What does 2014 have in store for the car industry?
dan sellen replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
I predict.............Vauxhall to out sell FORD! I am still waiting For the facts on this one. Might be a while. -
does anyone actually have a bottle of 'something' in their bottom draw?? wear a sheepskin coat? smoke cigars? these soaps on tv don't do us lot any favours.

Ok it was a little while ago, I'll blame the free booze, but at the car dealer awards evening I was approached and the conversation was that he saw 'the dealership' documentary and went on to say that he was in charge of several main dealers and the thing he took from the programe was that we try to test drive everyone, so he went on to say he then got all his managers and sales team together to stress the fact people really need to drive 'our cars' to which I was shocked, but smiled and said thanks. Surely this the first thought of any salesman or manager? The reason I remembered this was because today I sold a ford kuga to a customer who had gone to a ford main dealer to buy a kuga but the salesman wouldn't test drive them but did drive the customer themselves in the car! Why would you do that?

How do we tackle road side traders?
dan sellen replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
The customer always wants the 'cheapest', cheapest isn't always cheapest. A guy near us sells CAT C's etc and people compare prices with us, as much as we explain the quality of our product and service I'm supprised at how many people still say I can save by buying the other car'. They then probably go on to complain as the 'sold as seen car that was in an accident 6 months ago doesn't drive properly and they want their money back, hence cheapest isn't always cheapest. Also ive experienced customers say they don't want a warranty as they have a 'mate' in the trade, just an excuse to say they don't need a warranty, the best bit is they might come back a year or so later with a problem and they have the cheek to say they wasn't offered a warranty!! Rant over! Problem is cowboy traders. -
The true classics are leading the way, Southend sea front wouldn't have been the same without them.

The engine light is so common and when the handbook is referred to usually says DO NOT DRIVE which would sound quite scary to someone who doesn't understand. Customers lie about their part exes all the time thinking we won't check them, happy to sell us their 'scrappers' for retail money!

Where do you spend your advertising cash?
dan sellen replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
if the price is right people will come, I'm suprised how many people ask if we can deliver a car and at what cost. As far as scotland, we never do and they always turn up. -
Are sports car boots too small in today's world?
dan sellen replied to RacingPuma's topic in General Dealer Chat
If they made the boots bigger we wouldn't see the idiots coming back from Ikea with the roof down and a coffee table hanging out if it!!- 4 replies

Surely there's going to be someone stopping the stranglehold auto trader have over the car dealers?

We probably only have ourselves to blame, we all want work done for 'cheaper' and as quick as possible. Cheapest isn't always cheapest!
