so why would people find me funny) no put on voice like Alan partridge, just be yourself and you can’t go wrong. Most customers mention they had seen the video and it gave them confidence in coming down to view the car. I think most people hate the sound of their own voice, it’s horrible!! but once you get used to it and into a good routine it really is easy and for the sake of 2-3 minutes it’s well worth doing!

For me I'd say when I got to 3 years it started to click into place, but what I wish I had done more of in the beginning was no matter how stupid the question was just ask it, who cares if you sound like a plank, its the only way to learn, I've learnt something new today, we've painted a bonnet on an old 54 plate golf swapper we've got and it looks great would have cost at least £150 at the bodyshop, your never too old to learn

I love high mileage stuff, normally been sat on the motorway most of its life, rarely have to change a clutch on higher miles, but once I get a car with 50k - 60k I have less luck LIKE

Ive covered the plate with the original 12 plate, would I be best off doing a v62 and then putting the original plate on?

Took a Volvo in swap, it must have the worst private number plate for a 2012 model, the plate is CO08DEZ, the last owner was called Derren...Dez, the bloody car looks like a 2008 model not 2012, at the time I thought bugger it I'll keep the plate on and put the car in trade, then I changed my mind and sent of the doc to put it on retention but have had a letter back saying I'll have to put a new owner on the log book to put it on retention, another bloody owner and more rigmarole, is there an easier way to do this? private number plates are not my expertise.

A few years ago the opposite happened to me, the dimwit polish painter parked one of my cars outside his unit, went out for his dinner then when he came back it had gone, he thought it had been stolen, we even reported it stolen, 3 days later got a call from the police to say it had been towed away for not having any tax and was in the compound, I think it cost around £300 to get it back

Nope it really is tiny, right at the bottom of the headlight/bumper, I am not a tight bastard (I know all tight people say this ) but every time I get a "German Whip" they cost me a fortune and I say never again willI I just spend money willy nilly!!! if it had full history then yea maybe buts its high mileage with just 3 stamps.....fuck it ill just buy some of them eye lash head light things.....should put off all the boy racers!!!

Got a BMW 1 series, really clean thing but the headlight has a small crack right at the bottom just next to the bumper, Its not too bad but because I know its there I can't stop looking at the bloody thing, not to keen on paying £70 -£100 for a headlight so just wondered if theres any special stickers available for headlights

Can you only use the Pro xl 2k laquer once?

I don’t mind having my time wasted during the week, I can handle it, part of the job, but when somebody is desperate to see a car on a Sunday and is adamant they are ready buy and they then turn out to be time wasters it drives me up the wall, every time I say never again on a Sunday.

Can anybody recommend and good lacquer in a spray can for smart repairs?

Agreed, very good idea Love all the stuff chris fix does, this chap here does some brilliant simple videos thats really helped me, Im now confident refurbing alloys and doing small smart repairs, well worth following

Its too cheap, looks like your selling cars out the back of that container, do some decent photos, possibly a video appraisal, then put the price up to £1895 - £1995 everyone wants a cheap low mileage auto, if you haven't sold it after 2 ad then reduce it and get rid, good luck.

Im not normally one to moan about having a bad month, its part of the job but this month has been my worst ever, out of 23 cars in stock just 3 sold and and none of them were good margins!!!! strange job sometimes

Before you start thinking about selling finance on your cars or vans, personally I'd just concentrate on selling them first, build your business up and then the finance will slot into place, once your established, give close finance a call, they can help you with all your FCA Approval applications and will make it really easy, I sell stuff between 2k and 7k so I don't get a great deal of finance but if your looking to sell stuff above that bracket and have a stock of 15 - 20 you should get at least 2 -3 finance deals a month.

I've only ever had one car on finance and it lasted one month, I suppose I needed to get it out of my system, I bought a 12 month old Mini cooper S, when the first payment came out plus the sky high insurance I thought bugger this, theres no way Im spending all that money a month on something thats going down in value and went back my Ford Focus, is it just me that thinks like this? surely these pcp deals cant be that good? I understand your only paying the depreciation but, if your buying a 20k car after 3 years you going to have paid between 6k and 8k depreciation, surely its better to just buy a half decent car at 10k car and only lose a couple of grand but hey ho what do I know! Yes they throw them into auction, just have a look online at Bca and Manheim, hundreds of them!!

So basically you can't claim any vat back on a buyers fee you can only minimise the vat margin you pay?

So buy a car for £10000, indemnity fee £300, stock book purchase price £10300. Sell the car for £10300, then claim back the £60 vat???

I remember a few years ago when manheim stopped adding the vat on their invoices, I posted something on the Autotrader forum and David Horgan showed me this way of doing it, I didn't realise though if you don't make a profit to do it the other way

Haha yes it only took a year to get rid of the bloody thing!!!!
