  3. The difference between CAP and Glass's now on some vehicles is huge. I always do a few online checks of various sites and if I am buying at less than they are all advertised at I am happy to go with the deal. Some rarer performance cars are valued very low by the guides and in reality are worth a lot more.

  6. Some interesting cars mentioned. I used to pick whatever I fancied that had some road tax on it but now because of the new road tax rules I miss out on driving the cars I would really like to. No point putting a new owner on and taxing them so I have lost incentive to take in interesting cars now as I don't get to drive them. I know I could use my trade plates but its not practical to do that for everyday use let alone legal. I assume from the way some of you are using cars that you must have found a way around this? I would be interested to know as I fancy a nice 4x4 for the winter but not wanting to add an owner

  8. I agree. We need to establish that they are genuine traders. Moror trade insurance? Subscription confirmation from Glass's/CAP/HPI? Photocopy of trade plate confirmation? Account number with BCA or other recognised auction group? The majority of traders on this forum seem a sensible group and if we are offering vehicles for sale on here we want as much chance as possible of selling them or it will not work. Insisting on VAT registration status will limit the market and exclude traders who have recently started out and not hit the vat threshold and those that sell a couple of cars a month at a couple of grand a piece. Its another avenue for us to buy and sell so it sounds like a good idea to me.

  10. I agree to a certain extent but its unfair to tar all with the same brush. There are many large vat registered traders who dont do a lot of things properly and give us a bad name, so I think it is important to look at every case individually. There are large and small businesses in every sector and thats what makes the world go round. Good talking point though.
  11. Just because he is a part time trader selling say a car a month at £5000 - £8000 a go doesnt make him a chancer! As long as he is paying his taxes, has the correct insurance in place and offers a good service and warranty I cannot see what the issue is. It is no different in any industry. You wouldnt call someone with a high street shop turning over £1500 a week selling bread or cakes or sweets etc a chancer. They are just a small, local business. The vat threshold is set at £82000 for any business and thats the rules. You choose to sell more than that and SK motors chooses to sell less. You both have the choice. I completely agree that the guy with a different car parked on a street corner every week pocketing the cash, offering no service or warranty and paying no taxes is no good to any of us, but the 2 are quite different.
  12. Just stick it on an eBay auction. I disagree that nobody will buy without seeing it first. I frequeuntly sell cars on eBay auction and the buyer will transfer £20K or similar by bank transfer and collect the car in a few days or so. Good feedback helps though. Also, many cars on ebay auction will sell prior to auction end because the buyer is worried of losing out and goes for the Buy it Now. On eBay auction it costs £30-£50 to sell a car. Cheap at half the price. Good luck. Post your listing number on here and it may get bids from the trade. I sell many of mine like that.

  16. I wondered if anyone on here has taxed a vehicle since the new rules came in last October without registering the vehicle in their name? I always used to use whatever vehicle I had in stock that was taxed to drive around in myself until it sold. Now under the new rules the only way I can drive a car is with my trade plates only on company business and not for personal use. In theory I suppose I could tax a vehicle online, pay monthly by direct debit and cancel the DD once I sell it and the new owner taxes it again. If that isnt possible, I guess I am going to have to consider buying a car for personal use which I havn't done for 15 years. Any thoughts?

  19. Hi everyone. I am looking for some advice please. I don't very often take part exchanges and when I do they rarely involve removing a customers private registration plate. The last one I did was when the DVLA local offices still existed and I just told them what I wanted and they did it. So, I have sold a vehicle that is being collected on Tuesday. I am also taking the customers part exchange vehicle. The customer wants the priavte plate off his old car putting onto his new car. A simple procedure for someone with both V5's in their name but what is the easiest way of me sorting this out for him? I am assuming I will have to send both V5's off on the customers behalf and then once the customer has both V5's returned with correct registrations allocated, he can send me the V5 for the p/x? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
  20. I have used 'Service' through the broker 'Quote Me Today' for the last 3 years. The cheapest by far although I have never made a claim so cannot comment any further than price.
  21. I have been using these for 2 years. They fit in about a minute a piece and have never fallen off.   22. This will be really interesting to see if you can tax it again for the customer when you sell it. There are a couple of cars I have that I would be happy to pay the monthly direct debit for until sold so that they can be driven without my trade plates. It was always possible to re-tax a car with the same green slip more than once. The post office used to stamp the green slip to say it had already been taxed but it was more than possible to scan the same code more than once. I guess it will be the same with this system.   23. Thanks Sensei. I suppose most of that is as expected. Its funny that if a question is not on her list there is simply not an answer for it! Also, she said that if a car is showing as 'in trade' and is being driven without trade plates, but is showing as taxed, then a fine will be issued. I cannot see how this will flag a fine or even how any law in being breached. I have several cars that are 'in trade' and had tax prior to 1st October and are still showing as taxed on the Vehicle Check website. I can't see what is wrong with driving these cars still for personal use until they are either sold or the tax expires. I have not had a car registered in my name for years as I always simply use whatever cars I have available that are taxed for my own personal use. Its a crazy crazy world. I will update if I come across any more information and would like to know what other traders are doing and if anyone has taxed a car yet without registering it. Many thanks.
