If she's anything like my Mom it'll be "it's too low/small/it doesn't suit your father"
-
All's well that ends well. Hope your Dad enjoys the car.

When you get people saying "Oh nice car", and you're thinking "this pain in the arse?"
-
It's disgraceful. Obviously not saying Joe Bloggs who's in hardship should be imprisoned or have assets taken away, but crooks who take people's money unlawfully.
-
That's incredible...you would have thought bailiffs would be sent out to collect the money somehow? What a joke...you can still have him battered though

You are right in that I've seen cars with full history and they've come in with a blown engine and I'm baffled as to how. Meanwhile my brother had an L reg Mondeo that only died because we let it sit for too long while he was away, and mate had a Carisma that ran forever and he let the cambelt fail just to give him a reason to change cars, and neither of them had ever been to a main dealer. So yeah, there are exceptions, but it certainly helps with pricing and sales.

What I don't understand is while they're owing CCJS from what I assume are court cases they've lost, how are they still operating? So technically every trader out there could con every customer, lose in court and never pay? How are they getting away with that?! Also that first fella with the Ibiza isn't very bright if he'd rather lose £2200 than spend £500 putting the car right.

Service history means a lot in my experience. Almost any car we've bought with no history has been a bugger to sell, regardless of price range. Not all, but most of them. People suddenly think the mileage isn't genuine or that the cars never been looked after. (Genuine) service history usually means the car has been looked after, not abused, kept tidy etc. And certainly you've got a better shot at the engine running well if it's been regularly maintained.

That's fucking disgusting. Had a trader approach me at auction saying you can get stamps saying "Nationwide Autocentre" and fill up your service history. It was back when I'd first started trading. Never took him up on his offer, but it certainly answered my question about where this "Nationwide Autocentre" was that I'd seen in some service books. But to pretend it's been at a main dealer takes the biscuit.

This. Apart from Christmas Day. Even then if someone is coming to buy, I'll do it.

Man...Sounds like a truly rough day. Hope the weekend takes a better turn for you!

Lol I didn't take offence!

NOACROSS, my business partner needed a car to go to the airport and leave it there. Better to tie up a cheapo of sorts than one of the nicer cars which have had enquiries. At least if we lose a sale because the car isn't here, then it's not as much money potentially lost.

Nick, isn't this the same as fuel expenses? Or is this on top of fuel receipts?
-
Dave, I assume it's trial and error and see what works for each individual business. Or people talk from their own experience which is valid of course, but individual circumstances differ.

We didn't want to, but unfortunately it's the only car available to use as a run around right now, and we couldn't tax it any other way. This forum has me confused. On the one hand I get called out for using a stock car (when I got that ticket), and on the other hand others are doing the exact same thing and it's fine?
-
Yeah keeping it for a bit.

Thanks gentlemen!

Let him do the report at his own cost, but 1. Be wary of him being less than happy if he books and loses his money if the car sells in the meantime, and 2. Don't expect a sale out of this. AA/RAC are stupidly pendantic on inspections. Having said that, if he DOES buy, then you're in a better position as he'll be aware of faults.

Thank you! Keeping it while working through! Lol, no just a flurry of bad luck it seems, with cars going back after 2-3 weeks with stupid issues. For a couple of weeks it was like "Of COURSE that just happened. Why wouldn't it?" Which I think may attract more of the same? Law of attraction and all that? Hence my head not being in it with the paperwork. But it'll ALL be sorted tomorrow.

Hi everyone. Sorry to come at you with another question. Got a car we're running around and wanted to tax it online but it's disabled class. As far as I know you have to go into the Post Office and send off for a new V5 with a change of tax class, and tax it at the same time. You can't do it online. Am I right? Or is there a way to do it online? Thank you.

The prices depend on who's bidding. If Europeans are interested in the car, then the prices go more than the car's worth here. Copart are pretty sneaky with laying the responsibility on the buyer, so if your car does have a problem, then Copart is the way to shift it.
